  1. I had the speakers, a dedicated room and time to mess with different configurations. To me I found 6.1 an interesting novelty, I liked it but was not quite sure how I would warm up to it long term. At times it was too "noticeable" or distracting. When I went from 6.1 to 7.1 it was a major improvement. Not quite a stunning as Dolby Pro Logic to 5.1 jump, but a huge improvement in my opinion. The best I had heard in my room to date. Maybe is it pre/pro dependent, I don't know. But my possessor converts older DVDs to 7.1 even if they are not encoded that way. Movies I have watched several times in 5.1 sound better. As for the discs that are set up to take advantage right out of the box (LOTR Extended DTS editions come to mind) the difference is simply night and day. All my amps are two channel so it is easy for me to kill the surround backs with the flip of a switch. Every once in a while I think there can't be that much of a difference and I will switch the back two off. You really notice it when it is missing not so much that you are overwhelmed when it is there. That tells me that is is a good change. It is adding to the experience not changing it artificially if that makes any sense.
  2. Oh man...it is right on the tip of my tongue. It is a Who song or perhaps a solo Pete number. At any rate it is a later song from the likes of Face Dances, Who are you or if solo Empty Glass. Must spit it out. Am I close? On the right track???
  3. Yea SBW let us know what you think. I wold be interested to hear another take on Gary's vinyl rig. To me it is simply amazing. I have never heard anything so clear, crisp, transparent or detailed. Every time I got to Gary's house I come home with "gear envy" While I don't think I have a collection of crap there is a whole world of difference between his set up and mine. How about those Cornwalls? While I am in the minority on the Cornwall sound here on the forum; you simply cannot find a nicer finish on any Klipsch speaker then those original Zebra woods. Amazing!
  4. SBW, glad a forum member snagged that little girl from GaryMD. That was quite a drive for a single adoption. I think we are now step parents some how strangely linked to each other. I have the twin of yours. They were a sequentially numbered pair. Just a tad of TLC in the finish department and perhaps a network upgrade/refresh and she will be better then new. We will have to agree that if either of us fall on hard times and must liquidate our speaker collection to give the other person first crack at it so the pair can come back together. Or perhaps the two of them could get together on every other weekend and holidays for visits. That has to be a great sounding set up...nice job!
  5. Just a guess...but first post, joined the forum the day after he posts the auction, getting rid of Klipsch speakers. I don't think he will be back to post about speakers/gear or lend a helping hand to others. I bet he is just getting the word out.
  6. Hey Bookman, Glad the Chorus survived the trip home. I really enjoyed meeting you and talking with you and your wife. I did not realize you were putting a Chorus in the surround back position as well. You now have the exact same set up I had for several months before I found that Belle for my center. Khorn/Chorus/Khorn up front and Heresy/Chorus/Heresy in back, right??? I think you made a big improvement especially in your surrounds. I really like my Heresy surrounds. Are they floor mounted, on stands at ear level or wall mounted? I thought the Chorus was a superb center. The dialogue was crisp and clear, well anchored for movies in the center of the screen and no timbre issues that I could detect. Having that Chorus in the rear with the glass top on it functioned as a small table behind our seats as an added bonus. I have posted a few times that I have not gotten used to the Belle in the center yet. I have a few things to try like raising the belle or lowering the screen along with updating the crossovers. I know the Belle should be the more perfect match, but I still have not warmed up to it yet. Currently it is just too forward or obvious. It seems to draw your attention to the speaker below the screen rather then to the person talking in the scene. I am hoping DeanGs super AAs in my front trio will fix that over the current older AK2s in the khorns along with an ancient, rusted, dusty, miserable looking AA in the Belle. I cant wait for them to arrive. Thanks again for stopping by and glad you are enjoying the Chorus, Rich P.S. did you try the Chorus at all as two channel speakers with your vinyl rig or did they go straight to the theater?
