  1. Mark, have you ever listened to original? I was just wondering if the mod make a significant improvement in sound quality. BTW I just got a email from hcman and his networks have arrived. Maybe we'll get a report this weekend.
  2. Thanks, daleh. I grounded it just like you explaned. It's totaly silent now.
  3. Thanks guys for all of your suggestions. I guess I better get to work.
  4. Are you certain you are making connection with the chassis metal? Chassis that are painted or anodized can be tricky to simply ground with a screw. You may want to try grinding the area with a dremel. Try to take your ground to the point on the Fisher where the electrolytic can capacitor lugs are twisted to the chassis. Thanks Mark, I'll try that next.
  5. Yes it does have a two prong chord. I'll try reversing the plug. Right now I've got it hooked up with a phono pre to aux. Sounds ok but doesn't seem to have near the gain as when the tt and phono pre were fed through the Kailin amp.
  6. The hum is in both channels. The tt works just fine through my HK 630 which has a grounding post on the back for a turntable. So there are no issues with arm or the cartridge. What I'm going to try next is run the tt through my Haggerman phono pre amp to the aux inputs on the Fisher and see how that works out.
  7. I've got a Fisher X-100 tube integrated amp that does not have a ground post for a turntable. I ran the ground wire frome the tt to a couple of different chassy screws but I'm still getting a huge hum from the tt not being grounded. Anybody got any ideas to rectify the situation?
  8. Mark , thanks for the great post. Hcman will salivate when he reads this.
  9. They are hard to see in the photos but I've got three holes drilled in each board for mounting. Don't the crossovers in cornwalls mount on the side walls? Do you think hcman will be able to use the exsisting internal wiring?
  10. Ditto that JB. Listened to it three times in the last two days. Right now Allman Bros at the Filmore is on the TT,
  11. Well I put the finishing touchs on them this afternoon. I'll get em shipped out to the west coast on monday. Hopefuly by next weekend the old Corns wiil be brought back to life. Maybe we'll get a report from hcman by then.
  12. Life is good. I went by Best Buy to pick up the new release form the Derek Trucks Band on cd. Lo and behold right next to the new release cds I find a rack of new vinyl for sale. Not much of a selection but I did manage to score a copy of the Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore East on 180 gram vinyl for 25 bucks. I'm listening to Derek Trucks right now and like what I'm hearing so far. They have a helluva band. Plus they are going on tour soon so keep your eyes open for shows in your area. I hope I get a chance to see them.
  13. I got a wild hair last night and assembled most the second board. It's a lot easier the second time around. I wont take much to finish them now. I just wish now that I had a couple of cornwalls to play around with for a couple of weeks to try these babys out.
  14. No, all the amps are used although the Kailin chinese amp is only a couple of years old. I just said $300.00 because that's what I paid for the 1962 Fisher X-100 which the most expensive of the lot. I paid $180.00 for the Kailin and $60.00 for the HK 630.
  15. I should have specified this earlier. A cheap amp is anything under 300 bucks.
  16. I am told a big fat reefer takes the edge off digital and SS makes almost any old amp sound like fine tubes... Dave It works for me. LMBO! My brothers. You are true southern audio men, one and all. You make me feel..............normal tc Indeed. On my honor as a southern gentleman, and a Texan to boot, I have it on the highest authority. Dave I love it. True Southern Audio Men.....I think I'll start a club.
  17. I've got a HK 630 hooked up that I paid 60 bucks for that sounds as good as any ss or tube equipment that I've tried so far including a Mac 2505 and C-26 set up.
  18. I am told a big fat reefer takes the edge off digital and SS makes almost any old amp sound like fine tubes... Dave It works for me.
  19. I'm listening to Neil Young Live at Massey Hall right now on tape from the RT -909 to the HK. This sounds as good as I've ever heard it. I think the next test might be to try the amps using the RTR as the souce.
  20. Ahh debauchery..........Hcman and I certainly had our share back in those days. Unfortunately, Forum decorum prohibits me from exposing the horrid details here. But, Tarheel, I'll fill you in on the gorry details next listening session. By the way, I just got the last resistors today, so one board is done...I'll probably get the other board sometime this weekend.
