  1. Would like to find the La Scala timeline with component changes, design changes/dates, etc. The Klipschcorner.com link does not work any longer. Help please?? thanks.
  2. Hi folks, would like to know what the best method would be for preserving the back panel serial number labels? Clear packing tape, urethane, etc, etc??? Pro's and Con's? Thanks.
  3. Can I find out what parts/components/ etc, etc, are available directly from Klipsch, or is it all distributed? Possibly even older/less than current parts? A catalog or simple list available? Thanks!!
  4. What is the material that is inside the cabinets that looks and feels like a layered paper, secured with string? What's the term used for it? Can it be purchased anywhere? Or should it be replaced? Mine is very, very fragile, and in one of the cabinets has been ravaged by mice....
  5. Hi, Wondering if you folks could recommend some good sites for me to post my desire to acquire a K-51-V mid driver for my CW I's...appreciate the help.
  6. Bought these a couple of weeks ago and posted pics. Veneer was trashed and I stripped almost all of it off, other than the top of one...Finally got some great weather this weekend, and was able to take them outside and do some sanding...wow, what a difference....took them all the way from 80 grit to 600....The neighbors were not too happy with all my noise, but....I need to get a Klipsch T-shirt..... So now, all I need to do is decide how to "finish" them....so I'll ask your advice....I don't mind the way they look now, and they are not meant to be showpieces anyway...can I just oil them (with what?), or should I stain and seal, or? I'm not a woodworker, but I now know how to use an orbital hand sander....!! woo Hoo! I will fill them in with wood filler, sand again, etc. Thanks, Jim
  7. Looking to replace one of the drivers that came with a recently acquired pair of Corwall I's. As you can see in the photo, the material surrounding the rear portion is cracked in a couple of places, although it still measures good on the multimeter. Bob Crites has suggested to me that the material "might" not have any functional value, and may be just for decorative or protective purpose. However, I'm not comfortable with the integrity of the driver, so I'm looking to replace it. The one that is cracked seems to have a slightly different material on it, and is smooth, rather than a "pebbly" surface.... I realize that they are few and far between, but if anyone knows a source, please let me know. Thanks very much. Jim
  8. I know this may be difficult, but I'm fishing for some relatively objective opinions here...Another subject in my Heritage education.... I realize that the "value" of any item is what the buyer will pay, and what the "general market" will support, but, having said that, I'm wondering....When is a Cornwall no longer a Cornwall? or La Scala, or Heresy, or whatever? Is "all original" that important anymore? Replacing or recapping the crossovers, replacing drivers and/or entire horns..Adding braces, adding damping material, etc, etc....Even though many of the "upgrades" that can be made may well be very close to the original specs, and "sound" very similar (each to his own...) at some point it seems that the speaker just becomes....a cabinet....maybe with consecutive serial numbers, but, what does that matter anymore after significant replacements? I know, the question could be asked, "Are you going to keep them for your own use, or are you planning on someday reselling?" Well, perhaps both, I'm not sure, but I suppose I would like to know how I might be affecting the resale and historical value by making adjustments. For example, just from a simple monetary perspective, I could send my woofers out to be re-coned and repaired for anywhere between $75 - $100 each. Then factor in shipping both ways for those heavy dudes, and we're at a minimum of about $200. Then, compare that with a couple of on line resources where you could purchase a new replacement pair, that are the equal if not better in performance, for between $225 and $300, including drivers, including shipping. OK, so I replace them with the new....are they still Cornwalls? And please, I'm only asking, certainly not professing to actually know or to say yea or nay....just a point of interest I guess, and wondering what much more knowledgeable folks on the forum have to say. Thanks for being patient with my rhetorical meanderings....
  9. Not sure what kind of interest for this I'll get here, if at all, but worth a shot. I have two pairs of fantastic tickets for Joe Bonamassa, April 23 at the Murat Theater in Indianapolis, 8pm (Wed night) One pair is third row, dead center. The other pair is first row, dead center. I am definitely going to the show with one of these pairs. The other pair I would like to trade (with some cash) for a decent to nice pair of Heresy's. (or something else????) I am in the South Bend, IN area, and am willing to arrange a road trip if someone in the general vicinity has an interest. Please PM me if interested, or post a question here. Thanks very much. Jim
  10. I'm sure folks have experience with upgrading all of the internal wiring of the Cornwall line. I feel like I'm playing with fire if it's not replaced after 32 years....What do folks recommend for brand, type, gauge, etc.?? Thanks.
  11. One lower left, one upper right on the front facing edge. The other interesting thing is the difference in the colors of the plywood. Could these be differing wood species on the sides or? (I doubt it, but, you never know what those crazy factory folks might have done....) I thinks it's rather striking, and I'll looking forward to sanding it down and taking a look.
  12. Hi all, Today I wanted to verify what I had heard yesterday when I picked up the very rough pair of Cornwalls, just to make sure I hadn't made some dumb connection mistake. However, I did verify that only the mid range driver is working on both. Checked all the wiring to and from the crossovers to each of the three drivers in each cabinet, everything looks good. So, my dreadfully uniformed deduction is that each crossover is bad (which is not a big surprise). However, don't have a multimeter (which I should invest in....), and I wouldn't know where to read, or what the values should be if they are faulty. Is this a proper supposition, and can someone tell me what I should be seeing at a specific terminal point when I do get a multimeter? (ordering one tonight from my friends at Amazon....) Thanks. I was planning on replacing the crossovers anyway, but this is another in a series of many learning experiences for me....
