  1. >Sounds like you work near my neighborhood. I live in an exclusive gated >community that is guarded and video equipped. We try to keep undesireables >and people teetering on the edge of sanity out. ^ When the doctors let me go from the 'hospital' they said I would be fine if I took my medication every day...
  2. HornEd -- that rant was finer than frog hair. Yeehaw! Keith -- I broke down and couldn't wait to travel for some speakers so I bought local. I got the RF7s and a RC7. They didn't have the ones I wanted in stock so I broght home the floor models until they do. They are beat to hell and back (not quite as bad as that other posting I saw recently) but sound great. Still waiting to replace those. Good thing I brought them home and hooked them up as I found out that my Harman Kardon AVR8000 has a nasty noise coming from the left rear channel. Thats gotta go back to the factory and I am getting a replacement. I bought the RS7s from m00n which should be the first 'working' peace of equipment I have when those come in -- I'm certain they will be first rate when I get 'em on the walls. I'll take you up on the note-comparison but it sounds like you work about as much as me with crappy hours to boot. Living in Calera and working in Trusville is not condusive to home theater enjoyment. Lets get together and enjoy a co-cola or an adult beverage what ever the case may be. It was the Chorus line of speakers that hooked me on the Klipsch YEARS ago -- I never could afford them, though. My best friend got his in 88-89? and ran 'em off a Carver amp... oooh the memories.
  3. Hey Keith When the other member posted about the speakers on audiogon you obviously were on it faster than one can say "klipsch" so I really never had a chance. I began to suspect after a few days that something was amiss. I was thinking I actually had a shot at those since they were a local pickup... and thats what I get for thinking... The reference system is almost complete and it is sounding mighty fine so far. I have not had too much time to enjoy it yet though. After sitting in traffic on I-65 for 1.5 hours today I finally made it home, listened to DarkSideoftheMoon SACD and I got called back to work. I already know I am going in tomorrow. At some point this weekend I really want to "air" these babies out and see what they can do. The lack of bass that I was worried about when I first started to post has completely dissolved -- at least for the music. I think later down the road I will probably add an SVS to reach way down and tickle my insides for the DVDs that I like to watch. So next time "mum" is the word, eh?!
  4. The only thing more impressive than a pipe organ, is a pipe organ player. I can not imagine living in the 16-1700s and going to church with a big phat organ... talk about putting the fear of GOD in ya! I just got my RF7s a few weeks ago and the first two discs to go in the CD player were a Bach Fugue collection and Miles Davis's Cookin' Mmmmmm good.
  5. Tornado warnings = worry. Man, be careful! Those things are scary looking. I don't understand how people can willingly live in tornado area. but then I live in earthquake area and people probably don't understand that. ____________________________ Tornados are more scary sounding than looking. Growing up in FLA and living in AL I guess I have become "accustomed" to them (yeah, right). The problem here as opposed to the midwest is that you can never see them coming due to the hills. I also lived in WA when St. Helens blew -- That was a trip. Wildfires, Hurricanes, Floods, been there done that. I have been through a few very small quakes... the big ones seem so instantaneously catastrophic and unpredictable. What was the topic?! Oh yeah, can't wait to get my rs-7s. I am sort of limited on my options due to the size and shape of my room, budget, wife, etc. Had I gotten the KSP400s before T2K I would definately be going the RS6 route. In my long term thinking I may consider a rear center (C7) as AVman is. Bipolar/dipolar etc... speaker placement seems to be the trick from what little I've been reading and the different types of speakers can perhaps minimize the effects of placement.
  6. $0.24/ft for a 250 foot roll of 12g HomeDepot. It sounded better than the 10 year old 16g monster cable that had turned green. I've got some long runs in my house which had some bearing on my decision, though. Not sure how much improvement you are going to get spending that kind of lettuce on a cable. Save your money for another sub?! Hey Keith, my fatherinlaw is planting his garden this weekend... how many rows of 'maters to do think I could plant and tie up with about 20ft of old Monster cable?
  7. One must remember that Metallica got to be quite famous in the early 80s due to fans bootlegging their concerts. I have a copy of a copy of a copy of a show done in SanFransico '82 with Dave Mustaine on lead vocals and lead guitar and he absolutely SHREDS. Lars was kicking some sort of a 3 piece drum kit and James was pre-pubescently singing backup. Some very raw enjoyable stuff there. I think Dave made the band as good as it was ever going to get (he wrote most of Kill em All and part of Ride the lightning) and its been downhill in the 20 years since. I find it disgutsting that Metallica are going after the same type of fans that made them famous years ago. The Grateful Dead had an open recording policy, never really sold studio albums per se, and they consistently made more money than anybody for decades. I think Metallica's "go f*ck yourself" attitued applies more towards the fans who refuse to buy or listen their schwag anymore. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
  8. What a phat deal Next comes the phat sound I know you will enjoy them as much as I would have and from the sounds of things you have been waiting a tic longer than I. After much trepidation I decided not to take a road trip to by the RF7s, broke down, and bought local. Time constraints wouldn't allow a road trip for weeks and I wanted my sound NOW. When you get settled in, turn things up so I can get a listen.
  9. Hey mOOn, I tried to send you an email earlier but unsucessful. So I will try here. Consider these bad boys sold. Just email me your pertinent info ASAP and I will try and get something in the mail tomorrow! Do you have paypal?
  10. It took this long to find out that someone else 'stole' the KSPs that were a 'steal' RF7s here I come!
  11. Ken I'm with you man... Growing up in FLA I learned to respect a good pair of sunglasses when going outside. My eyes feel the difference at the end of the day. Same principle goes for the ears. It didn't take much for my ears to start ringing when listening to $h*t music on $h*t stereos... so I don't do it anymore. I was that dork walking around at concerts with the earplugs.

