Khorns in the audio room... its been 13 years.
charlieboy replied to charlieboy's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
For now I will do two simple and free things. I have dynamat left over from another project which I will wrap the mid horns with, and I will time align the tweeter drivers with the mid drivers placing them at the top rear of the speaker for now. -
Brought these home a few days ago! Things worked out.

Khorns in the audio room... its been 13 years.
charlieboy replied to charlieboy's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I just got them home two days ago and have not done a thing to them. I'm using regular 14 gauge copper speaker wire and everything is stock with the Khorns. I haven't even thought about any upgrades and I am just enjoying them for now. Upgrades will come later when I determine what they will be. I will be treating the room in the coming months as that has been my plan for a while now. Charlie -
Sold my Khorns 13 years ago but now I have some again thanks to the “alert” thread here in the Garage Sale section. They are KBR 1979 vintage.

SOLD!!!! -
I’d like to ask as it’s been 13 years since I have owned Khorns what do most here think would be a fair price. I know things are worth what someone will pay but taking into consideration these are 15 miles from my house what do similar make/models go for? They definitely came down from their initial asking price.

Just met with the seller. Nice speakers in really good shape. They will be home with me soon as long as things go as we discussed. 15 miles from my house. Thank you RobF who started this thread for the heads up.

I found them again listed 23 hours ago in both Los Angeles and San Francisco (which is 3 hours away each way from Visalia where they supposedly are).. I emailed but no reply yet.

Ooooooooooooooh Gezus! These are 15 minutes away from me. Fingers crossed.

Price is net to me. Emotiva USP-1 line stage preamplifier with amazing MM/MC phono stages. This was surprisingly one of the better preamps I’ve used under 1,000.00 dollars with so many features. I have the original very nice solid steel remote also and I might have the original box. Everything is spotless. It was used in a low hour second system very briefly. 300.00 shipped in the lower 48

James Burgess built these monoblock amps using a pair of circuit boards from "diytube" (Shannon Parks). These are based on the Eico HF89 and HF87 with 12AX7 for voltage gain and 12SN7 as phase splitter. Output tubes are Russian "Tungsol" 6550s. KT88s can be directly substituted or EL34s can be used if bias is adjusted for same. He built the wood bases and custom cut/punched the heavy aluminum plates. The plates then were powder coated with a "copper vein" look. The power transformers are "Angela Universal" and the output transformers are custom "clones" of the HF89 items. Both power and output transformer covers have been powder coated "gloss black". James used hexfred rectifiers and Nichicon "for audio" power supply capacitors and added a choke. These have integral hospital grade power cords installed. Currently these amps are connected in triode mode providing around 30 watts per channel and they sound amazing. Very detailed! A full set of all tubes will be included. Local pickup would be great as these are VERY heavy but shipping could be arranged. I have been shipping audio gear and turntables for 15 years and never had a problem but it will not be cheap. 1,500.00 Price is NET TO ME. I am 19 years Paypal verified. I live 30 minutes south of Fresno California and I am willing to drive an hour north or south to help with potential pickup it it helps, or serious buyers can listen to them in my system. I might consider a possible trade for a really good DAC equal or more than I am asking with cash to make up the difference of course.

Really nice. I'd take these in a heartbeat but sadly I'm on the wrong side of the country.

Appreciate that thank you. -
Around 2006 or so I used to speak with my dear friend Eddie Vaughn (of then Vaughn Audio) almost nightly and I always wanted one of his amazing "Carina" EL84 SET amps. We lost touch over the years and I am still wanting one of these amps. If you have one or know of someone who does please let me know. Thank you Charlie
