  1. Soundbroker, you said: "There are a number of ways to do it if there isn't any control cabling..." Oh yeah? I'm actually facing that problem now... What options do I have? Any help is appreciated... -Fauzi
  2. Clarence, LOL! I am actually looking for an exporter. Send me a nice Rolex... Any watch, preferably $4000 and up, and I'll try to sell it after 4-6 years. I can pm you my address! Hell, I'll come over and pick it up from you if you like!!! Business-mindedly yours, -Fauzi
  3. Hey Coytee, Got it! Must be nice to not have to worry about flowers! If I just think about how much per year I spend on it... Well, I prefer not to think about it. Dude, just one question: If a new one sells for this much, a waranteed one is certainly worth (significantly) more than your reserve price. I don't know how the market runs over here, but in Pakistan, a used one (this is especially true for a rarer one like your wife's) is worth no less than 80% of the price of a new one. I bought my Rolex Submariner after months and months of thinking about it, and finally bought it in 1999. Since then, at least in Paksitani Rupee terms, it's actually appreciated in value. (Now the rupee itself has depreciated since then, but that's a whole different story. But adding all the debits / credits, I just got an offer a month ago to sell it for more than I paid for it new.) Oh well, good luck selling it. At least she's getting a nice watch to replace it. The Baume Mercier's certainly are beautful!! And hope you reconsider your reserve and end up getting a price that is more worth the watch! Later, Fauzi
  4. Coyotee!! Beautiful watches, especially the Rolex. Would LOVE to buy it, but I just got my wife the full gold, w/o the diamond option on it. Just a question, man. Why are you selling it. I've been dealing in watches, specifically Rolexes (as a hobby, mind you) for the past fifteen years, and it's been my experience that you always regret selling these things. And the way they hold their value... nothing like it. Now if you were sellling it to pre order a Rolex Daytona.... That would be a whole different matter!! What's the market price on that watch with that dial? Fauzi
  5. Hey there, While we're on the topic of center channels, what's a good match for the KG series? Dont wanna spend more than a couple hundred bucks... What if I had an unlimited budget? Just for curiosity's sake? -Fauzi
  6. Indy, I'm actually between Canada and Pakistan a lot these days... And aside from the jetlag and not knowing which side of the world I'm on, it's actually not too bad. But as I was saying, I'm actually in Toronto now at least for the next couple months and should be going to NY sometime this month for a week or so. So if you have any leads, pass em on... I'd be more than happy to chase up on them. Glad to hear you're happy with the projector... All the reviews sound amazing on it. What price range did you get it for? -Fauzi
  7. Hey there, Indy... I just saw that you have the InFocus 7210... was considering that projector for my HT. Any advice for me? Any ideas on where to get a good deal? -Fauzi
  8. Hey all! Living in Pakistan for most of the year really limits / restricts the desire to tweak / improve / fidget with your audio setup because most of the thing that you require to do so are just not available. So now that I'm in Canada for a few months, I was wondering about a couple of things that I needed... So before I pull the trigger, I needed some information. First of all, what's a good center that matches the KHorns and that is not that expensive... I'm currently running a KEF Reference center which does a good job... But I'm sure that a matching Klipsch would be nicer. Secondly, I'm looking at an SPL meter to buy. There is no Radio Shack in Canada anymore (sniff!) The closest thing is a store called The Source by Circuit City, and they don't seem to carry it anymore. Radio Shack online doesn't have it. Any suggestions for means of getting it or alternatives that are equally inexpensive? Amazon has a few that they ship that are slightly different but close to the $50 price range. Finally, I've heard some discussion of the Aiwa (?) cd that can be used to calibrate a system. Where can I get that online? Sorry people, I know that these questions have all been asked before... but the search function still seems to be down... Any help is highly appreciated!!! Thanks, -Fauzi
  9. Hey all, I'm completely new to HDMI technology. I have an old Toshiba rear projection 62". It's digital.... Can I feed a KDMI signal into it? I don't have HD cable in Pakistan, but I was wondering (if there is a way to feed my monitor a HD signal) if it'll make a quality difference while, say watching dvd'. Your help, as always, is appreciated. Regards, -Fauzi
  10. My God, Allan, Thanks so much. I'm gonna go ahead and follow every single link that you put together and give you an update as to what I finally orderd BTW, that's amazing of you to go through and take the time out to put together a list with links in it. It's really nice to know that someone would take that much time out for a stranger.... You rock! Regards, Fauzi