    Albums for free

I have about 200+ sitting in my garage. They have been moved about 20 times and not listened to in about 15 years: I have no idea as to the quality of any of them anymore but I can take a looksee when I get a chance. If my memory serves me correctly the collection makes up Jazz -- Bebop, big band, experimental (Getz,Mingus) Classical -- Mostly Baroque and Rock -- 60s, 70s, 80s (some metal) I'll try and make a list asap. But probably not this weekend as I am still in the hunt for some speakers and it looks like I am going to have to travel to get a deal. I'm not sure I could part with the Frank Zappa collection just yet. I told a friend two years ago to take them if he wanted them. And so they still sit in the same spot. I would love to donate to some needy ears.

    S.W.A.T

I think the reason my wife enjoyed that movie is one Colin Farrell. Pretty cheesy at times but a fun HT workout.

    Reservoir DOGS

Yep! Gilliam has been consistently funny for decades. Also like Tarantino, et.al., his films are a trip to watch. Good stuff. I was watching the E! True Hollywood... and had forgotten Uma Thurman was in The Adventures of BaronVonMunchausen. Nekkid as a jaybird too.

Dialogue, setting, music -- he is all good. QT is one of the few directors who can use music in a kick-ar$e way. David Lynch is another. Kubric's "A Clockwork Orange" William Tell Overture?!
  16. Thanks for the input Keith. One way or the other it looks like I am going for a drive to buy some speakers. The local guy's prices are high, but, considering the location I don't guess I would budge on them either. But since I don't live in that part of town I actually have to shop around... and that is fine with me. Quite a fun journey actually. Unfortunately, my room is going to be acoustically similar to $h*t. I will have to put the TV and main speakers in front of a large window. On the left side is a bedroom door and on the other is the opening to the kitchen. I honestly have no "corners" to speak of. On the opposite end of the TV where the couch will be -- behind that is an open formal dining room. Surrounds would have to go on the side walls. A guess at the dimensions?!? About 15' wide x 30' long and 14' ceilings. In other words lots of space to fill. This room will not be dedicated HT as it is the "living" room. Perhaps I will be living in front of my HT?! I am going to see about the KSP400s and the center channel on audiogon. If things work out do you think you would want to come off of that "pile of KSP-S6's" you say you have. A new crisis has me leaning towards the cheaper route: my ancient 27" proscan said "pop" recently, so now I am reluctantly starting that process. The WAF factor for a TV is much higher than the HT so maybe I will get lucky there.
  17. Keith -- it sounds like you have seen the same pair of speakers that I was talking about. Frzninvt -- You just made my life miserable by finding those speakers on audiogon... Now I have to reconsider everything. What would a pair of RF7s sound like with a pair of KSP400s? I could stretch the budget to allow for this but would be skipping out on a center channel. What a mess.
  18. I went to the store to buy my RF7s today. I had already compared the RF7s to a similarly priced DefTech model but came to the conclusion that I would get the 7s and purchase a sub (SVS?) later on -- then I found a pair of floor model KSP400s for $1600. They sound better (brighter, cleaner, crisper) than the DefTechs but still not as good as the 7s above the bass notes. Should I trade off the powered subs for a better sounding 7 and wait for the sub?! I'm 50/50 HT/Music: HarmanKardon AVR8000 for power. What say you Klipsch forum?
  19. Thanks to all for the input. After doing some brushing up on the specs of the old SW10s it would appear as though the RF7s are in the same frequency range. I think I will save my ca$h for a REAL subwoofer in the future. Hopefully my Harman Kardon reciever will be able to pump some bass into the Klipsch for the time being. If the taxman doesn't get all of my money this week I hope to get a sub sooner rather than later. UGH!
  20. I have enjoying this forum for several months now it is my turn to post. I have been a long time listener of Klipsch, but never an owner. I have been shopping around for speakers for several months and narrowed it down to either the RF7s or the similarly priced DefTech BP2002?... I think that was the model. (Don't worry people, I am getting the RF7s next week) In the store I was able to crank the p.o.s. Sony Reciever pretty hard and the Klipsch just about blew the rest of the hair on my head clean off. My only disappointment in comparing to the DefTech was the bass -- but I suppose powered subs will do that. I am on a limited budged and probably will not be buying a "decent" sub until next year -- but I have found an older SW10 for about $150 locally. Actually, there are two SW10s for sale and could probably get the pair for a little over $200. Would this be a good stopgap measure for bass until later? Is this a good price? From what I read from other posts are not two subs better than one? I have a HK AVR8000 used for 50%movies and 50%music I love metal/double bass, electronica (kruder&dorfmeister, etc.) and the Mrs. loves the booty shaking music. Thanks y'all for any input.
