  1. Thanks Ear, I have read some reviews and they claim to be very musical ie fast and detailed.Sounds like a good match for the La Scala bass signature.I would hope that 2 of these in the corners behind my LS would keep up.I have researched the product at thier website and am intrigued by the approach to bass reproduction. They are rated at 96db/1watt/1mtr and claim to be down 6 db at 95hz,the integrater or x-over control has a gain control of -10 to+10.Every review claims good blending with high freq transducers and quality over quantity presentation...2 of these in corners should make up for the quantity aspect. Thanks again for your wisdom,Greg
  2. To theEar, I am looking at 2 Bag-End S18E/ELF x-over and a Bryston 4B amp to drive them. This is a package deal I have been offered.I see it as a complete sub system to keep up with my La Scala's.Have you heard this setup and if so what is your opinion? Thanks, Greg
  3. Hi, Are you sure about the T version having the loading cap?I guess I have to take mine apart and look.I took Bill of Great plains word for it.Figured he was the expert. Greg
  4. According to Bill at Great Plains the 902-C is the same as the original A,then Altec made a B version which has a shorting ring in the magnet which cuts down on air volume behind the diaphragm done to help power handling by restricting diaphragm movement.Without the ring the driver has a lower resonance freq. resulting in a warmer sound. The T is like the A version.T standing for theatre being used only in theatre systems. Ditto, canceled my subsciption and sold most of the gear that they recommended.I read too many times that horns are colored!I went back to my roots-LaScala's. The only way I would like to see a review is if a competent Klipsch rep.set them up. Greg
  8. Congradulations Delano, I believe you will enjoy the Shanling equipment.I own the SP-80 Monos/CDT-100 combo, both modified by Chris Johnson ex prez of Sonic Frontiers at the Parts Connection in Canada. This is SOLID gear with a fantastic sound!I have enjoyed these in my system for a year now. I am planning on selling the CD player not because I don't like the sound but I got a great deal on a Mark Levinson #39.The Levinson is better but the Shanling is a close second and definately smoother. In the end I really like the preamp section in the Levinson and the digital switching plus processing capabilities, those features fit my future plans for my system. If you are interested in a Shanling player at a good price let me know.Enjoy your new Shanling. Greg
  9. Thanks John, This is not what I expected to hear according to my ears and perception of my system.I do have the LAS out from the corners and side walls about 2ft or so.Amazing what a sub will do for the LaScala as far as smoothing the horns out and adding presense to the music. Also surprising how much signal information is present at the lower freq.I'm sure everyone has heard one time or another that there is little if any music infomation below 60 or so hz. Greg
  10. The reason I ask this question is I will be making my LaScala's 2way with a 511B and 902 driver.I believe the 511 is rated at 109db.I want to figure out where my K33 bass horn is.Then I will have an idea how far they are apart and hopfully be able to set the balance between the two.I run a Velodyne sub now set at about 70hz on the crossover. The confusing part is with the sub going it sounds like the K33 output equals the horns, without the sub the bass sounds thin, overpowered by the horns. The sub is set to reproduce the freq. that the LaScala's can't. Greg
  11. Did you read the post on the Tractic horn?
  12. I might have to do that too!
  13. I have heard of that, intersting to know that it helps!I picked mine up the other day and tapped them and WOW they rang alot more than I expected
  14. Yes I noticed that too.I had planned the same thing and the added benifit IMO is isolation from the cabinet posibly reducing vibes getting to horn.I also want to use a product called Noise Kill by Rockford Fosgate that will damp the horn.Comes in a spray can and would be easy to apply.Should reduce ringing. Greg
  15. Awsome, I was waiting to see how it was gonna turn out.I think I am going to slit my top section and set it back the distance of the flare of the horn in addition to raising the top about 3/4 inch or so.Kind of like a Belle.I want to round the front of the top section to follow the lines of the horn front flare. Then I will fashion a grille along the rounded front. This project is getting way out of hand but hey I am having fun just trying to figure it all out.The hardest part is going to be making that first cut...then I guess you hit the point of no return, like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.Job well done, that horn looks wild.Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Greg
  16. A LaScala is rated at 104db/1 watt at 1 mtr.My question is what are each of the 3 individual drivers rated at?I ask because it seems that the mids and highs always overpower the bass. They seem HOT in comparison. Thanks,Greg

  18. Anyone know about these?I looked at Fostex site but no info.Kind of KOOL looking but what do they sound like??? Greg
  19. Does anyone have experience with these and can you make a recommendation for a pairing with my LaScala's.I currently own the Velodyne and am familliar with the sound. My problem is that the Velodyne is broke and may not be repairable. It will cost me $200 or so if the problem is the accelerometer/servo assembly on the driver... if that is the problem.Worst case it is the driver and they dont make them anymore.I dont know if I want another Velodyne if I cant get parts.Have seen the SVS alot in this forum and I'm curious. Thanks Greg
  20. Thanks everyone for the info.I was also wondering about the despersion as compared to the K-77.I am currently working out a 2way LaScala mod in my head utilizing a 511B/902-8 horn combo.Might end up going back to 3way and would like to use these if they would be superior to stock. Greg
  21. Hello, Saw these on ebay in vintage horns and drivers.Does anyone have expierience with these? How do they compare with T35's in my LaScala's or the Beyma tweeter? What kind of price range would they sell for? Thanks,Greg
  22. Mike, I currently run a Velodyne F1500 with my LasScala's and find it blends well in my room.I have to keep the level of the Velodyne up around 6 on the level control and x-over at about 60hz.It will be different for every setup so a little experimintation will be in order but can be a plus for the sound.I have owned LaScala's for about 18 yr.The first 5 or so without a sub. When I did get one...WOW.I didnt realize how much bass they were missing at the time. They have bass but it seems you have to really crank on them to get it.At moderate levels the sub really fills in something that seems to be missing. They say that HF give the sound a sense of presense.I believe the bass adds a certain foundation to the sound as well as presense. Greg
  23. Forgot to add call Phil Marchand of Marchand Electronics. His gear was recommended by Al K.,also Phil will answer the phone himself.Seems like a good guy.He will be able to answer some questions. His equipment gets great reviews. Greg
