  1. Bedroom HT...uh sorry none. Onla Boston Acoustics iPod dock/radio. To listen to news... Bathroom HT...none. Kitchen "HT" ...32" Sharp Aquos LCD with HD receiver/recorder ,Sony BlueRay player and Klipsch Quintets(original) and Sunfire KS sub and Denon 3802 receiver. Living room ...monster setu, music setup. Small audio room ...world's most capable sealed sub array in a small room and over 2000lbs of gear .
  2. The Rythmik 15" beats the Velodyne SPL1500...nevermind a poor DLS-5000R. Not even a close match,be it sound quality(accurate bass),extension(below 25Hz where the DLS loses steam faster than a punctured steam locomotive) or parts quality. Rythmik's drivers are very close to TC Sounds TC-1000 series drivers, means quality is TOP NOTCH. Plus the servo amp/driver in the Rythmik puts it close to the Velo DD series. Not even a hard choice here, easy GO for Rythmik.
  3. M&K has sharply falling output below 30Hz, the very poor Xmech on the drivers will not allow any M&K subwoofer to be a great match for a large Klipsch speakers...unless serious sub sonic information is not a priority for the user. Not to misunderstand what i say, they are not poor quality,to the contrary M&K subs are well built and use quality parts. Simply they are no contenders in the serious subsonic(below 25Hz) business. And with large mains solid outout(linearity)down to 16Hz is a must in my view.
  4. tigerwoodKhorns, Thank you for the offer, but I have a Bryston 4B and do not use it for sub duty. I have three SimAudio Celeste amps sitting here doing not much so more audiphile amps sitting herewould be a waste in my case. I only use pro amps for sub duty, a QSC PLX2 3602 cam more than match a 7B driving @ 4Ohms load. And a PL380 (3000W per channel into 4Ohms,bridged close to 8KW!) just about matches the most capable monster audiophile amps(like the Krell FPB600 and company). These ampos weigh only 22lbs but they deliver like classic class A/B 150lbs units.
  5. Here are the four QSC PLX2 amps, four more will join. With these plus two PowerLight PL380 I will have ten QSC "lightweight" amps powering all TC Sounds/AudioPulse made drivers. Great amps for the price, for sub duty they kick bottom.
  6. The Royal Device is older than most members here. [] No doubt one of THE most impressive custom subwoofers, and the most costly. How many rearrange thier foundations to build a MASSIVE horn loaded sub with so much displacement...on a world wide level there are a few, very few...subs taht impressive. The Danley Matterhorn is another "subwoofer" that would be in the same league, here even more displacement. In a compact "shipping container" with the amps mounted behind. After..I will have to join with The Sealed Device...[] [] completed it will use 28 sealed modules,14 15" and 14 18" drivers powered by ~50KW.
  7. No subwoofer..."HERETIC BURN HIM"
  8. DigitaDesigns drivers are mainly for SPL competitions, there is where they shine.Max SPL at a given frequency, the world SPL record was set with one DD 15" driver, over 180dB! For HT or audio in a home the Dayton Titanic III 15" is a better choice.
  9. My subs have almost as much displacement as a locomotive engine. Now that is very modest. [] HA HA and I will add more 15's and 18's (more RL-p's,LMS-Ultras,ACoupower and RE XXX's)...yeah I need more.
  10. A great subwoofer driver will remain linear in the Xmax (BL curve here),a great sub driver will add little mechanical noise(all drivers add more or less). A great sub driver will have Xmax of over 20mm and the upper class is in the 30mm one way,the best units range from 38-around 50mm ONE WAY(note displacement is not an indicator of quality, not at all). Quality sub driver often have BL hoovering 15-30. The higher the BL the smaller the optimal box will be.Very low BL ~10 is fine when you look for "free air" or IB drivers. Here the back pressure is equal to the pressure in front of the driver. No need of high BL andpowerful motors. ...have to work now. At work... I am sure more will chime in. I could go on and on for pages but that will be it...work...
  11. Having many large drivers must sound like a ton of fun. Once you have achieved gallons upon gallons of displacement...it gets boring. The ears give up well before any driver/amp related stress shows up. [|-)]
  12. DarkSide, I aint strage, holla at ya playa. [] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_AUP0oA5e4 And... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPIgs-90vuc&feature=related Hilarious
  13. Very good setup,a sub next to each main is pretty much the best solution for most rooms. Where you have no openings on the sides of the subs(speakers).
  14. Cone deformations are public enemy numero UNO now ! [] First of all I should see data backing up your claims Dr Who. No offense but I find the cone deformation of a dish or classic cone on a 18" drivers(~15inch cone) not a main concern. And what audible distortion(s) does it add in the end. That is the question. What is next the smaller driver will be more musical next? [] A subwoofer works up to 80Hz and then can roll off. Even the larger drivers can be quite linear past 150Hz. Only drivers with mass loaded cones may be an issue. The Mach 5 IXL series does not use any mass loading and the moving mass is not great. The BL quite good, you can bet your green cricket they will be flat to beyond the range of even a high crossed sub. And cone breakup...would be a major issue when using the driver in a very small cabinet and where you push the driver very hard. Even then how many pulp composite cones have you seen failing..doe to stress? ZERO This cone is not as ridgid as TC Sounds one of a kind titanium dish cones but far from the flex O matic plyprop cones. There yes I would agree flex(deformation)would be a issue. The Maelstrom-X uese a similar cone, and this driver can be taken thru over 30mm one way(60mm peak to peak) excursion and not fail. Paper composite cones are very stiff, light and durable(humidity and UV are the main enemies). Also the ACOUPOWER drivers use similar cones(paper based),if they would not be stiff or present flex they would use other materials. These are ~$900 each.
