  1. Six of the mono's have never been available on CD before this set. They would want the mono because of the style of "stereo" back then doesn't fit with their ears, or the fact that stereo was secondary for George Martin, up to even the White Album, everything was recorded with Mono as the primary, and stereo was only secondary. In some cases, the "stereo" is rechanneled fake stereo. As far as the stereo set, that is a whole 'nother can of worms because when the first CD stereo "remaster" issues came out they included mono mixes in error. Kind of a lousy deal, because of their error you have to get this "new and improved" remastered set to be sure that you have the right mixes that you prefer. I was never much of a Beatles fan, only likeing a few songs, but collecting the vinyl because of the collectibility. I always prefered the Stones and the Who, and that is probably because I got the chance to see them perform and so I could identify with them more. I must say, I'm really enjoying these sets. Hearing things I never heard before, etc. I have not even got to the mono's yet. Travis Travis
  2. You have managed to create another thread with banter build right in. I think on the Steve Hoffman forum they are on Stereo vs. Mono Part 32, they go to a new part after they reach 500 posts on each thread. However, I really like this thread, a very good opportnity to try and get some facts about these mixes in here, on both these latest CD issues, and the vinyl issues, including the Mofi's. The issue is really quite complex, because it is not just a Mono vs. Stereo thing, it is also a U.K vs Capitol on top of mono vs. stereo. It is further complicated by some "stereo" songs being "Duophonic" which is Capitol's fake stereo. I would say that the Mono's would be the one to get, if you had to chose one, because included several that are issued in Mono for the very first time. Whereas, the stereo issues do not contain anything completly new. Travis
  3. Only one? Are you kidding me? Thebes, Make some tea, sit back and listen to: Exil sur la rue Principale Travis
  4. You got that right my friend!!!!! You been "flying" a lot? Travis
  5. I just got one box of each, and I started with the stereo version of Please, Please Me, and the vocals are all out of the right ch and music out of left, but I must say, this version is actually very enjoyable. Rubber Soul is the same way, which is so very odd, but again, it is best stereo version I have ever heard. Revolver was out of the park. I really can't wait to hear the Mono versions tomorrow which have always been my favorite in Reel to Reel format. Travis
  6. As a matter of fact I am listening to Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's, People Get Ready sung by Joss Stone, absolutely incredible.
  7. Larry, That is very true. If it is hiss that would be totaly unacceptable. If it is hum then it is a different issue. So I guees the first thing in these situation is to determine whether you have a hiss problem or a hum problem. A dimmer can increase hiss, and have nothing to do with the equipment. But I do agree, nothing that I mentioned will help you with hiss. I wouldn't even begin to try and describe the difference, but you sure know it when after you have heard both. Travis
  8. Whether or not there is an interconnect or not does not matter. If you are trying to figure out the hum is coming from a cable box on the circuit it is better to use the optical digital output instead of the cable because that can tell you if it is audio vs. video cables that me be where the problem is occuring, and each has a different fix. I was most supprised by this is well until I understood that that amp is connected to everything else on that circuit, whether it is hooked up by an interconnect. What COULD be causing the hum is something else plugged into that same circuit. It COULD be an equipment problem, but this usually a very unlikely situation. I alway avoided asking questions like "does it have gas" or "are you sure it is plugged in" until I saw Sling Blade and it took the town idiot to figure out why the mower wouldn't work. So I have to ask, the reason your friend is selling the amp isn't because it was "too noisey" for his system or a "hum problem." I'm sure not, but I am prone to skip over the most obvious. I was on the phone for about 2 hours last night with an electrical engineer trying to figure out a solution to a very similar situatoin as yours, and so just know two things. It is sometimes complicated and difficult to eliminate a ground hum, but on the bright side, once you go through the steps and figure it out there is usually an answer on how to eliminate or minimize that hum. Travis
  9. I'm going through this issue right now and it is quite complex. First thing is try a cheater plug on the back of the new amp (3 prong to 2 prong). If that doesn't do it then you have to do through process of elimination and possibly get a filter. There is a great blog right here on Klipsch that discusses all of this.. The interconnect, not having any connected that is, kind of through me for awhile also. How one earth is is creating noise if it isn't "connected to anything." Unless it is a dedicated circuit, it is connected to everything in your house. More importantly, I would bet that you have a cable box connected to that circuit. What you are hearing is the difference in ground potential between the video cables and ground of your AC. Like I said, I would try a cheater plug first, and if it continues then try disconnecting your cable box, including the cables, this can be done by unpluging the cable box AC, the wire from the house to the box, and any and all audio cables from the back of the cable box. That would isolate your video cables. If in doubt disconnect them all, then try new amp. If no hum then you have isolated problem, then someone can tell you how to best address your problem from that point. Travis Edit: This is a link to Part One of "Buzz and Hum" and I believe that there are 5 or 6 parts. http://community.klipsch.com/blogs/andyw/archive/2007/11/09/hum-and-buzz-part-i.aspx Hope this helps
  10. JL That is a 4 track recording deck if it has seperate electronic units, there are much better options if you want to tinker and try out reel to reel. I can fed ex you a prerecorded tape to see if it plays correctly and if the price was right, like $50 you can mess with it and get your money back out of it pretty easy on ebay. Travis