  13. Picked up a pair of very rough shape 1982 Cornwall's today from out in the middle of nowhere Indiana....200 miles, each way.....But, scored them for a song, so I think the drive was probably worth it overall. Cabinets look awful (CBR), some mice made a nest in one of them and trashed most of the paper liner, the crossovers don't look so great, one of the mid range horn drivers looks like there is a plastic piece on it, which is cracked in two places, etc, etc. I will post pictures when I recover tomorrow from the drive, but this will be a fun project for me this summer (in addition to yard work of course). No doubt I'll be asking lots of questions....thanks in advance.
  14. Hi all, I'm looking at these as an easy and (hopefully) effective way of tightening up my CW II cabs. Perhaps 4 of each of these along each surface, tying sides to back to top to bottom....(of course not using bolts and nuts, but you get the idea) Any thoughts yea or nay? This way (maybe) I can avoid measuring and cutting, gluing and screwing, etc, etc. Thanks.
  15. A friend of mine is considering purchasing a pair of late 80's Cornwall II's to add to his already existing system of early 80's Cornwall I's, maybe put them in an HT config (I don't know, but it's just him....). Are there any obvious or discernible issues with "mixing" these two models of the same speaker? Timing, frequency matching, etc? I have no idea, so that's why I'm here....
  16. Meaning, has anyone (or a group of anyones...) put together a list of all of the Heritage speaker models, with corresponding woods, components, etc, with their estimated value/resale value (understanding market fluctuations), as of the date of the estimate, with corresponding grades of "Mint, near mint...etc" or "A, A1, A2, B,...."due to scratches, missing cabinetry, stock components, etc, etc. Sort of like a Kelly Blue Book for the Heritage Line. And no, I'm not volunteering.... Just wondering. I mean, they do it for cars and golf balls for crying out loud..... Oh yea, and it has nothing to do whatsoever with "how it sounds"...
  17. OK, so it's not 2 channel, but I wanted to comment here on putting my 1988 CW II's into a 5.1 config to watch the movie "Gravity" on BRD. With two Def Tech Subs split, and KG 1.5's as surrounds, KV-3 Center, all I can say is Wow, wow, wow. Fantastic. The CW's just brought so much "force" to the sound effects, it was very, very, impressive.
  18. I'll ask this here first, then also ask for a link where I could do it myself next time......thanks. Advertised as Heresy II - H WO SRB 90023188, and H WO SRB 90023189 Also a Klipsch Subwoofer - KG SW Wal Oil 011298486 Thanks very much, Jim
  19. Good idea? Bad idea? How about spikes, or is sitting on the carpeted floor preferred?

  21. Hi folks, I am now the proud owner of a pair of 1988 Oiled Oak Cornwall II's. Consecutive serial #'s. Couldn't be happier. Purchased them from a great gentleman on this forum who was kind enough to meet me somewhere in between our respective locations. I will start with a few basic questions, and in the future ramp up to more technical details. I will tell you that I am very new to the Klipsch Heritage line, but not a complete moron.... Cabinet maintenance: What type of oil should I use on the cabinets? I like the current color, but would be happy with a touch darker as well. (Is Scott's Liquid Gold appropriate?) Grill: anything needed on the grills other than a soft brush to keep the dust off? (they are really in beautiful shape) BTW, do most folks listen with grills on or off? Does it matter? Anything needed as far as maintenance to the horns/drivers/etc? At some point I do plan on upgrading and replacing the crossovers and tweeter diaphragms, as well as the mid horn diaphragms. I read somewhere that Klipsch will sell an entire titanium tweeter that can be used in the CWII's....is this true, and if so, could someone provide the contact info. That's about it for now. I will thank you in advance for all of your helpful, experienced information. More to come. Photo attached.
  22. I have never listened to a set of any Klipsch Heritage speaker, and I would very much like to....I've got the bug now, and have been trying to get my hands on some Cornwall's, somehow, someway.....however, I would also like to hear any other set of Heritage as well. If anyone in the mid to northern Indiana, southern Michigan area would be so kind as to make some time, I'll bring you a very nice bottle of red wine....I live in the South Bend IN area, and can be relatively flexible with my schedule if need be. Let me know via PM. Thanks very much.
  23. Hello, I am desperately trying to find resources to box and ship a pair of Cornwalls. Very few places have the capability to package such a large and heavy unit. If anyone can suggest an idea, or a trusted resource, please let me know!! Thanks very much.
  24. I need to replace one of the drivers in a KV3 center, and upon first glance, it looked pretty easy, but there seems to be a type of metal frame around the driver mounted in the baffle, and it is very solidly in place....I have no idea how to get it out...any suggestions? Thanks. Jim
  25. Hi all, Recently refurbished my KG 5.5's with new crossovers and tweeters, and am building a listening/HT setup. Amp is an Emotiva XPA-5, Oppo BDP-103, and an as yet to be determined preamp/processor.... Parameters: 70% two channel, 30% TV sports, TV and movies. Music: classic rock, funk/soul, blues, jazz, Pavarotti... Would like suggestions for a sub to go well with the speakers, preferably under $1500. Thanks for your help.
