Thanks for you help, I really appreciate it. After doing extenstive research I have decided on a SVS sub ... everyone seems to love them. I'm going with the PCI line not the plus - for cashflow reasons - maybe I'll get an iPod as well. Finally deciding between the 20-39i and 25-31i, I think I'm going with the 39i ... space is not an issue for me and hopefully I will be happy with the output ... although who knows I began this message thinking I was getting the 31i Pertpetually undecided.

    Karl why the 20 - 39i over the 25 - 31i??

yea, your receiver is much better than mine so you can run your speakers louder without distortion or risk damage.

I wish I could at that volume - but things would be distorted. I just don't know what to do about these subwoofers ... it seems like everyone on the forum thinks the 25-31 will give me more mid range bass - but ron from SVS says there's no difference. And then there was one person who said either get the 20-39PCI or 25-31+ even more complicated ..... I wish I could listen first.

So your 20-39 PCI sounds pretty good for music as well? What kind of main speakers are you running? what kind of music do you listen to?

Its a tough decision - Ron from SVS seems to like the 20-39 series better than 25-31 .... hopefully I can get by with with a 20-39PCi.
  9. Preface: When you start getting into the monster size that you're talking about 70" or larger you have to realize the picture will not be as good as my 30" XBR and that's just the way it is. But you'll have a huge *** TV and that can be cool. Its like going to a movie you don't get pissed during a movie because the picture quality isn't as good as the TV you have at home do you? (I do, but I'm a little crazy) That being said lets continue to your latest question... I'm assuming you mean projectors & screens not projection TVs. Yea, I've looked at them as well and considering that this is for an actual home theatre that might be a good choice. They look like the picture you see in a movie theatre which is fine is thats what you want. Just don't let someone tell you that the picture will be just as good as a tube..... It might be better than some junk projection TVs ... but thats not saying much. I've seen that 70" grand wega TV in person it is insane ... its just so big. Sorry getting back to projectors, I know there is a big variation in price from high to low as well as with the screen. When your doing something like the home theatre work you're suggesting and you have the cash you don't want to mess around - find a professional in your area and get the job done right the first time.
  10. I've looked and the Grand Wegas and a friend of mine has one - I think they are a nice alternative to regular projection televisions and not nearly as expensive as plasma. For some one who has to have a big screen they are great, but like projection TVs they don't look as good if your not at a safe distance, (i.e. make sure the room is big enough - ask your sony dealer for details). The one thing I advise you look into is the technology, what are the risks or problems such as bulbs burning out or issues with the display that you can run into with a plasma or LCD. It shouldn't matter though, the Grand Wega is Sony's flagship right now and they will take care of you. I'm partial to Sony Picture Tubes, but if it must be a big screen the Grand Wega is good, please .. please go look for yourself in person ... its a big TV and like picking speakers that sound good to your ear .... picking a TV is all about what looks good to your eye. Hope this helps .. Have Fun
  11. I may be a new to audio, what when it comes to TV's I've done my homework. I would agree with those that said a CRT (aka Picture Tube aka Direct View) is the best picture bar none. There is only one way to go and that is SONY XBR end of story. However, I noticed that you are looking at TV's significantly larger than 40" so the Grand Wega or Samsung DLP would be ok (I mean just ok). Personally I have the Sony 30" Wega XBR 16:9 and I got it with the stand for $1500 + TAX which is a great deal. Go to a store preferably a SONY store and check them out - they are absolutely beautiful. As people have mentioned they are heavy, but if you can afford a TV that nice pay for movers who are insured and bonded in case anything happens. -- KV-40XBR800 40-inch FD Trinitron® WEGA® XBR® Hi-Scan TV -- KV-34XBR910 34-inch 34" 16:9 XBR® FD Trinitron® WEGA® Television TV -- KV-30XBR910 30-inch 16:9 XBR® FD Trinitron® WEGA® Television TV http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=mN4Joypy1UIJ2WrNxwEDqGV_B6X2XOrkJx8=?CategoryName=tv_36%22to40%22TVs_XBR%2836%22to40%22%29&Dept=tv
  12. I don't know about the receivers you have (they might be fine) but ... If you have no plans for surround sound then you should be able to get a good receiver for under $300 maybe less. Check out circut city.
  13. Take a look at Harman Kardon - they under rate the watts ... but the receivers will push your system, no problem, with good clean power ... AVR 230 or better.
  14. What does everyone think about hooking up an iPod to my receiver (HK 230) and K-Horns? I heard that compressed MP3s won't sound as good as CDs ... is this true? Is this something you can notice or not really.....

I was looking at the 25-31, but a rep. from SVS reccommneded the 20-39 .... Maybe if I'm more of a music user then get the 25-31, but if I'm more of a moive user then get the 20-39? What does everyone else think? Thanks!

Currently my gear is in a 12 x 12 room with a high slantly ceiling (3rd floor roof). Although I could be moving in a year.... I like rap, rock, alternative, classic rock (everything from 50 cent to The Who and everything in between) I like mostly dramas and action flicks Scarface, Fightclub, Vanilla Sky, Matrix etc. I like to listen to my music loud so I can jamm out - on my AVR 230 and RF 35s the volume is around -20 to -30... Let me know & thanks for your advice!

Is the SVS 20-39PC+ really worth the $225 more over the SVS 20-39PCi ? Is the SVS 20-39PC+ a lot better than the SVS 20-39PCi ? ? ? Will I be able to tell/hear/feel the difference or is it just bragging rights.....???
  19. This is just my point exactly - do you think your sub should cost more than both your right and left flr. standing .... seems strange ..... like I said I'm new. What do you think about the cylinders? Honestly I'm thinking about the SVS 25 - 31 PCi ..... you think this is a bad idea?
  20. What does everyone think of Harmon Kardon Receivers? I heard they are good matches for Klipsch.
  21. Which SVS would compliment a pair of RF - 35s ? Like everyone was telling our friend with the RF - 7, I want to get something that isn't beneath my RF - 35s on the same hand I don't want to get this amazing sub that is way above the rest of my rig. song wega XBR 30" 16:9 RF - 35s Harmon Kardon AVR 230 sony dvd sony vhs
  22. I'm new to this.... Does it make sense to buy a Sub that costs more than both of your flr. standing speakers combined .... I was thinking that a sub should cost the same as one flr. standing? Is there a generally accepted practice ?
  23. SIZE IS NOT AN ISSUE....I LOOKED AT SVS - THEY LOOK COOL. WHATS THE BEST CYCLINDER 39 INCH?

  25. Well currently my rig is in my bedroom 12' x 12', But I may move in a year so I woulld like to get what's best for the speakers. I don't know how much I want to spend I got the speakers for $800 (400 a piece)... how much should your woofer cost in proportion to your speakers? Can I get a good Sub for $400 or should I be prepared to spend $800 ..... I need help. It seems to me that the cost of the sub should run a certain proportion to the speakers. Just like you wouldn't put Giavani Rims on a Honda Civic - or maybe some would.... help. My Rig Song Wega XBR 30" 16:9 Klipsch RF 35s Harmon Kardon AV - 230 Sony DVD w/progressive scan Sony VHS
