  1. Wow, that is beautiful. Excuse my wood ignorance. Is that mahogany? Nice work on the insides too. Like a work of art in there. What a great piece to have in your office. What are the other components in your office you're mating this with?
  2. It will be good to hear what some of the Bay Area folks think of them. I put my pcats up next to the Blueberry for a better view and picture for you all. I've had a good couple of hours with them tonight. In those two hours I can tell you they sounded wonderful. "Wow!" is all could get out in an email to Mark. Never have I placed a piece a equipment that I felt easily bested the current gear I was using. The Blueberry did not create as dramatic of an improvement in my system as these seem to have done. What I'm comparing them too are several properly restored vintage tube amplifiers such as the Marantz 8B and McIntosh 240, a Rogue 88 Magnum and a Wright Sound 2a3 have all spent time in my den. Decent amplifiers, not world beaters but I have always liked my restored vintage amps. But in these first couple of hours, I have the feeling my old amps are being easily out performed. Two hours worth of listening to familiar material for me. Talking Heads, DIre Straights, Wilco, Neil, and the like. Just an all out improvement from what I had going. Scary imaging, wonderful vocals, a real depth to the intstruments. The music would not let me ignore it. It's only two hours but I've seen some calls for first impressions so you're getting one. I kind of hate to give a good first impression since most of you all are probably rolling your eyes.... nobody ever hates thier new amp do they? To avoid the "you paid for it, it must be good" comments, I'll be brutally honest and say I was kind of hoping I wouldn't like them or at the very least, not be impressed with them. Mark and some of his liberal takes on things political make me want to scream sometimes. I'm sure my takes would make him scream. But thankfully, this is an audio forum, Mark has amps to sell, I have money to buy amps, liberals, conservatives, trading goods and services, just one happy party. Sorry Mark, I hope you can still sleep tonight[] Somehow, in a perverted way I am trying to compliment your accomplishment.
  3. Dean, No dig time yet but a 3 day weekend is upon me. Looking forward to it.
  4. 6foot8, Al K and Parrot. Kind of a Bermuda Triangle of Jubilee angst.
  5. LOL, I was thinking more like the new owners either hate them and are to embarassed to post a review or they are enjoying them to much to bother letting us know how they sound...... It's the latter. I can tell you that once you hear them, you will want no other amplifier. Really, no matter what other amplifier you have, you will want to upgrade to the pCAT. They are available now, so I can't understand why anyone would not order a pair. Nothing else is in their league. Don't even comment until you hear them. And if you're going to slam them because your envious, stay away.
  6. Agreed, but change the name from forum to "my own private site". Doesn't it say "Klipsch" at the top and wasn't she hired by them to in part, keep this forum within guidelines? Couldn't they simply delete the forum if they so choose and not need to give anyone any kind of reason? I think it (his comments) were exceedingly rude, crass, offensive, inappropriate and to suggest Roy has lied or otherwise manipulated some people here, he finally crossed the line. If that means that I for one have thin skin for finding that offensive, then I'll hold my hand up as guilty for having thin skin. I think he should have been banned much sooner for his bird crap and I was really amazed at the tolerance of Amy/Klipsch that they let him go on as long as they did. Part of me WILL miss Parrot, but only a small part. Any non-Jubilee owners think Paul should have been banned?
  7. Mark, I sent you an email with some pictures. So how pretty do they look in someone else's house finally? I sure do love the looks.
  8. The Hooterville express showed up today and although there are million things I should be doing, I couldn't help but to get the big old boys up an running. They defintely have a commanding footprint. No manual yet, but set up was a breeze with some simple instructions provided by Mark via email. Plug them in and turn them on, watch the bias lights go yellow, red, green... small adjustment to get them to green. They are playing now. Everyone in the house is asleep and they like to stay that way so I can't do much other than to tell you they set up easy and play problem free. Not always the case when buying esoteric audio equipment from my experience. Going to be fun to get some real listening in this weekend.
  9. There is nothing to spill. He doesn't have his pcats yet. No one does. Scott, Have yours shipped yet? Yes, about a month ago it seems like. See the "heavy metal" thread.
  10. There is nothing to spill. He doesn't have his pcats yet. No one does.
  11. I think it's and organ. They used to offer them as prizes on The Newlyweds.
  12. I've heard Allan's system more than once which is why I'm going this route. The first time I heard Sonny Rollins, I'm An Old Cowhand on that Thorens, I KNEW that table was made for jazz records!! You just can't recreate that sound on any modern table I've ever heard. However, I listen to more than just jazz so it'll be really nice to have both options!! Excluding the difference between mono and stereo, why would a table, arm, cartridge reproduce one style of music any better than another? The table, arm, cartridge is merely reproducing whatever is in the record groove. If it can do jazz well, why wouldn't it do anything well?
