  1. my nad t163 has; dd(only used for non dts encoded dvd's) prologic/II (used on some older cd's) dts, movie/music ( used with the analogue inputs for most tv viewing, this eliminates the constant switching between dd/non dd during commercials and does a great job with all signals. even on a hi-def channel broadcast in dd5.1 i think the dts sounds better.) and if your set up is 5.1 switch the "ex" to off jay
  2. ok... so i moved the speakers around today and spent about 8 hrs watching movies, listening to music, ect ,ect i dont like it?? its like the bass got???? bigger, not better, and the rest of the system sounded the same??? the rear 4 channels needed a 4 db boost to keep up and i dont know if i like that. it was kinda like watching up hill also when the cornwalls were up that high the horns were at the same level as a 95x46 inch window and it was weird in the top end (more reflections??) so im back to square one!! jay
  3. what nad and how much?? give me a good price and ill tell you what your other stuff is worth jay

  5. a foot from the back wall is no problem but they have to be all the way against the side walls, unless i build a unit to set the cornwalls on, they have to be up against the side walls to not block the front lower corners of my screen jay
  6. ok im getting ready to move the speakers around some and was wondering ,when moving the subs (front fireing) into the corners should i put them square with the corners of the room , or tip them in the same amount as the cornwalls that will sit on top of the subs?? after reading some of the other posters here im now worried about stuff i didnt know about before, like standing waves and bass voids, ect, ect!! thanks jay

  8. some manufactures call it "potting" as in the component is "fully potted" i race cars and use a potted ignition box from jacobs electronics there is a more popular brand that lots of guys use( more rpm potential, but i digress) they are not potted and have a much higher failure rate, some guys even keep a spare in the tool box!! the jacobs that i have is 8 years old and the users of the other brand cant beleive it jay

I just paid $900 for Yamaha RXV2400 to have 6.1, 7.1 etc and hardly have any source material, so I'm mostly just punching buttons, trying to find the mode that sounds 'best'. Usually a DTS... mode since EX and ES are too durn complicated. Michael- sick of all the technology. Can't we just listen to music again... ---------------- in the set up menue you should be able to auto detect the surround mode. also you should be able to set the processor to "force" the 6 or 7.1 out of the incomeing signal. i agree with you that the dts does sound better when watching tv/cable. and have set my rig to ignore the dolby sig on these inputs. the only time i use dd is on some dvd's jay

I asked about photoshop because the lighting looks a bit otherworldly. Looks like a ND filter or somthing over the top of the Corns and the subs looks a bit sterile (guess mine are junkers)No offense intended. BTW, what is the finish and grill on your Corns? I'm looking for that look for my 1950's LR. Thanks, Michael ---------------- none taken. i held my hand over the flash in an attempt to keep the screen from getting washed out by it.also the room is tuff to photograph because its so light absorbing(black carpet/black crushed velevet walls and dark blue paint on the ceiling) even with 5, 75 watt halogen can lights its pretty dark in there!! but it makes for a great ht room the corns are 77's oiled walnut w/ cane grills, last time i checked the cane was still available from the parts dept. i regrilled my hereseys when i got them jay
  12. so the answer would be to upgrade to a sacd player and use the 7.1 analogue input?? and thanks minn male42 for clearing that up. i guess i should know more about my own equipment before i ask the question!! jay
  13. nad t163 pre/pro, nad 5170 cd with digital outs jay
  14. you should still be able to get the grill cloth from the klipsch parts dept. i purchace a roll of the cane cloth a few wears back and it was reasonably priced and factory original jay
  15. my pre/pro has all the software, and high quality dacs to do the d/a conversion of these formats. can i use my currant cv player, if i use the digital out, and use it for transport only? or do i need to get a sacd/hdcd compatable player? thanks jay
  16. when you upgrade from the sony, just make sure that you get something that is software upgradeable and hardware upgradeable. i picked up an NAD T 163 last october and they now have a v2? chip upgrade and a software upgrade. the software upgrade can be done over the net but if i take it in NAD will do the v2 chipset at no charge this chip set does the new dts and dd stuff your talking about jay

Something about magnets and massive amounts of vibrations probably not being good for CD/DVD transports to say nothing of cassette or VHS tapes. I'd keep speakers as is and put electronics on separate rack to one side or other. Looks great, nice artists rendering.Photoshop??? Michael ---------------- all of the electronics at the front end of the room are amps for the front 5 channels, and i have them vibration damped from the floor. photoshop??? no its a pic of the ht room as it sits now. if i build the wall unit the amps would come up off the floor tho jay

TV without protection??? it's like it needs a disclaimer...... jay
  21. dude!!! im glad that someone here had the intestinal fortitude to post the actual system thats in the ht room!!!! unlike some others here that scan in a pic from "better homes, and gardens" and call it their own!!!! got stones!!! he does!! j/k jay
  22. i am thinking of building a wall unit to hold all of my cd's/dvd's ect that will go under my screen. i want to also mount the center in this unit. in order to do this i would have to move the subs out under the cornwalls. this puts the voice coil of the center horn at 32 inchs off the floor, and the voice coil of the mid horn of the cornwalls at 50 inches off the floor. does anyone see anything wrong with this set up or should i turn the motor boards upside down in the cornwalls to more even out the horn sections with the center channel. thanks jay

  24. blow out the cane with compressed air this will remove all dry dust, lint, ect i have over the years had to remove pop, beer and of all things milk from my cornwall grills all i used was warm water with a few drops of dawn dishwashing liquid, and a soft white cotton towel. after a light scrub i the air dried the cane with compressed air this prevents any water spotting i would not recomend this warm water wash unless you blow out the cane first if you get it wet with all the dust and stuff still in the grill it will stain for sure i found out the hard way on my heresys lucky for me they still had the cane cloth in stock so i just regrilled them jay
  25. now that ive been bitten by the ht bug, and haveing reconfigured the system into the ht room im left with an excess of high quality audioquest speaker cable. i have enough to rewire the motor leads in my cornwalls!! the only issue i can see is that the cable is almost one inch in diameter any draw backs that you guys see?? any and all comments welcomed thanks in advance jay
