  1. 11,000 3DMarks. No joke indeed. Congradulations on the purchase. What cooling do you use for your CPU?? BTW Ear, can you check your PM pretty pretty please!
  2. Don't be affraid to use your search engines...
  3. The biggest problem in terms of the sound card is I want to be able to hook up my XBOX and other future consoles to my Ultras, preferably with my PC not having to be running or better yet, not present if I desire. I think the higher end Audigys let you use an external device w/o the soundcard but even on ebay they are around $145. The Catalina has optical inputs but I believe they won't decode and are just for recording. Thus the appeal of a decoder. Plus BF Vietnam is calling my name (any my wallet's) at the moment. As far as a Klipsch decoder if I could get a good deal on a DD 5.1 that would be great, but it sounds like the newer deocoder will take to long to come out. And Amy, I appreciate the speculation on the price. Info is good.
  4. True, but Creative's solution is $150. That's insane. I could but an inexpensive reciever for that much.
  5. 007, a word of caution. Brandnamez doesn't seem to be staffed. I ordered a minisystem off them and recieved the worst customer service I have ever seen in my life. They don't update their page. It has been the same for a year and a half. They don't answer or return phone calls. And they did not respond to several emails and only finally responded when I told American Express to void their charges. A week later they offered to sell me the damn thing. (Yes they emailed me and said they were finally ready and willing to *gasp* sell a product.) I decided I should get it as I couldn't find another retailer who had it in stock. But surprise, that email must have been a hoax as they never replied to my other emails when they charged me $60 over the limit for overnight shipping which I both did not ask for and did not recieve. Once again they did not respond untill I threatened to revoke my payment. Alot of online store raters spell out similar stories about Brandnamez. They have good prices, but at a cost... If you order from them I certaintly hope you have better luck.
  6. Ahh! I dunno if I should get BF Vietnam, a new soundcard, or break bad and get a decoder. Right now the only option is a Creative one and it's expensive. I guess I will get BFV and wait and see what Klipsch rolls out. Amy, just answer us this. Will it be worth the wait or would it probably be too long? If they are in R&D I don't think I can wait that long! Sounds like they are from the tone of the post. But I can't put words in anyone's mouths.
  7. So while we are on acceleration. What is the fastest you have ever accelerated, period? (If anyone is a Navy pilot here I think they just took the cake.) For me it was 0-80mph in 1.8 seconds.
  8. The EAR has good taste. I am a fan of the STi's as well. But alas I have a Jetta with the 8 valve 2 liter engine. Ah well. BTW my Dad was looking at cars a while back. We had been looking mostly at 300M's, Nissans, Audis. It never occured to us to look at BMW's but at the end of our car browsing day I said we might was well stop at the BMW dealer, right? After a very interesting little U-turn we were there. The next day my dad bought his BMW. He loves the way it drives, and I must say for the few times I have driven it, it certaintly feels nice. It was pretty funny all and all.
  9. Good advice gtDark. The two inherent problems with positioning the sub are it has alot of wires as it houses the amp, and it has a very restricted distance from the soundcard because of the inputs.
  10. Some of you guys are being plenty harsh on Erukian, and for no damn good reason. His question here is valid. This is the HOME AUDIO section. Last time I checked the Ultras were meant for home use. And he is asking about the Subwoofer. The concepts behind the questions he is asking do very well belong here and the conversation it spurs could be useful to many members of this forum. Oh and Erukian, don't mind 5 liter here, he seems to have an abrasive attitude. And ditto what Innova said.
  11. Boy oh boy that one went right over your head.
  12. Behind blue eyes has some pleasant bass for a laid back rock song. I like Kid Rock's remix except for the part when that weird electronic voice comes on. Nit picking? Yes.
  13. Some techno song huh? I imagine the song "Zion" from the Matrix (Rave ina' Cave!! ) would demonstrate the power of a Sunfire. Especially the very beggining. For classical around here the 1812 Overture seems to be the favorite choice. As for movies, the ice crystal scene in Titan A.E. has been recomended many many times. Try those out if you ever go back. I think I speak for the EAR here when I say if that doesn't floor you, something is very very wrong.
  14. Thanks to om13934 I now have located my driver and I also found a suitable magnet. And Mustang, I'm sorry, did I say something funny here? Because I am sure that you havn't.
  15. I must admit it is a work in progress, but so far I have secured the resources for the driver, chassis, magnets, as well as my power supply and amp. Anyway, here are the pics! Here's the woofer:( Thanks to om13934 for helping me locate one! Oh and sorry SETI fans...) Here's the sub's chassis: Here's the magnet I am using (pulled off a Particle Accelerator) Here's my power supply for the amp: Here are my capacitors for the amp and some cabling I have strewn about (when it's finished I'll make it a bit neater) So that about does it. When it's finally done I'll be sure to let you all know. AH, nah, I think you'll know when I first fire up the depth charge scene on U571.