  11. I really can't get over how those came out Mike. You have set the bar way too high. Travis
  12. Vandersteen Quatros. The black portion is a big black sock that is stretched across metal frame.
  13. Were they Vandersteens? They use a condom like approach on one of their speakers. Started with just offering black and then went to also offering some nice veeners. Travis
  14. Please don't do that, every time you do that it costs me money. And please, please don't come to the conclusion that I need to buy a new house. Thanks in advance. Travis
  15. Roy confirmed your gut. He said he designed them without out regard for a border or flange and he did not feel it would make any difference. However, I have been unable, thus far, to convince him to try it out on one of his "standards" in Hope and get measurements from the Chamber. Travis
  16. THe Otari MX 5050 is a GREAT deck if it is in good shape. Is it in a counsel or free standing? Does it have seperate preamp equipment for each track? If it says B II or B III it is a two (2) track high speed deck (7.5/15 Ips), but they also came with a 4th head as an option which will allow you to play 4 track stereo tapes back. There is also a switch above the heads to switch from 2 track playback to 4 track stereo playback. If it is says Q II or Q III it is a quad deck and not much use unless you want to set up a home studio and be able to record 4 tracks. The II and III indicated how recent a model. Most prerecorded tapes from 1960 on are 4 track stereo tapes. That is 2 tracks in one direction, flip tape over (or reverse if it is a reversing deck) and play tape in other direction. Professional recording and production, on the the other hand, is primarily 2 track stereo. Thus, the tape only plays in one direction. The only consumer prerecorded tapes that were 2 track were made prior to 1960 and just recently by the Tape Project. The Orari will record and play in 2 track (one direction) and if it has the 4th head option, it will play (not record) 4 track stereo tapes. If you are not interested in it and it has a 4 track play back head please let me know, as I would be very interested in it. If you can take and post some photos on here of the serial number placard with Model number, and the heads, I can tell you more about it. If it is a big console (not free standing) with seperate electroincs above it you will probably want to pass on it. What were you intending on using if for? Or was it just for giggles? Travis
  17. Ole Benny (GRHS) has a million behind glass that you can get your photo taken with. I am told that this photo of this guy's system has about 1,000,000 worth of equipment. Luther said the Jubilees were about 95 percent of these 130K speakers. We both agreed there is no way on earth, and way too many other things in life, to make it worth 122K for an extra 3 to 5 percent. Thanks for the photo Luther Travis
  18. Wait, ignore previous respone regarding equipment list, let me borrow a tip from an old pro: Active bi-amp on big-er [new] horns with tubes on mid & highs (K69/402 Horn), s-s on bass bin! (DCR-KHJ) Travis
  19. Res Ipsa No sub needed, expect for man made created sound effects from movies (LFE) They will handle any and all musical instruments. Travis
  20. List my equipment? And leave a paper/e trail for my wife to follow, are you serious? You may not recall, she is Silcilian, very good at saving my money. I apply lipstick to my collar when I am about to purchase something just to throw her off track for awhile. (Yes, they really do sleep with one eye open). I was either going to get Pallidums, or 3 LS's across the front with some sort of subs that Trey was telling me about, or B&W 802s I believe they were (about same price as Pallidums). The big issue on the whole deal was there was no corner for the right front speaker because I would have loved to put Anniv Khorns in there. Nor was their room to do a false wall. I went to Hope in June of '07 to listen to them with Roy, he set them up in corners at first and them set them up how they would be configured in my room, there was very little difference between the two set ups. While I was there I saw a pair of prototype Pallidums which I was not supposed to see. As you may recall, they were not announced until Sept. of that year. Roy said that about all he could say was they were going to compete in the high end market with the likes of B&W, etc., was not sure on pricing, something like in the 20's etc. After listening to the Jubes in Hope I placed an order for Jubes I wanted the raw plywood so I could have them painted with a piano laq. finish with a nice center veneer . I wanted the horns painted. Roy thought all of those things could be done and submitted it, however, it was a very busy time for Pro-Cinema and at some point in the chain they were nixed as being unable to accomodate. So I decided to wait until the Pallidums came out to see how they sounded because my wife would probaby prefer them over the jubes because of the looks even though they would be about twice as much. When Klipsch formally anounced the Pallidums they indicated they would be on display at the home audio/theater installers show (CEDA?) in Denver. I sent Roy an email saying I was going to go listen to the Pallidums in Denver and asked if he was going to be at the show. He sent me an email back saying I should save my money because he was still waiting to finalize a driver, or port, or something, and he wasn't sure what was going to be in Denver but it wasn't going to be production Pallidums because he was still ironing out an issue. As it turns out they had a dummy pair at that show. So I woud inquire of Amy from time to time on the status, and there was not a lot of info available to her. Then I thought I would check them out at CES in Jan. of '08. As I recall I was told by Amy or someone that the P's were not ready at that point either and there would not be a set available to listen to is CES. I figured if they were not available at CES it was going to be awhile for them to come out. I read a couple of interviews about the Pallidums on the Klipsch Corner and after reading that and talking with Roy, Dean and some others I decided to go with the Jubes because Roy felt that he could go with exotic plywood. So I ordered them sometime in March or April of '08 I believe. So that was the consideration involved in selecting them and what else was being considered. Travis
  21. My 2nd Top Notch in as many months, only thing better than receiving one of those is a two word verdict. Thanks JB Travis
  22. Looking forward to seeing both of those additions Kudret. Maybe you can share your grillle plans with Luther and I to give us an head start. Luther was originally thinging of drilling the plywood to use for some rare-earth mags to hold them on, but I think he said he is looking at another approach now.
  23. The ones you sent me are superior to the Jubes in every respect, save and except one-the size of the sweet spot on yours are slightly lacking, although the high end with yours is a bit more full bodied. I will try and post some pictures of yours when we had them up running an A/B comparison with the Compirator I had on loan. Travis