  13. LOL Give me a break. My opinion is "worth" the same as yours or anyone else's in here. That's why it's called OPINION! WRONG! My opinion is worth something because I have acutually owned and listened to both of the tables. You have not. Therefore your opinion is worthless--complete nonsense. Again, your opinion of the new Thorens when compared with your old TD-125 is valid because you have OWNED both tables. If I chimed in about THAT comparison my "opinion" would be as worthless as your "opinion" of the relative merits of the TD-124. OK fair enough, I "get" that. But I was referring to the technology comparisons in general not the subjectivities of the human ear.[*-)] My old 125 was all stock, had noisy electronics and as you know, didn't have the same type of arm-board design as the 124. Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that YOU believe that your TD-124 has superior sonics to any of the other decks you've owned. I wouldn't question that. I'm just trying to rationalize it with some sort of physical quantifiable characteristics. If it's not measurable or quantifiable in some way, then IT TOO can be complete nonsense. To what specifically do YOU attribute it's superiority? Besides the arm and plinth are you making any other major changes?? WOT The TD125 is a belt drive, suspended table that has nothing in common with the TD124. My point, as you can see from Allan's enthusiam, many people buy these tables because they absolutely love the sound. It has nothing to do with their retro looks, they truly believe that they can't be beat.
  14. I have no doubt the idler/wheel Thorens/Garrard are nice tables with a neat retro "look" and decent performance once fully reconditioned. But I would much rather pay $400 for a belt-drive TT with more modern motor electronics that sold for $700-800 in the early 90s (TD318/320) than $1000-1200 (what 124/301s have rediculously been going for on eBay as of late) for a table that was $89-99 in 1960. I mean I understand inflation but... The performance difference certainly isnt aligning with the cool factor IMO. I guess it's just supply-demand?? But I suppose if you're looking to keep "in theme" with your mono-phonic aspirations it may make historical sense. JMO WOT Actually there is a lot more to the idlers than just cool retro looks. The 124 and the Garrards 301/401 in particular. Some people say they combine the best of belt and direct drive without their drawabacks. Actually, I forget what people say but it's been discussed here in several threads over the last year or so. I guess I'll have to go back and re-read them myself. You have to hear a good one in proper working order and judge for yourself whether the idlers are for you. But it is definitely not just the cool retro looks that make these a great choice of some people.
  15. Gary, I've got a very nice extra 124. I rebuilt it myself and it runs like a charm. It's been stored away for the last year neatly in a box. It doesn't play jazz though. Check your email when you get back from the dungeon.
  16. If you notice the original delivery notification says April 3rd. However I received a rather unusal UPS notification today. I think Mark put my pCats on the Hooterville Express and Uncle Joe was probably asleep again. Do not reply to this e-mail. UPS and JuicyMusic will not receive your reply. At the request of JuicyMusic, this notice alerts you delivery of the following shipment has been rescheduled. Important Delivery Information Tracking Number: 1Z3384FX0391693543 Exception Reason: A LATE TRAIN CAUSED THIS DELAY Shipment Detail Ship To: Scott Anderson US UPS Service: GROUND Weight: 63.0 LBS Reference Number 1: pCAT 1
  17. That's right. The 12ax7's are probably just fine, they don't seem to wear out often. What brand are they? If you're looking for a good new tube, the Sovtek 12ax7LPS is very good. At only $11 a tube, they're easy to try out. You'll quickly find out if your old tubes are still good.
  18. I use a PAS 3( I rebuilt myself) with an Dynaco ST70 (modified by NOS VALVES) falong with a pair of Heresy II in my bedroom and it is a wonderful system. I hate to mojo it but it's been totally trouble free fo a couple of years now too. Turn it on, turn it off. I think you'll like the PAS. Hard to find a nice tube preamp in that price range.
  19. Max, I got my specs fom a Linn brochure on the Vinyl Engine here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library_model.php?make=Linn&selected_model=Basik%20LVX It's in French which I imagine you can actually read! I'm figuring Larry has the LVX or LVX+... straight tonearm. The LVV was an S shaped arm, I've never seen one. PS. Larry, per the lore, a wall shelf would be good. They supposedly just don't like those big slabs of granite/marble etc. I had mine on a cheapy little IKEA end table years ago and I swear it sounded better. But it might have been all mental!
  20. If I recall correctly the Linn Basik arm has an apparent mass of between 12.5 and 13.5 grams depending on model. This is perfect match territory for the 103. You could spend a whole lot more money on the cartridge and achieve little benefit - if any. Personally I would be very tempted to stay where you are. What phono stage are you using? That will have an effect on the sonics.. Max, I'm using JM's Blueberry. I like the Denon 103,it sounds even better on the Linn than when it was on the Thorens with the SME.I'll give it some more time before I try another.I may try some different cables first.I have the cheapo's hooked up now.But again, will listen for awhile before I tweak some more. Last night felt like when I first got the Thorens, after using an old Kenwood. But better! Larry The spec sheet I have shows the Basik at 10g, which, on paper could be a good match with the Denon, but not as good as if it were 12 or 13 grams. I definitely would wait to jump into a new cartridge though. Get into to what you got for now. What do you have that Linn sitting on? This sounds stupid but mine did sound best when I had it sitting on a lightweight but sturdy little end table. Legend has it that the Linn's don't sound good on heavy, solid massive style tables or platforms. My current room arrangement doesn't allow for that but I thought I would mention it. Could be BS, but it's easy to try.
  21. Try a Dynavector 10X4 or a Goldring 1042 in that price range. I mean there are probably 100 cartridges that would work, but these are two I have tried and really liked.
  22. Nice to see you've got it going. The LP12 is not as hard to set up or as tweaky as some people led me to believe. I can suggest a cartridge I did have trouble with. I tried a couple of the Grado wood bodies cartridges. Hummed pretty bad as soon as the tonearm was moved over the platter.