  11. jacksonbart, That's the great thing about a gift certificate! You print it out, light a cigar with it... and still have 200 bucks to spend! Thanks to both of you!! This is great... you do a search on the cd's, download previews... listen and see if you like it... all before buying them. Keep 'em coming... need to order soon... Thanks! -Fauzi
  12. Hi there, We just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary, and my wife just gave me a $200 certificate to buy all the music that I want from Amazon.com!!! Love her for that! So I've been trying to get a jazz collection going for the past couple of years, reading posts that people like Allan Songer following their advice. Thus far, the few musicians that I've bought (just to name a few), Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong, Buck Clayton, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck... The above are the ones that I really like. So I hope this gives you an idea of the sort of music I'm looking for. I wanted some advice on how to spend my money. A couple that I know that I want are: Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, and John Coltrane / Thelonious Monk Live at Carnegie Hall or Coltrane's The Ultimate Blue Train. People, please help out. I do want to include some Funky / Acid Jazz that's always fun. Like the New Orleans Nightcrawlers, or the like. But only say about 20%. I figure at an average of 12-15 bucks a cd, i can buy about 10-12 and have some money left over for either a couple of books or (more likely a couple dvd's. Suggestions anyone? Any help would be highly appreciated... Regards, Fauzi
  13. ironwoods! Shirley you pull my leg!! I meant 200 ft not as the crow flies, but as the errr... wire rolls! Otherwise it's not more than 80 to 90 ft. But taking wires through rooms and doorways, it'll take a good 200 ft of wire to get there. But yes, the idea of a nice big house is quite appealing! And to answer your question, yes, it's mainly for music... However, if I understand it correctly, that's kind of irrelevant, correct? If you can somehow send music signal wirelessly to the amp in the living room whether it's a stereo signal (L / R) or a distributed ProLogic signal to say 5 amps... it's the same principle, right? Thanks for any help you can give me! -Fauzi
  14. Hi there, I am (read: my wife is) sick and tired of wires all over the house. Now I need to run a second zone in my Living Room from my pre / pro, based in my bedroom theater, some 200 feet away on the other end of my house. Are there any wireless solutions that you know of that would allow this? I have all the hardware (amps, sources, etc) that I need in both places. I don't know if this is enough details to get an answer, but I'm available for more answers should the need arise. -Fauzi
  15. Just a quick thought, Erik... Have you written to Lexicon about that? It's been my experience that Harman companies are quite quick to respond to issues like that. My apologies if you have mentioned this in your earlier posts already... -Fauzi PS: Dubai Rocks!
  16. Shawn, I waited for a bit to make sure to get the v2. So it comes with the mic calibration capability and LIVE!, which I haven't messed around with yet, but I'm going to soon. Yes, I did try Logic 7 Music, and, frankly, was not very happy. So far, it's been kind of a rushed evaluation, so I've only plugged in one cd, and not a very good one at that. Also, it was plugged in on my Denon DVD player, because my CD player is plugged into the analog inputs, and I wanted to mess in the digital domain. But watched a couple of movies in L7 Film, and was blown away. I'm going to slowly try all the different modes and mess around with the settings, so trust me, I will bug you a ton. Erik, the MC-8 is the little brother of the MC-12, which is the grandfather of the MC-1, which is the next generation of the DC-1! It's a little incestuous family line they have going, but a robust line of products! Will definitely look into the problem that you have outlined, and see what I can come up with. Shawn, one quick question. I am pretty sure that in one of your posts, you had mentioned the automatic mic calibration. Does any set of 4 mics work, or do they have to be the Lexicon mics? I really want to start messing around with LIVE! and the automatic calibration. The other question is this: I have tried a ton of processors and messed around with them to quite an extent, and the first thing that hit me while watching the first movie that I use as a reference... The MC-8 seems "effortless" in steering sounds all over. Everything feels a tad smoother than with other processors. I'm sure that this is not just my imagination, because I've really paid a lot of attention and actually noted down my observations in ways that would relay what I was hearing during my evaluation of other processors. What is the cause of this? More questions later to you all! Thanks once again people! Excitedly, I'm going to sign off for now! -Fauzi
