  1. You should be ok Sam_D, i just think my pc is too far from the tv for cheap wirring to carry through the signal and still keep the quality. How much distance is there between your pc and tv?
  2. Don't lough, i got 10yr old Hitachi 21". Yeah that's in canadian prices. I'm talkin about the cheapest jack wires available. Sound was good, but image was poor. (i had it plugged into my tv's inputs) Interface was as easy as it gets, just click on the tv icon in the H+ console and voila, off to the tv. I don't think the tv=out on the H+ is bad. I think it's pretty damn good. Just i didn't want to put that kind of money on high-end jacks.
  3. Bump, hehe Sam_D. I had my H+ hooked to my TV. It wasn't to impressive,(keeping in mind that i only had it hooked up with cheap $7.00 jacks that ran 25ft) The image quality was reduced a little, i lost the dark shadow tones, (everything was an even black). I wonder how much of a difference it would have made if i had bought expensive jacks.(video jack was 89.00 and audio was a little over 100.00) Although now i've moved my desk even further. My pc is about 40ft away from my tv. Is it to far now?
  4. quote: So I just borrowed a pair of Klipsch from the store (hehehe..we can do that!) and had the party. Ahahaha (lucky bstd.) My storie of how i got to getting these babies is this: Arround sept. '99 i got my first half decent pc (cel.300) then i told my buddy i wanted to play some games, and he just happened to have the Half-Life demo. Well HOLY S**T! I got so much into the game that i started to soop-up my pc. First was vid. card then came the 19" and when came time for sound i spent a lot of time reading reviews. I was planning on getting sb x-gamer but for speakers i was really close to getting Cambrige pf-2000 i think then at the last minute(night before i was goign to buy them) i stumbled accross a review of the Klipsch Promedia's. Right away my heart started to pound (i know the Klipsch name), i remember back in the early 80's my friend had a set of Klipsch Legend series (i think), he still has them. We used to smoke up the room somthing awfull and listen to bands like Venom, Slayer, Mettalica, Possessed, Kreator, Celtic Frost, Destruction, Motorhead and so on... Anyways (long story eh?), i've never regret having bought these babies, they're totally awsome for gaming. First was Half-Life then Daikatana, Soldier of Fortune, NOLF and now Deus Ex. TOMORROW GETTING CABLE, watchout Unreal Tournament fans Nice topic idea Aknar
  5. That's the place Swerv. I bought mine a year ago (wow a year has already gone by with my pro's. Ahh the memories:d) Anyhoo, i got mine at Si-com and they went under last august.(they owed Klipsch $32000) My buddy had a 50.00$ deposit on the pro's and lost it (he never got around to getting them). I was lucky, last february (2000) i paid mine up-front (445.00 with taxes i think) and it took six weeks to get them. I felt lucky
  6. Maybee their taking orders or getting ready for them. Lots of sites make you fill in the order and then they tell you they don't have it in stock yet but "will contact you as soon as they arrive" 429.00 is expensive for the v2-400's i paid 389.00 in ottawa and heard a comm.on the radio a few months back about a store that had them priced at 369.00.
  7. FlatLine, last year i remember the store where i bought my set had them on demo and the rear sats were hanging upside down (hooked in the ceiling pointing downwards) and even though the sub was on the table it still sounded pretty impressive. (they always had a dvd movie playing)
  8. WOW MAN !!!! ummm, I mean WOW HOFY! Thank you for that, i really enjoyed looking at the insides of my sub Pretty crazy stuff, although i'm happy with my "stock" promedia's. I'll leave them be, loud enough for me
  9. Holly smokes man, what a thread. Amythaon, i don't know how loud the hissing is at your end but let me tell you this. I got a tv tuner card (ati) when i'm not watching tv i can still hear whatever channel i last had it on. (sounds like a buzz but it's the tv). No big whoop i mute it. Before i put on dvd (i got h+ too) i make sure line in is muted, before i play a game i make sure line in is muted. On top of that, when volume level is loud and with no music on, i hear my cd-rom working (like a buzzing sound) I EVEN HEAR MY HARD DRIVE THROUGH THE SUB(kind'of like a huffing sound) But these sounds are not loud at all, very little but just enough to hear it. I don't think this is a deffect, i guess some people are a hell of a lot more picky than i am. I would never shipp them in for that. I just think the pro's jack's are real sensitive to any vibrations or maybee it's the s/c that pick's up the vibes. Seb, i got my h+ when i had a cel.300 now i got p3700. What would be the real advantage to poping out my Hulk Hogan card? I'm mainly still using it because someone once told me: If it works, DON'T F**K WITH IT! I'm really worried about having even the slightest of delay in frame rates happening with soft. decoding. My H+ works like a charm.
