Almost everything today is digital. Clients want to own the images now and take the card directly from my camera, have their graphic arts department download the card and reformat it before sending it back empty. Back in the day shooting film photographers always owned the images unless agreed to with the clients before hand.

Hopefully, the photographers are compensated more to not own the images.

  2. That is happening here too.  Some stations have been doing it for a number of years.  It started here with the gas stations associated with the large supermarkets.

I live in area where for at least 20 years the five local unaffiliated stations would charge 20-30 cents more than stations just 10 mile miles away in any direction.  They were relying on the convenience factor of people preferring to buy fuel near home, but I think there was some tacit collusion going on.  That went on for years until a corporate Murphy station replaced one of those stations.  Now the fuel prices are competitive.

  3. I have had a similar issue with my SW10-II.  I never happens with music content, only with movies.  In my case, I get one sharp pop with an extreme LFE signal. These are musical subs IMO, but probably never intended as a sub for LFE in movies.

@Steve Phillips told me years ago I could solve the problem by replacing the driver with the woofer driver from the KLF-20 (K-1036-E I believe).  I never did and now the woofer drivers seem hard to find.  My research led me to the following link as a suitable replacement, but I have not tried one - https://www.midwestspeakerrepair.com/shop/home-audio/woofers/klipsch-1/mw-audio-mw-5010-10-inch-woofer/

  4. I suggest placing a notice on the deceased members' profile page.  Something like this below (wordsmithing suggestions welcome):

That sounds wonderful. I visit one of my brothers at his lake house in Tennessee, Dale Hallow Lake. I like the idea of having absolutely no cell service, are all lakes like that? 😄

We do have cell service, and most lakes around here do.  That has become almost a necessity these days, but at least we can get away from a computer screen and cable news for a while.

I guess the world is coming to everyone at home on the computer!

I am ready for Spring, and I plan to spend as much time as possible on my boat.  Although we have WIFI at the marina, I do not take a computer to the marina, and there is no cable TV.  It is just like it was 25 years ago, so it is kind of a respite from the modern world.

    Great news @Seadog

Yes it is.  My wife gets the credit because she has kept us on TXU instead of switching to one of the "cut-rate" providers linked to the wholesale price of natural gas.

I haven't seen an electric bill yet, but I received this somewhat reassuring email notice from my electricity provider:

As Texas recovers from the recent winter weather emergency, here’s how you can count on us.

    Insulating your Rate
You may have heard about sky-high variable rates in the news, but rest assured that as a TXU Energy customer, you won’t see any near-term impact to your rate due to this winter weather event. Whether you’re on a fixed or variable pricing plan, our customers are always insulated from extreme variable wholesale power price swings like the recent ones.

I think they're mad at me for telling them to notify my personal shopper to stop putting dented cans in my order.

From howstuffworks.com:  "Botulism, caused by the bacteria clostridium botulinum, occurs when a dent or damage to a can creates even a pinhole-size opening."

Stick to your guns on the no dented cans policy.

    How is your pool piping?

Boil ban lifted here.  We're pretty much back to normal with no future freeze in sight.

Good to hear your water is safe to drink.

To my astonishment, my pool equipment survived.  My neighbors on both sides were not so fortunate (photos below).

When the power went off and the temp was 2F,  I placed a Mr. Heater propane camping heater under the tarp covering my equipment, and then placed a 60 lb steel plate in front of the heater to absorb an reradiate the heat.  When the plate was hot, I reduced the heater to just running the pilot flame.  I really didn't think that would be enough considering the duration of the low temp, but I got lucky.

    Neighbor's equipment:

  11. "Perseverance will search for signs of ancient life".  I hope it doesn't overlook any present signs of life.

It is quite the engineering achievement.  It will be interesting to see how long it takes to retrieve the core samples Perseverance will collect.  Maybe not even in our lifetime?

If water is under enough pressure, it won't freeze, or if it's flowing.

@CECAA850  @Seadoghow often does a storm like this hit Texas? I don't recall one this bad in your area.

The last time it was this cold was December 1989.  My wife and I had just moved into our first house.  The pipes survived, but I lost my entire lawn of St. Augustine grass, which is not cold tolerant.  The big difference this time is the number of really cold days was longer, and in 1989 I do not recall the massive power and water outages.

the marinas down here have hundreds of big  boats --- but they're out of the water ----

I just received an automated call from the marina that some boats are now sinking due to freeze damage to through-hull seacock valves.  I'm heading there now. My boat should be okay, but I need to be sure, and I may be able to help others.