  17. Hello All! It's been ages since I've posted here, but I have certainly been following the posts very closely. However, I just wanted to throw out a HUGE vote of thanks to all of you, especially Shawn. I finally (after months and months and months of contemplating, reading, studying) bought the Lexicon MC-8 pre/pro. Shawn was nice enough to give me a few leads that might enable me to get a good deal on the product. Even though I didn't end up using the leads that Shawn gave [], i ended up getting a really good deal on it. The funny thing was, i was looking for deals all over the world on this unit, and it turns out that my first cousins in Dubai are agents for Lexicon. Sweeeeet. So more on this later on, but I just had a chance to plug it in a couple of nights ago, and spent a lot of time messing around with it. I could go on and on and on about how amazing it was, but that was almost a foregone conclusion. What was amazing was how apparent the change was compared to the processor I was using previously. And I haven't even had a chance to really screw around with the settings yet. So I'm running my Khorns as the fronts and the KG's as sides, and have been amazed for the past few nights about what I've been missing in HT / multi channel music. So people, rest assured I shall be bugging you over and over about how to optimize settings for this product. Thanks once again, people... -Fauzi
  18. Thanks for the reply, djk. About what would a pair cost me? I'll figure the freight out myself. What's bob's forum id? -Fauzi
  19. Hello All, Just wondering about something. I pulled out this pair for use in my HT after a few years. For some reason the right channel's tweeter doesn't seem to work. Actually, let me correct that. The sound from the right speaker is very boomy / bassy and very little highs coming from there. I pulled off the grill and put my ear to the tweeter, and from the best of my ability, it seems like no sound is coming from there. All I have done so far is re attach the cable behind the speaker, and that did nothing. I haven't had time to try the wires connecting to the amp (switching them, putting the right channel in Speaker B, etc.) I just panicked and wrote to you guys. I don't know if this means anything about the frequency, but both the meters (R and L) on my Mcintosh Integrated show the same levels. Will mess around more with it after work. Meantime, if you can think of anything, please let me know. Fauzi
  20. Hey there, The choices that you've listed are no doubt good. Especially the Rotel because I used it for quite a while before giving it back to the dealer at a slight loss. My sincere suggestion is to increase your budget and wait a while and then delve into something that'll give you a great upgrade path for the future. Like the Lexicon MC-12 or MC-8, or the Meridien 568.2. Both these are worth looking into and can be had new starting just over 5k. So yes, the budget is put out of whack, but if it's at all possible to increase the budget, even at a later stage, then do it. That's what I've been doing, saving up for the stupid MC-8, and one of these days I'll actually pick one up. In the meantime, I'm making do with an old Marantz pre-pro. Later, -F
  21. Shawn and others, That's it! I need a Lexicon. It's been about 5 months since I've been trying to get a darn MC-8 (I figure that to be the model that meets my needs the best and has the best upgrade path out there) but the best price I can find is to the tune of 5,500 Canadian dollars (translates to about 4500) and that's for a slightly damaged box (the unit itself is just fine and guaranteed /warranted like a new piece). Tried the local agent in Toronto and got this price from them. Any other ideas on getting a better price or should I just jump? Some help please. -Fauzi
  22. Hey there! For the past few months, I've been eyeing Lexicon's MC-8 (well, drooling over is more accurate!!), trying to find a good deal to set up my 2nd system for movies / multichannel music. The reviews I read and the feedback I get from people that have owned any Lexcion receivers is outstanding. Especially regarding the Logic7 feature. Now I find that all recent Harman Kardon AV receivers come with Logic7 standard. NOw I realize that Harman Corp owns both Lexicon and HK, so I figure that it's possible, but are all the features of the HK's similar to the Lexicons? I don't know the prices of the HK's but I would imagine that they would be significantly less than the Lexicons. Why would Harman do that? If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know, so that I can stop thinking about spending so much on a Lexicon, and go out and get the HK instead. Thanks, Fauzi
  23. Hey there, Can you get the Tripath based 15wpc amp in Canada? Circuit City doesn't have it, at least not the ones near my place. I know I can get it online, but I'm wondering if I can walk in and pick it up at some store. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thanks, -F
  24. Hi there, I ran the 400 ix for a little while with my KHorns. Frankly, the amp looks a lot better than it sounds. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful amp, but I didn't find it a good match for my speakers. A little on the brighter side. Having said that, the sleek looks of the amp have a lot going for it. Sure looks good in the cabinet, and mine came with the "credit card" remote which is pretty cool on its own. -F

A couple of questions though. Firstly, did you have any issues with the volume pot? Mine keeps acting up with static every now and then. The other question is, can I connect a turntable to it without any TT pre amp or any other thing like that? -F
