  1. I owned a pair of RF7's for about 6 months and traded them for LaScala's. I much prefer the Heritage sound. It's a fuller, more real sound to me.
  2. Thanks John. I already do have a nice Hsu sub. I don't even know if I need to stiffen my LS... just thought it may pay off to do so. I'm really a stereo noob in a lot of ways.
  3. If it's a subtle sound difference at best, I'm not going to change the woofers. I run a sub, and Rega separate amp and pre, so I have no problem getting all the slam I want right now. I thought the K43 might make some HUGE difference... apparently not. Thanks all, and you too, Mike Coulter.
  4. Anyone have a diagram or something showing how to stiffen the inside of the bass box on a LS so the sides don't resonate?
  5. My dealer wants to install the K43 woofers in my 2005 LaScalas. He says the slam is night and day different from the stock K33's. Thoughts?
  6. My dealer wants to install the K43 woofers in my 2005 LaScalas. He says the slam is night and day different from the stock K33's. Thoughts?
  7. Do connectors on the ends of speaker wire further muddy the water? Would I be better off running twisted 12 gauge wire ends to the terminals of my amp and LS's?
  8. LaScalas w/ sub will kick the crap outta most everything out there... especially after a couple cocktails.
  9. I DUG THIS GUY'S TAKE ON CD vs LP FROM ANOTHER FORUM, AT ANOTHER TIME. HE SAYS: "The author's note about CD's lack of clicks and pops illustrates an idea that I have long held about the reason why the masses and many audiophiles still hold the illusion that CD sound is superior. They are more concerned with listening to what's NOT there on a CD than the MUSIC that IS there on an LP. When CD's first came along, they seemed like a revelation to your average person who was used to listening to poorly maintained records on cheap, rumbly turntables. If you are used to listening to records in this fashion, the quiet behind the music on a CD certainly makes it sound "better." This is why your average person who converted to CD -- or who grew up knowing only CD's -- still believes the CD was a sonic improvement over the "old fashioned" LP. Those of us who are serious vinyl listeners know that the noise-free LP is the Holy Grail and it requires proper cleaning and care. But even an old record with some degree of surface noise can contain rich music that transcends this background if you are listening for music rather than for the blank space around it." _______________ My THOUGHTS: I've thought about this a lot, and had considered going back to vinyl, but the bottom line for me, is that I love the cleanliness and durability of a good CD. To my untrained ear, for the most part CDs sound great on my stereo too. CDs it shall remain for me. -jpm
  10. DeanG, Your listening room is very understated and clean. I like your taste. jpm
  11. Thanks mdeneen, Regardless, it perfectly matches my Rega amp and preamp. I'm stoked!
  12. I just called my dealer and asked about the Apolo being plastic. He said it's aluminum. I put in my order for one this morning. Thanks for the replies.
  13. mdeneen, My current Planet is a flat black metal shell with a plastic face plate and the top door is plastic. Is the Apolo the same build, or has it gone all plastic?
  14. Awhile back I just about traded my Rega Planet cdp for a new Rega Apolo cdp. I'm now financially ready to do that and wondered what any of you thought that may have "actual hands on experience" with these two players. My dealer will allow me $400 trade in value for my Planet, so the difference will be $600 + tax. It's not the money I'm worried about. I've read some glowing reviews on the Apolo (The Stereo Times). I asked my dealer yesterday how much difference between the two and he said maybe not $600 worth... however, he did say the Apolo is very, very good, and they can't keep them in stock. He'd have to order one with a two week wait; no big deal to me. So, any thoughts?
  15. exactly the reason I sold my very powerful tri-path Carver. the fan drove me up the wall at lower volumes.
  16. I owned a new set of RF7s for a few months. I agree that they were all about the highs and lows, at least to my ear. At high volume, with a very powerful amp, they screamed at me... and I didn't like it. I traded them back in to my dealer with an additional $2 large and picked up a new set of LaScalas and a Hsu sub. Wow! I couldn't be more happy. I haven't heard the 83s, but from what I've read and can envision, I'll bet they're fabulous sounding towers.
  17. Hsu VTF-3 MK2 no problems keeping up $800
  18. No Monster cable in my casa. Oops! My 05 LaScalas are wired with Monster from the factory.
  19. How do these Jubilee's sound compared to Khorns for instance? What are they really? Theater speakers?
  20. Set12, as I read your post I gather you think standard LaScala's are poor sounding speakers... correct?
  21. Why bother? Why not just screw on some nice backs like the new 'limited' ones and place as close to a corner as possible? Wouldn't that accomplish the same sound/effect as false corners?
  22. I'd tell you what he has, but I think he reads the board and I don't want to piss him off.
  23. I know a guy that runs with the loudness button depressed at all times. His speakers sound like crap.
