  1. Well its more than just doubling your power. There are other benifits.I run my LaScalas in a biamped configuration using an active(outboard x-over). Here is a great article explaining what its all about. It gets somewhat technical but overall the article is easy to understand. http://sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htm http://sound.westhost.com/bi-amp2.htm If you have any questions send me a pm. Greg
  2. Amazing how simple problems can be,glad you figured it out. Greg
  3. Hello, Is this a problem that recently developed?Have you made a change to the system?I would check all my wires making sure the signal wires and power wires are not close to each other. Also if you have added a component, unplug it and see if it goes away. You could have a bad connector on a interconnect or not seated (plugged in) just right.Lots of possibilities.Check your wires first. Greg
  4. Hello, Welcome to the forum.Sounds like you got your priorities right,HORNS & TUBES!!! Greg
  5. Micheal, That same pic in Feb would be taller! Thanks! Greg
  6. Jay, Appreciate you tring to help out,but not a big deal really. For $150 it would have been a good deal.Sounds like you are liking the Sovteks as I do.The RCA's are better but maybe not worth what the asking price is nowadays.I wanted to call to say no big deal and I wasnt worried about it. Greg
  7. Jay, Send me your phone #. gwstmr@hotmail.com Greg
  8. Well, depends on what you want to spend,I think they could be worth $200 for a pair but didnt want to spend that, you? Greg
  9. Which ones? The one we put the bid on got blown out of the water<our bid anyway. Greg
  10. I was lookong at the horns for sale on ebay from the same company listed in the vintage horn section http://cgi.ebay.com/Bent-Wood-Horns-200Hz-Exponential-Horns-2-Red-Oak_W0QQitemZ9714615229QQcategoryZ73372QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Looks like a killer set up with the bass bins. Greg
  11. All my girlfriends like Bill Withers. Some serious mood setting songs here!
  12. Kudret, I am unsure of the value, but will be at my computer in the final minutes. If the price isnt too crazy I will be bidding. If you are interested in bidding dont let me stop you. I see you could use all 4 with your Seths. What do you have in them now? Greg
  13. Are you interested in splitting the cost of this auction on ebay if we were to win.A max price would be set to bid of course. The auction is for a quad of NOS RCA/USN CRC 2a3 blackplates.I can use 2 but not 4.If interested send me pm. http://cgi.ebay.com/NOS-USN-RCA-2A3-matched-quad-black-plate_W0QQitemZ9714168148QQcategoryZ67816QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Greg
  14. Pat, You can get it at any hardware store.Just ask for electrcal contact cleaner.I believe you can remove the cover and spray it in the volume control while rotateing the knob from the outside.Look for a product with a spray tube included(looks like a straw) to have more control of the application. Greg
  15. jazman. I agree if a guy does it right he can land some very good tubes for a good price.I believe I will enjoy the RCA's and with these amps there should be a noticeable difference between the tubes. I will eventually get to the blackplates, hey I'm not in a big hurry, want to enjoy the NOS RCA's for awhile get used to them then with some surplus of $$$ work on getting the blackplate monos. Greg
  16. Jay, I look forward to your impressions of the Sovteks.Dont know what you have replaced but I think you will like them.I'll have to give some impressions of the RCA's when they make it into the amps vs. the Sovteks. Every amp is different and has its own sound with any given tube so this could be interesting.I say interesting because the impressions expressed here are with amps other than mine. Will I have the same impressions? Greg
  17. I agree with Mike, either that or cables were to close to something.Generaly xlr's are disigned for long runs and low noise/interference.Glad you solved the problem. Greg
  18. Erik, I think the Moth is pretty cool too.Are they still in business? I am looking forward to the sound of the RCA's.Should be interesting. Greg
  19. jazman, Yes,these are not the blackplates I spoke of in an earlier post.I think these are from the 50's due to the red lettering.Wanted to hear the older RCA's and the price was reasonable,I think? Greg
  20. Hello, Sounds like a ground loop issue.First get your wires straightened out ie.separate signal wires and power cords.Have you tried a different placement for the amp just to see if it reduces the hum? Also you can turn off power of one auxillary component at a time to see if it goes away.Basicly try anything you can think of when it comes to wire orientation. Greg
  21. Well,I won an auction for a pair of NOS RCA 2a3's.I am looking forward to comparing them with the Sovteks. http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?accstube&1145497253&item&auc Greg
