  2. What is a real good price for a RSW15. The soundtrack by my house is closing. If I can get it for a killer price I will pick one up. I will put it on my credit card so it has to be a good price or I will wait till I have the money. Its down to $1300.00 now. I will wait for a week or two and see if it will go down more. What did you guys pay for yours? This should be good with my 4 Cornwalls and 2 Heresy's. They also have a Infinity Pralude MTS sub at 68% off. Went from 2400.00 to about 750.00. whould this be better? Thanks for any input.
  3. What is the max lenght you can run a optical cable? I need to run a 20-25 ft. optical to hook up my computer to my ht system. I will also be hooking up the hd video to the 50" lcd. The video is not a problem as you can run up to 200 ft. after that their is to much signal loss. I'm looking to play video games on the big screen. Thanks

    Voom

My Voom was installed on Monday. The people at Voom were very helpful. They went out of their way to help me It was nice. The installer was very helpful and did a very clean install. I was at work when he did the install but I did talk with him 3 times by phone. He took 6 hours to install the two rooms and only $1.00 install. All the local HD channels are good. The 37 HD channels are great. I have been finding A lot on in HD. The menu is not as good as Adelphia's but may be better than Dish. I'm very happy with Voom and the install it was right the first time. It took 20+ times to get a good picture out of Adelphia. Thanks for every ones help.

    Voom

I did it, I signed up for Voom. It will be installed on monday morning. It will cost me $10 more than I would be paying Adelphia's new cost. With 37 HD channels it sould be good. I did go look at Voom at Sears. Can we all say dumb sales people. I called a local sat company to find out about what I needed to know. In March Voom will be using 16 transpoders on AMC6 that is a little higher in the sky for use in the west. The press release stated that will be good for 30 HD and 250 SD channels more for Voom. It would be nice to have a DVR but all HD DVR's were delayed 1yr. and only started 2 or 3 months ago. So we will see if and when it happens with Voom. Thanks for all the help. I will let you know what I think when its instaled.

    Voom

Thanks for the input. I will be going to Sears tomorrow. They have Voom hooked up. I didn't want to on a weekend, right be for the hoidays. Went to Listenup on Friday to see what the guys I know there had to say. One of the installers has it and loves it. Boy, it looks like no one on the forum has Voom. Voom put up a new sat. in Oct. and have been adding more channels in SD. That is why I didn't look at them hard in Feb. They just added SciFi and Food Net. They are up to 120 channels. Now if they will only add BBC America, DIY, Western Starz, and HD Net. They have HD Net in Florida so the rest may get it soon, I hope. I will let you know what i think of Voom when I go and look at it.

    Voom

It's not the price, It's the way they did it. Adelpiha just turned off 5 HD channels and said if you want them back pay $5.00 more. What happened to sending me a letter telling me that their is a rate change. So that is way I'm looking at Voom. At $100 a month and going to DSL my cost would be the same with the cost increase or $10.00 more with Broad band. With 35+ HD channels sounds good but don't want to somthing that has problems. I don't know anyone with Voom. Sears has it set up and I will go check it out this weekend if I have time. I don't want to singup for 6 months if it is down all the time. I do know they all go down from time to time. I tried to write this last night but my cable and board band went down. So I'm hoping somone on the board has Voom and can tell me what they think. Thanks folks.