  15. Josh, What amuses me is not that other claim 100000 hours,it is the fact even if the sets only lasted 40000 hours before the so called "half" life of the unit...I would not be othered much. I understand those who let the TV run 24/7 would.
  16. Well I have one Sharp Aquos 46"(will be moved to the test, tiny HT) in the main HT right now,to be replaced with the Elite KURO 50",I have a Sharp Aquos 37"in the eating area. I have a Toshiba 26" in another room just to have a TV for the news and other hoopla.Four is enough. =
  17. 30 years of use..yeah RIGHT. Poonasonic hoopla(marketing) to sway the masses. [|-)] In 30 years from now that TV if it still goes will be OBSOLETE.There will be much better way before and cheaper.Like the printing inks that claim 100 years life before visible deterioration takes place(we will all be here in 100 years to verify that...LOL). Even if Poonasonic claims ONE BILLION hours,I am still getting the Pioneer Elite. As in 10000 hours (I watch less TV in 20 years time)I will have a better unit in its place. For any BIG plus they claim to have I can find several reasons why it does not matter.
  18. This section needs a few thread jacks,as the interest quickly drops...as much action as a snail in a 100 meter sprint ![]
  19. What I will say is not biased ! B0$e HT gear belongs in a dumpster back in the lane. The sub par parts quality, gross gaps in the frequency response and Better Sales Thru Marketing Hoopla is aimed at the person who knows very very...little about HT and what makes a great HT come alive. I am polite here If anyone here would offer me a B0$e HT system as a gift I would stomp a mud hole in the Acoustic Me$$ module and poke the Direct Repulsive sat(that have a gross ghole in the midrange,on top of sounding like $150 Logitech PC speakers!!).
  20. The main issue with alu cones, they will not allow any careless mistake...or slip from the user. One bottoming...CLAK ...the dish cone is done, the driver needs a recone. As the ridgid dish structure is no more and the VC is misaligled. GAME OVER Me,I have no issues with alu cones. I use measure and take extra care when using these drivers(I base my use on simulations with various power(output in dB at various frequencies)and use high pass filtering to match the application. Careless user plus alu dish cone driver in a ported cabinet/dipole/IB...CLAK...goodbye joy..hello pain.
  21. JacksonFive...dayum ,that is one great animation ! WOW is it CGI ? Oh Ricci purchased his RE XXX woofa with 99meters of Xmax ! Woohoo...Moves so much air it can be use in place of a fan,can extinguish a fire ! I have to get myself some RE XXXX driva then...mmm woofa. MMM
  22. ~60000 Hours that is almost 7 years 24 hours/day of use ! Who uses a TV 24hours /day ? A business may have it ON 24/7. In a home you can say 14-15 years is what can be expected, that is a long time for any electronic device. A tube monitor after 7 years of non stop use will be severly faded, and will show serious..visible wear. So those crying about "only" 60000 hours should stop smoking weed. [] Tube monitors that are 20 years and still running...yeah great thing, they are so washed and tired a roadkill looks better.
  23. Comparing a grea plasma to a great LCD and the gain in picture quality is clear and so obvious it is scary. Compare the Sharp Aquos top of the line 46" LVS with a non Elite Pioneer ...50" or even the little 42". The natural of the image is striking with even the most basic Pioneer plasma. The LCD displays ..even the best ones have this artificial pixelisation around moving sprites, ojects you call it the way you like it. And the colors are off, have a digital artificial glaze. The finest plasma is like a great projector or outstanding CRT in its black rendition and lack of artifacting. Here the Pioneer Elite KURO line is the top of the mountain, you simply CANNOT buy a better flat panel display than the Pioneer Elite KURO. The Samsung...please not in the same league. The Hitachi, some of the upscale units may be closer, but still not at the level of the best Pioneer has to offer. For an easy way out... Pioneer Elite for plasmas, Sharp Aquos for LCD TV's and NEC MultiSync for high end computer displays. I have the 27" NEC as PC monitor and the image quality is tops, anyone looking for a great PC monitor, the NEC upscale line is a as good as LcCie's(same panels). Lastly burn in is not an issue with today's upscale plasma monitors.Leaking gas...not an issue. Life span of a great plasma...very long, not an issue.
  24. Better yet JL Audio f113... better yet...SVS Ultra-13(a little extra output below 30Hz over the JL)... better yet...Danley DTS-20(yet more output, and from all accounts the best SQ)... Better yet...a wall of subs that can more than keep up with even industrial Klipsch fronts! []