  10. I would just like to add. I rent an av. of 2 to 3 movies a week and own 50 dvd's so far. The only movie i wasn't able to watch on my H+ was the last 007 movie and the odd special feature section on certain movies (happened about 4 times so far) this has been a little over a year now. So i think this card is pretty good
  11. ??? I'm talking about the "Hollywood plus mpeg decoder card" from Sigma Designs. Maybee you don't need hardware decoding but it does have a "tv out" (and reviews rate it better than any vid.card tv outs) and for 80.00cnd or so it's plenty cheap. Also capable of ac3 (you need ext. amp for this i think)
  12. Check out his page http://www.wssh.net/~wattsup/audio/ Look for "Room Optimizer" and "Visual ears" (+ there seems to be quite a lot of other audio related shtuff there) Good or not?? I don't know. I just did a quick search and that's where i ended up. I quickly tried Visual Ears demo (didn't get to far), to bad you can't input room dimensions in the demo. (MAYBEE THERE'S A CRACK) not just VE but there must be some soft. out there along with an EEEVIIILLL twin crack brother. I didn't search it any further, NOT T'ILL I GET CAAABBBLE. Ordered it last week
  13. Hollywood+??? just a sugg. I know my dvd is a little slower, but i got a toshiba 8x and spinning or any other noise is totally non-existant. I was surprised myself at how quiet this thing is, which leads me to believe it is worth it to get a reputable brand dvd player. (actually mine wasn't to much. $165 cnd) Also i read somewhere about somebody complaining about his "slot load" dvd player scrathing his dvd's. (might even have been this board, i don't remember)
  14. My set gets a fair bit of abuse (games,dvd's,mp3's and MONDAY NIGHT RAW ) Last december, (24th on top of that)same thing happened to me quote: I just sat down to listen to my KICKIN promedias and the sub was off. All speakers were firing as normal, but nada from the sub. Although i did unplug and re-plug quickly i still got nothing. It took 2 weeks shipping to and getting back from the repair centre(the guy told me there was nothing wrong with the sub) to have them working again. Guess it had to reset?????
  15. System specs KaiserKT1??? Hardware, software vrs., Directx??? Be more specific
  16. Just get used to turning down your volume(prom.) before shutting down. (my set pops if i don't do that)
  17. quote: In the meantime, any tips on how to go about this or what exactly what to replace? Cambridge Soundworks el cheapo 2.1s I'd wait till you get the pro's to see if your audio is bad. Does it sound ok without any effects? Maybee your Cambridge spkrs. can't handle the load.
  18. The software/hardware provided with the Acoustic Edge doesn't provide DTS decoding. The powerDVD would, in "Seb's" opinion, be sufficient to use as a soft-DVD player. 1st of all, you need sound card (sounds like the EA is best for dvd's). 2nd you said you "must" have the pro's. If i were you then i'd get that, try a few of your favorite flicks and if you're still not happy then start checking out dts decoders. just my op.
  19. quote: Whenever I apply an EAX effect it ranges from a lot of static to distorted (badly - no effect, just garbled sound) audio. Hmmm, that sure don't sound good. Do you mean when you apply "concert hall, padded room, auditorium, etc.' settings? If so, that sounds like a s/c driver prob. more than a promedia prob. Especially if everything sounds ok if you don't add effects. Maybee directx? or creative file conflicts? I've NEVER installed a new component without having a SURPRISE when rebooting. ALWAYS SOMETHING SCREWED SOMETHING ELSE!!! You got to spend hours sometimes days to finally figure out the prob. or find the fix or patch. Just once i'd like to see a pc device just do it's job and not add all kinds of new revolutionary soft. that takes care of everything for you and and re-route file associations and so on. YOU KNOW ALL THOSE THINGS THAT MAKE YOUR FACE DROP AFTER RE-STARTING WINDOWS SO THE "CHANGES MAY TAKE EFFECT" HA Sorry, i'm rambling on and not beign much help but it just makes me SO MAD!!!!
  20. I'm not sure which one is which(purple or green is front and rear). Refer to both your manuals (prom. and sblive). Your x-gamer has front and rear channel outs (one next to the other) plug the jacks in accordingly.(if you don't have the manuals, i can check for you) In the creative surround mixer, set your pc speakers to "4 speakers" and in your windows audio settings(advanced i think) set your speakers to "quadraphonic". Hope this helps. note: The promedia jacks ar not colour co-ordinated with your x-gamer outputs.
  21. quote: my upstairs neighbor utilitzes a signal device (Broom of some sort) and pounds on the floor. I consider that decent enough Right on BSDPN LoAdEd I'm alone in a house and NEVER went past 90% pc volume and 80% pro volume. Never really experienced sub powering down except for one misterious "total sub failure" that fixed itself during shipping to repair centre. Maybee the courrier guy was a p/t speaker repair dude and took it upon himself to fix my sub AAWWSSSOOMMMMMMMME!!!
  22. Hmmm Richard. I don't know what you we're listening to with eax settings, but for gaming it is essential just like a3d and other 3d audio devices. Just my 2¢
  23. Yep! They're always on, although they use less power when pc is off. If you have new cp-1 there's a switch that makes them go on stb and just the Headphone and mp3 jacks work, color of light goes red. But they're always on also.
