  1. OB, It seems to have the potential for a good get together .What would make it nice is to get Duke to bring his jolida cd player and anything else he would care to bring ,like his quick silver tube amp hint hint [].Maybe he could rent a tractor trailer and haul some of his speakers. Of course you know how fast the time went by the last time we got together.
  2. Since Doug did not answer I will ,the guy in the picture is Neil's guitar technician ,I forgot his name .If you want to know it let me know ,he is in the extra footage on the "Heart Of Gold " dvd.
  3. Speakerfritz <Duke > Jay, It would ge great meeting all of you , I work every other weekend , not sure yet which ones going into the new year . Will find out before I leave for Florida ,and post it[will be getting to meet some Florida Forum members]. I was wondering if the later part of Jan would be better or doesn't it matter. Speakerfritz what would you like to bring?
  4. Jay, Speakerfritz, Both you guys are more than welcome, my thoughts were to make the VRD's , Craigs blueberry preamp , the 75 k-horns with Deans networks -'A" auricapped , and ALK trachorns available to those who are curious as to their sound. I know it is not easy to get to hear different pieces or equipment. I believe that the above pieces hold the interest of many who frequent this forum . Plus the benefit of meeting some great forum members. I understand if you choose not to come ,it is a considerible distance, but extend the invitation if it is a possible and a desirous oppurtunity for either of you
  5. Hey OB, Someone has to lure them out of there winter hibernation mode.
  6. Where are all the New Yorkers? gone to hibernate in the winter months. This is a perfect oppurtunity to kill some time during the winter months ,and get to meet some great forum members, what you waiting for?
  7. Mike, Will not know until I get down there ,the time schedule we will be on .We have some other friends we have to visit ,but I will definitely keep it in mind .Probably contact you for your phone # before we leave. I had some LaScala s with BEC tweeters and crossovers before I bought the K-horns,when I first bought the k-horns I was second guessing myself as to why. I am glad I got them now ,because the trachorns I will be getting will be a much easier install on the k-horns , which is one of the reasons I bought them ,the other is the somewhat better bass . If I had to buy them new I would have stuck with the LaScalas. I also have the VRD's and will be swapping preamps with Craig to hear the blueberry. While Ithink it is great to hear each others systems ,I really like the chance to get to know the forum folks first hand. A couple years ago when we went to Cape Cod we hooked up with a women that my wife plays scrabble on line with. Her husband has a motorcycle and so do I , had a good time with them. So we will see as the time gets closer . I don't know your work schedule or anything . [amended] looks like those lascala's are getting more interesting ,Alks and 511b, maybe I will have to make a more intense effort to squeeze you in the schedule []
  8. Sounds good, check first post ,for my phone # . I will be gone from 12/20/06 - 12 /31/06 seeing son and family in Florida. What part of Florida? Lakeland
  9. Sounds good, check first post ,for my phone # . I will be gone from 12/20/06 - 12 /31/06 seeing son and family in Florida.
  10. Mr. Marantz, Would love to have you and "Neil" come . I just thought it would be nice for people to be able to listen to the VRD's and trachorns ,and Dean G auricap modded "A' net works. It would be nice to get a tube CD player in the mix also . I tried to lure a guy in with the pcats, but did not work out yet, don't even know if he got the e-mail.Listening to "Prairie Wind" right now, bought the DVD show also.Would ge great for the forum guys to meet each other face to face, have not heard from Whamo yet.
  11. Is that a hint of interest. I have plenty of source material in the "old black" category

Will be a good time to audition VRD's and juicy music blueberry on 1975 K-horns with Dean G "A" crossovers auricapped modified, and AL K trachorns,. I live in Utica NY. Mark Godlewski
  13. That BAT ought to sound nice for what they cost.
  14. OB, Some how I lost your phone# ,I just read a PM because I was looking for your phone# and Whamo wants to join us for a listening session some time . I have the VRD's and I am going to do a trade with Craig so I can get the juicy music blue berry at my home for a while. I also ordered a set of Al K trachorns . So give me a call or send me an e-mail or Pm , 315 797 -4053
  15. If you do a search put in Chimera labs , you will find ECC83 ,Amperex Germany ,Globe Orange Label ,Short plates, Top Getter Round Halo [ the hat thingy] > I take that back , they do not have them any more . But put in German Amperex [searh engine google] and you can find them there ,older listing. It was 6th listing down 12AX7-11-2003
  16. If you would like to read some reviews on both the Jolida JD100A and the Heart CD 6000SE . They also do a review that compares the two against each other . Go to www.tnt-audio.com/ . Check out there review section for Cd players quite a bit of info there. They also review the AH! Tjoeb , and allot of other CD players, just another source of info.
  17. In talking to Craig it doesn't seem that the larger tubes make much difference in sound. [you can call him to verify this] . He said to get the most change in sound it will happen with the smaller tubes 12AU7 and 12AX7 . I am running 12AU 7 buggle boys Amperex ,and 5751 GE black plates . Did not notice much difference if any ,over the stock tubes. It is like others have said really not much difference with tube swapping in the vrd.So go with price savings . You can also look at the JJ Tesla kt88 ,around $137 for a quad.
  18. You are a big LIAR, SS sounds great as long as I can adjust my hearing aid with its equalizer. When I get it dialed in just right my Bose speakers will blow the doors off your klipsch.
  19. I am suprised not any mention of the British invasion stuff .I can remember in my younger days playing 45's ,The Beatles, Herman Hermits "Henry The 8th" , Gerry and the Pacemasters "Ferry across the Mersey" ,Peter and Gordon "I Go To Pieces" , "Lady Godiva", The Hollies "Bus Stop" Then some of the early american groups Dave Clark 5 ,Garry Lewis and the Playboys, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Byrds ,etc.. . All before the more serious stuff on the LP's. I can remember one of the earliest trips to buy a 45 ,Petula Clarks "Down Town".
  20. With many people extolling the virtues of the Mullard 5ar4 . Why not try the groove tube 5ar4 , that Brent Jesse proclaims "It has the identical quality as the 1960's mullard" at a current production price. People have said that Brent Jesse is a reliable source for NOS tubes. The groove tube can be found for $21. Check out Brent Jesse web site for the above quote. www.audiotubes.com
  21. With Brent Jesse ,being such a reliable source why don't we hear of anyone using the "Groove Tube" 5ar4 tubes in their VRD's. He states on his web site that these are"Made by Groove tubes in the style of the late 60's Mullard 7 notch plates flat top version. IDENTICAL QUALITY to the older British tubes at a big savings. At last ,a NOS quality current production 5AR4 at an affordable price". So how about it ,any body try these yet ,I found them for $21 each . Seems like an excellant choice ,if what Brent Jesse says about the quality being "identical " to the 60's mullards, rings true.
  22. I suggest you go to www.audioasylum.com/. Click on the tubes section and do a search. You will find various opinions about them. The only real way is to try them in your system ,I can not believe they are that much better than some of the other brands , when you consider the cost. By the way what do you have in them now.
  23. OB, I know how to lure Duke ,bring the audio enhancing leaves. Make sure you seperate them ,maple , birch ,and oak. We will tell him that the oak leaves have been dried according to an ancient formula handed down thru the ages . The formula originated with the founding fathers of the "THWACK" tribe. Guaranteed to increase the THWACK factor 10 times over. That way we will be sure to entice him.
