  1. I've got a VPI Scout with Scoutmaaster platter and motor, and JMW-9 arm. I started with a Dynavector DV20XH high output moving coil and recently changed to a Dyna XX2 mk2. I use Dynavector's P-75 phono stage in PE mode and the sound is fabulous. This combo was highly recommended by Harry W. at VPI. The jump in cost from these two cartridges was huge but worth it IMO, and I could not be happier with the combo.
  2. Restore the console and install some newly restored components, then connect to K-Horns. How cool would that system be!
  3. Same here - once bitten twice shy I think they say.
  4. I actually considered driving down to get those! FWIW, there is a nice pari of AER MD3 drivers for sale on audiogon (I have no afiliation with the seller). These have the BD Design stickers with serial numbers and are also for sale on BD-Design's forum so their legit. Price is nearly half what they cost new. You could assemble an entire Oris horn system for barely more than a new pair of Cornwall III's. If I had 4 grand burning a hole in my pocket it would have been a done deal.
  5. This totally helps; I didn't know the numbers could be three or four digits. Thanks!
  6. I'd be interested in figuring out mine as well, but I have a seven digit serial number which doesn't seem to fit the formats. Numbers are 8413863 & 8413864.
  7. Nice avatar Chicago_Pete, looks like an original Bonneville. I had a Triumph for a couple years, thinking about getting another.
  8. Yes, Larry does still have the monster JBL's though I didn't get to hear them. We were anxious to get home since the weather was turning ugly. He told me he has been selling off a lot of speakers and is down to about 50 pair! He's got some nice vintage gear sitting around. He is a seriously nice guy and it would be fun to hang out at his place and check out all the hi-fi history. I just sent him an email to see if he has any american NOS 2A3 tubes - I can't imagine he wouldn't.
  9. Well it took all of 60 seconds to decide to buy these. They are in very good condition and they are now connected to my Moth amp and making sweet music. The worst part was the drive home in a blinding snow storm which took 3 hours when it should have been half that. We very nearly ended up in the ditch on the ramp from I43 to route 12 as we slid momentarily out of control on ice, my only thought being that if we roll these speakers will be toast. It was worth it though, my amp is much happier driving these than the Dahlquist DQM-9's I was using. SPECIAL THANKS to tidmack for linking the sale on this forum. I never would have found them. If you're ever in the area I owe you a brew! Ken
  10. I emailed Craig Uthus who built my amp and his personal speakers are 1978 Cornwalls, so I'm excited about this. What do you all think of the Electro Voice EVM-15L woofer "upgrade"? I have no experience with Cornwall's so I'll have no way of knowing if it's really better or not.
  11. Thanks for the tip-off, they might be just what my Moth 2A3 amp needs! I'm going up there tomorrow morning to check them out and I'll post after I get back, hopefully with the speakers!
  12. I've had several pieces of Adcom gear and liked them all. Still have a GCD750 (CDP), very nice. I had a GFA535II and thought it was an outstanding solid state amp. The more efficient the the speakers however, the brighter the amp sounded. I think it just needed to be working hard to sound best, and it can sure work hard. I used it to drive some very demanding AR-M5's and it worked beautifully, where a NAD amp with similar power rating sounds terrible. You got a nice piece of gear.
