They have many years of experience working on all brands of amplifiers and use quality Illinois Capacitors in their rebuilds. I think that that is the type of quality you are looking for. Both Craig and Ryan use a combination of parts including cheap Russian military surplus caps. http://www.vacuumtube.com/ Rick ---------------- Zapper seems like you guys are trying to zap me out of this forum, and Ill tell you what, NO WAY, I belong here cause I have owned and loved Klipsch speakers for over 20 years.... I happen to just be ignorant in the ways of tube amps... But I am not ignorant to your BS I checked out the web you referred me to, and it looks rediculous to me...I feel stupid enough already in asking for help and guidance. Thanks for nothing but you will not chase me away

He is going to rip out every single original cap and electrolytic, replace them with great stuff, and sew it back up. He also will be sending me every original part with the exact location noted if a future owner wants to change back again. I won't. When I come across an Eico HF81, I will be sending it to Ryan for ministrations. If you are really concerned about money, send them all to Tom Tutay or AudioClassics, and then you will learn what "costs more money" really means. Both Craig and Ryan are in the bush leagues as far as charging people money. THE BEST THING TO DO IS E-MAIL AND CALL BOTH OF THEM. We recommend both.... ---------------- Thanks you
  3. Dean, some pretty strong words there. Please don't take my questions the wrong way. All I want to do is get the best sounding amps.

Otherwise, its value will decrease. ---------------- I do own quite a bit of collectable gear and I really apprecite you feedback, Guy. If it is not appropriate to tell me who you reccomend on this thread would you please either message or email me with this info.
  5. If you prefer certain parts, either will accede to your wishes. Qoutes are problematic with fourty year old amps, as you should know. They both will do exactly as you wish. Ryan has a three person shop, Craig is solo. On the Scott site, these two are viewed as the two competent experts by the majority of owners. You will not have trouble with either. Don't ask for the forum members to give a blanket approval for one or the other - that is your personal decision with your money. ---------------- Dave, I have never used a tube amp before, but I desire to with my khorns. I do not just have Scott amps, but also, 3 other brands. I do not know what is best to do, have them kept original, or fully modified. This is the reason for my post, to learn and than make a more educated decision. The last thing I want to do is to start a flame war of any kind.
  6. I am not trying to start a flame war here, and I apologize if in the past I may have appeared to be a troll, but I most assuradly am not. I am really looking for help here, maybe I phrased the topic poorly and for that I apologize. I truely would like to know who is the right person to do business with.
  7. Thanksfor the offer mike, but I really want to have them rebuilt properly, then choose which I would like to keep for myself. I am real happy with what I paid for these, I found all at a moving sale, from a widower whose husband was a collector. I will give the models after deciding who to go with.
  8. In reading thru the threads recently, it appears that NOSValves charges more $$$$ than Ryan. I have just purchased 3 vintage amps, along with 2 sets of mono-blocks(various manufactures) and am looking for opinions as to who is the best value for the money, and who can give accurate estimates with not to exceed a certain quote. I think that if the forum members really come clean reguarding there experiences we will learn quite a bit. I do not want to start a war here, but this is needed for me to decide who to send my amps too. Who has more experience Who has worked on a larger variety of amps Do both use the same quality of parts Do both stand behind there services and quotes Thanks to all the forum members in advance for your response. If I were in the market, I'd drive to get them for $550 or even $600". Well, there *is* a person interested in the speakers currently. As to the other guy who was talking about Keith, he made a decision based on the fact (I think) that he was really looking for something that could be restored to very close to mint condition and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't believe for a minute that he was playing games. He was quick with his replies and didn't attempt to string me along - he made a pretty quick decision after doing some research, plus, there's a pair in his locality that he might be able to buy without having to drive 4 hours. I'll have to say though that, after oiling them, they look really nice, Keith! As I said, right now, I have someone who's considering buying the speakers for $550. I'm not trying to start any bidding wars, but obviously, a $600 offer will be accepted (if he wants to go $600 right now, then *he* will have right of first refusal). I'm pretty sure that I could get more on eBay, but I'd certainly prefer to sell them to someone around here. That's one of the reasons that I wanted to limit the selling price to $600, I didn't want to start bidding wars here. I'd rather that they go to a Klipsch freak that will give them a good home. Oh yeah, I'm not desperate to sell them because I really *do* love them. But space is space. It *would* be nice though if I could sell them before the end of the month because I have property taxes due and I could use the money for that. ---------------- Kieth will only buy them if he can STEAL them for 3-400 I call that a waste of time
