  1. I am also running a B&K Ref 200.7 feeding my 3 KG 4.5's across the front, and KG 2.5's for rears. They sound like new speakers after adding the amp. Very clean and dynamic sound. Good luck on your quest. John
  2. I am running a Outlaw 950 pre/pro with a B&K 200.7 s2 amp. After listening to a local setup with a 950 and adcom amps I was sold on separates. Why? Sound quality, separation, center stage, and sound stage depth. It is so clear compared to my Denon AVR-3300 (105x5) their is no comparison. I hear things in the background of the music that simply were not there before with the 2 previous Denon AVR's I owned. Expecially in Jazz recordings. Don't get me wrong, I was pretty happy with the sound from the Denon, and was a little worried I wouldn't hear the money difference. It only took about 2 minutes with the separates, and I had no regret. My old Klipsch speakers NEVER sounded this good before. Everything is so alive now. I figure processing changes every few years or so and I can change out the pre/pro and keep the amp for many years to come. I am only running 5 channel currently, but figured I might as well go with a 7 channel amp for future upgrades. I think you will hear the same comment from people here after actually making the change to good quality separates. Enjoy! John
  3. Congrats on the B&K. I picked up the 200.7 S2 a few weeks ago. It is an awesome amp. It will bring your listening experience up to a whole different level. As said above, the clairity, separatoin, and stage is unbeleavable! Enjoy! John
  4. I will log another vote for separates. I have had a couple Denon amps. I just retired the AVR 3300. While I thought the sound was very good, changing to separates is like night and day differenc. The Reference 7's deserve the best you can afford. Good luck in your decission. John
  5. Greetings, You will want to pick up or borrow an SPL meter. Makes one heck of a difference for smoothing out the system. You may also want to double check that you have your other speakers corssed over correctly. Good luck in finding the issue. John
  6. The best match is always the same. A 5.5 is the perfect center. I have 4.5's across the front and the sound is amazing. It's totally seemless across the front stage. John
  7. The only thing that I didn't see covered is, do you have a coffee table between you and the TV? I have a big glass table and always cover it before doing any listening to the system. You might check phase just to be sure everything is correct, if you have made any changes lately. Not that you are not aware of these issues, but it never hurts to ask. good luck John
  8. Basiclly I am looking to improve the sound quality and processing on my current system. Until I move to a different house, I am only looking for 5.1 but will go with 7.1 as to not have to change it out when I move. The reason I got interested in a new amp (Denon 3805) is that I thought that the newer equipment would have a better processor. If that's not the case then I figure I need to up it to seperates. So, could I add an amp 125.7 or something like that and feed it with the pre-outs on the denon. Is that going to improve overall sound quality? Then when I save another 1500 or so adding the dedicated pre to the system. Or vice versa? I know I can only feed 5 channels to a new amp but until I buy a new house I don't need the additional channels. Thanks again for the info/reply. John
  9. I don't think I have multi room capability. Just a or b surround choice. I figure that's for HT vs Music. Any suggestions as to what I should look at if I go seperates? I figure I need a preamp, and 5 channel amp for this right? Any suggestions at to what I should take a look at? Thanks for the reply. John
  10. I guess the question is, will I notice a $1000 difference if I move up to the 3805? If I am willing to spend 1000 to 1500 is there something else I should consider? Oh, and while I am asking so many questions, What would be some suggestions as to some choices I should take a look at. I listen to more music then HT (70/30) but need to keep atleast 5.1. Thanks, John
  11. LOL. That was funny. I got a good laugh. I can relate, I've been there before. John
  12. Yes, the WOW was for the sound . I never realized how far off that KV 2 was compared to the 4.5's. It's amazing how smooth the front end is now. That is definitely what I was missing up there.
  13. WOW! What a difference. Here's the finished product.
  14. They came out easier than I thought . Flat black sounds good to me. I'm staining the cabinet now. I have to come up with a shelf/stand for that heavy thing to go above the RPTV. I took some pics of the progress but havent loaded them to the computer yet. I'll post a pic when it's all done. Thanks for the info Redtop. John
  15. That's exactly how I did it(sitting in a cardboard template). I looked at the pic of yours last night. The horn and port have about 3/8" between them. The horn to edge and port to edge of the box have 1/4" spacing. I really don't have much other choice in the matter unless I put them all in a row, which I wouldn't think to be optimal. I didn't get my sheet of MDF home untill dark so I am going to wait until tomorrow to build the actual motorboard. Did you use vinyl on the front of yours. I thought I read that somewhere when I was researching? John edit: How did you get your grill mounts out of the old piece?
  16. They're here Now I have to figure out the placement of the speakers in the box. Are there any rules as to how I have to do this. I figured on keeping the driver and horn near center, but not sure what to do with the port. I know the horn has to be rotated 90, but besides that? Redtop, any help in this area? John
  17. Hey Redtop, Not a problem. I will be on the lookout for some 4.5's for ya. So, you'll be needing 5 right.. I'm interested to hear how the front end will sound matched up. What's the mod on the 4.5 to "centerize" it? John
  18. Hey redtop Looks like I might have my center huh? I got that pair of 3.5's off ebay a few weeks ago. They sound pretty good. They are just sitting in the boxes at the moment. I feel the need to collect more Klipsch.. he he John
  19. Hoopeston would work for me. I am scheduled to work until 6 on Thursday, but I can probably get off early. IL. time is an hour earlier then here. We'll have to work out the time thing. John
  20. Lafayette IN is due east of Hoopeston IL. about 60 miles. It's north of 74 on 57 as ou head north. John
  21. Sounds interesting. What day are you planning on heading up to Chicago? I live in Lafayette IN. It's kinda close to the IL state line but might not be close to your path of travel. What is your planned travel path? I might be interested in meeting you somewhere along the way depending on the day. John
  22. Deal Let me know your plans so I can prepare. John
  23. Lafayette IN. I saw those last week. Awesome deal but no shipping options. I appreciate the heads up.
  24. I bought a pair of 3.5's last night. I was thinkin(yikes)I need some nice speakers for my bedroom to hook up to my old Denon amp. I'll keep on the look out for a pair of 4.5's, OR another pair of 3.5's to convert the HT room. John
  25. Actually now that I think about it. You probably have another one just laying around waiting to be "chopped" huh? John
