  1. Denon is absolutely the best when it comes to power for your money, but like said earlier on the forum, unless you buy used stuff, you are not getting anything too 'valuable' in terms of power. But, since you are going to be listening probably only to music, since you mentioned no DVD player, and only an Onkyo CD player: I have experience with an older amp, the Yamaha 3090, which is a great beast for emanating the true quality for audio CDs. It does not have the 4 or five channel stereo option as most Denons or newer Yamaha's will have, but for pure two channel stereo, this is it! One more option you could look at is getting a pre/power amp combo from any of the good companies out there. I have tried out a low budget amp like the Yamaha 430 with an Adcom power amp, and the sound used to blow my curtains off..literally! Hmm, I do believe I would go for the latter idea! Try get a matching pre/power from Adcom, or NAD, or better yet, Carver! Used stuff will certainly do you good in terms of bang for the buck! But get it from someone you can trust!
  2. D-REX!!! Stop looking at multiple options, because you'll never make up your mind!! hehe, anyways, you're welcome, it's nice to share experiences.
  3. D-Rex, I would also go for the Velodyne..yes, because of the weight!! It's kind of strange, but I have always found higher weghing subs catching my attention the fastest, and they prove great in sound too! But like I said earlier, you need to test them out..if you are doing your buying online, go with the 'weighty' option, and keep them fingers crossed!
  4. I am a big supporter of Kicker subs - you can check out their range of subs to offer, with a corresponding amplifier as well to power the sub, as your factory pre will not support it. Just a few days back, got a demo of a JBL bass tube, lovely black colour, installed in his hatchback, and it blew my hair the other way! You have got to check those JBL bass tubes out! he got the 10' one but they have 12' ones too! I believe the model number was CT-1000 for my friends' it only cost USD 150!! And he paid USD 100 for a non branded Taiwan made amp, which you can replace with a good one to get even better bass action!!
  5. I have used two subs in my own setup, as well as for freinds locations as well, and can wholeheartedly recommend using more than one to fulfill that beast inside us that says you can never have enough bass! I can however, guarantee, based on my experiences with myself and friends, that one should purchase a second bass unit, i.e. sub, only if it goes lower than the original sub in frequency response. I have tried numerous subs from Klipsch, Velodyne, REL, Mirage, Yamaha, JBL etc. and have never found that two of the same kind make more bass!! It's only by extending the depth of the bass that you will feel the difference. Do try this technique, and let us know what you think/find out! Maketh bass so that the doors rattle, the windows fall off, and the neighbours move out!! Two subs are better than one, and even better than none!
  6. I have extensive experience with the KSW series of subs from Klipsch, and have to agree with most of you on the forum that the KSW10 and 12 are suited for small to medium rooms respectively, while the monster KSW 15 should be pretty ok for a medium - large setup. I had the KSW 15 in a hall of 30 feet length and 15 feet wide, and it still rattled the two small windows. I also have considerable usage experience of Yamaha subs, and can say that their 315 and 320 models are damn good, producing low bass like nothing I have heard. I have got one of my friends to run two Yamaha subs in one room, one is the 105 and the other a 320, and your hair will fly off if you put on a deep bass track! To be very objective, can only recommend that you try out the subs in your own home, and see/hear what sounds better in your own environment.
  7. that is not a deal to miss..i got my RC3 II for nearly USD 420 so the amount you'll be spending is peanuts! Don't miss out!!