    Voom

Adelphia just raised my HD service price. So I'm looking at Voom and want to see if any of you have it and want to see what you think of Voom. It looks like they have more channels than the last time I checked out Voom. I was happy with Adelphia till this last price increase of $5.00 was the last straw. Yes $5.00 is not a lot of money, but I,m spending $137.50 a month with board bad now. I've had HD since Feb. and now they want more for the same service. So I may keep board band and go with Voom but my drop to DSL if the wife can run it for work at home. It was also a 6mo. fight just to get a good picture from Adelphia, I was told if I'm getting a picture it's good. What B.S. I better stop ventting now. Thanks for any input
  9. Pop, I was using an Academy with my 1984 Cornwalls, the sound was ok, but just ok. I sold it and bought a pair of vert. Cornwalls, and the sound is wonderful. My 50" Sony LCD sits on it. I'm also using a pair of Heresys for a 6.1. I don't have room for 6 Cornwalls. The sound I have now is great. Well worth selling the Academy to buy vert Cornwalls. The bass from 4 Cornwalls is great. Wish I could run 6 cornwalls just for the bass. Look at some mods for those Corns like caulking the horns. I bought my Corns new in 84 and would not think of selling them. Have fun.
  10. When I was running a 5.1 system it was 2 Corns on the front with a Academy center and Heresy's in the back. It sounded ok but the Academy would jump out at you at times. So I sold of the Academy and bought a pair of vert. Corns one for the center and one for the center rear. My 50" Sony lcd sits over the center Corn. The sound no longer sounded ok but came alive. The sound in the front didn't jump out at you. The sound is just great. Going to 6.1 is also worth the up grade. So you would be better buying 2 sets of Heresy's for a 6.1, or if you have the room up grade to a set of Cornwall's or LaScala's. I do love my Corns I have owned them for 20 years, I bought them new. You could also change over to one of Klipsch new lines and put the Heresy's on ebay. But for my money I would run 6 Heresy's or 2 Cornwall's and 4 Heresy's. Just my 2 cents.
  11. You have composite horns, I do in my 84 Cornwalls but metal horns in my 73's. I put dynamat on my composite horns but I also replaced the wire inside at the same time. What I found was the mids was smoother but was it the wire or the dynamat? Does it matter I would do both. The composite may not ring like the metal horns but you would cut down the vibrations in the composite horns. But it can't hurt and for the cost way not try it and see. When I rewired my 84's I only replaced the wire from the crossover to the speakers and the back panel. But on the 73's I also rewired the crossovers since the wire looked a little on the old side and the 84's I bought new and is near mint but I may rewire the crossover in the 84 Cornwalls. If you do your composite horns just do that and tell us what you think.
  12. It's worth going to 6.1 over 5.1. Myself I don't have room for to 2 Cornwalls in the back but if I did I would jump to 7.1 in a minute. And on the Krell I can see your point but if you sell your preamp you may be half way to a new krell. But that may open a whole new can of worms. I'm now looking to take down a wall to make room for Cornwalls on the sides in place of the Heresys I have now. And to think I was happy when I was running 5.1. So one upgrade can snowball out of control with other upgrades, but it sure is fun. Don't get me wrong it sounds good now but wouldn't 7 Cornwalls sound better, see what I mean.
  13. Look on ebay their are two K77s for sale.
  14. Has anyone have or heared the Earthquake Supernova MKIV 15. I'm also looking at the HSU subwoofer. Can pick up the Earthquake on ebay for about 1500 and the Hsu is on sale from the factory for 699 it is a deal but is in a differnt class from the Earthquake. Also looking at the klipsch 15 that I can hear at the store but can't hear the others. I'm running 84 Cornwalls on the mains 73 vert Cornwalls front center and back center with 85 Heresys on the sides. I'm looking for a sub for both music and movies.
  15. sounds like your defalt setting for the tv mode is se to a hall effect. When it see's DD 5.1 it goes to that and when it does not see it it goes to the defalt setting. I like to use 7.1 stereo for my defalt but Prologic II if you like it would be ok for the defalt. Each input has it's own defalt.
  16. Thanks Michael thats the type of imfo that I look for. I have some room treatments now but always looking to improve my room. When I get some time and more ink for the printer I just may do that.
  17. Thanks mopardave I will pick some up on my way to work today. I'm hoping to have the center channel done this weekend. Hay Dave what part of the counrty do you live in? Thanks for the input
  18. My 72 and 84 Cornwalls both have padding. On the 72s I think it was in a shed and some of the padding is bad. So I'm going to replace it. But thats part of the rebuild, you fix whats wrong, The speakers are starting to look good. Sould have some pictures soon.
  19. I think it would be cotton? Polyfill is clear to audio I think? I was just at the speaker shop in town and he said to just use pink corning fiberglass and to stuff it. He said the insulation slows down the bass and makes it think it's in a bigger cabinet. Has anyone used fiberglass and what do you think? Or would it pump fiberglass out the port. The quilt pads looks like that maybe the way to go but I'm looking for the best sound. Thanks for the input.
  20. DOes anyone have some of the Cornwall padding that they don't need. Some of mine are bad. Or is their something I can use in it's place.
  21. Good2bhome thanks for your input. I thought you could use the ALK up till 84 or am I missing something. What were you thinking of on the way of mods. What I'm going to do is replace he speaker cable and maybe binding post that is if I can find some that don't cost a arm and a leg. I'm also going to Dynamat the horns. I did the wire and Dynamat to my 84 Cornwall years ago and it sounded great. I was also lookin at Roger Floth cabinet mods of tuning the lows but I need to look at the old theads to see if anyone has done the upgrades and to see if they liked them. The braces look like they can only help but I may only use a brace on the back like the front and not use the big sheet of wood. I'm not sure on the retuning of the cabint though. Would upgrading the caps on the B crossover help or are their other mods I sould do to the crossover short of the ALK. Would the cap upgrade help my 84s also.
  22. What about using the ALK crossover for the 72 center and the 84 mains. I was looking at them for the mains sometime ago and they look like a good upgrade. Or do you need to mod the ALK for the 72? It does not sound like you need to.
  23. What is the difference between a B and B3 cross over in sound and sould I up grade to a B3 to match my 84 Cornwalls. The 72 also has one blown tweeter it's a round can K77 is this a Alnico. My question here is their a sound difference between that tweeter and a later square K77. Also they have a K33E in one and a K33P. Sould I upgrade the K33P to a K33E. And what about the squawker between the 72 and 84. I'm just looking for the best sound for my setup. Some of the older setup may be better and I may back date the 84s for the better sound. Thanks for any input.
  24. Thanks Synthfreek for the tip. I pick them up on sat. drove from Colorado Springs CO to pick them up. Just told the wife lets go and break in her new Dodge Dakota RT. The Cornwalls are 72 verts the finish code C-MR-15 Mahogany I think. They need to be refinished. So after I eat I will be starting to take them apart and sanding them down and see how they look. May oil them if they turn out good or may paint one black for the center. The best way would be to veneer Birch to match my 84 oiled Birch Cornwalls. But they are big for the first veneer job. It will also be modded some when its apart like new speaker wire and Dynamat the horns. Can't wait to hear the new system 84 Cornwall mains 72 Cornwall front and back with 85 Heresy sides for 6.1. May sell one vert Cornwall later and buy two more Cornwalls for a 7.1 system. But I need to work on a sub or new power amp for now.
  25. If you don't want to run cable but you should. Look at your splitters they could be the problem. It would be a easy fix for now.And make sure all your f conectors are good and tight. you may see a better picture.