  7. Great questions and great info so far. The only thing I could add from my personal experience would be don't think about any other center besides the Academy (assuming you don't want or can't fit another forte). I have had Forte IIs since day one brand new in box. Used two other centers and was never happy. The academy is a victim of supply and demand...but don't let that deter you. Seems like in the last few months they have been just a bit on the lower priced side. Scoop one up and don't look back. The are worth every penny.
  8. So I met another forum member on Saturday and managed to free up some cash for future purchases. I sold my beloved Chorus speakers to Bookman, the transaction could not have gone better. I would not hesitate to do business with him again. A nice guy and fun to talk to. We chatted a bit about home theater, Jazz, listened to some Helen Merrill, Dave Brubeck and threw in a Concert DVD to check out my home theater set up. As a bonus "Mrs. Bookman" came along. It is not that often that wives/significant others of forum members make the trek. Now for a twilight zone moment. He originally contacted me saying his name was Gary he had khorns and lived in the same city as GaryMD. Naturally I thought it was GaryMD playing a trick on me. I am sure glad I did not delete that email. Small world...I would not want to paint it. Bookman is fairly new on the forum. I believe he has been lurking/reading a lot but not posting too much. If you see him in the HT forum or elsewhere, be sure and say "Hi".
  9. Yes, Excellent! no homework for you this weekend! And I was just shutting down my computer...now I won't have to wonder all the way home. Have a great weekend, Rich
  10. Final hint till I find another computer: The song is about "Rude Boys" in Jamaica also know as Rudies. More lyrics you ask: I went to the market To realize my soul Cause what I need I just dont have it First they curse Then they press me til I hurt We say... *Title of Song Goes Here* Everyone's homework for the weekend is to go out and buy the album London Calling by The Clash. This song is on it and simply must be listened to at least once a week until you die.
  11. I better give you a hint before I head out and away from the computer for a while.... The band is a London foursome inducted into the RnR hall of fame in 2003. Not good enough you say...how about some more lyrics. So we reply I know that my life make you nervous But I tell you that I can't live in service Like the doctor who was born for a purpose EDIT: Olorin, I see you are on the board right now...I had you pegged as an anti-establishment kind of guy...I thought you would be all over this one.
  12. I see...never been much for reading the manual or the rules...but this is fun. BTW, I got it right. Here ya go: How you get a rude and a reckless? Don't you be so crude and a feckless You been drinking booze for breakfast Name that tune!
  13. The boss - Jungleland I like the "local cops cherry tops" line in that song. EDIT: Hellooooooo, am I right...pretty sure that I am...don't want to jump in late in the game and break any rules...can I go now or do I have to wait for the poster to tell me I am right?
  14. Post some pix, let us know where you are from, let us know what you might want to get out of them and you might sell them right here. I an not very sure but off the top of my head I am thinking $150-400 depending on condition, finish (wood veneer type) , how badly the other party want them and how close of a drive you are to the buyer.
  15. I think the others are totally on the mark here. I have noticed a general decline in prices for things I know the rough value for. Typically these are things I own or want like; Scott receivers, MK IIIs, Academies/Chorus/Forte/La scaring, Basis TT, etc. About the only prices I see going up are for good quality vinyl LPs. Maybe it is the fact that gas prices are way up and winter heating costs are scaring everybody. Eventually you have to see a decline in DI that people have available to part with.
  16. Hey Dean, I tried to call you at the work number you gave me yesterday and never got an answer or voice mail. Today I have tired to call 3 times and I get a recording saying the extension is invalid. I have double checked the number...pretty sure I am dialing it right. I sent you an email yesterday asking you to go ahead with the three networks along with the better caps. I know you hate email or at the least have an aversion to responding [] I just wanted to follow up with a phone call and make sure there are not any other details before I drop the check in the mail. Give me a call back at the numbers you have for me when you have a spare minute. Thanks a ton, Rich
  17. Wow, my bad. California...Carolina they are both coastal states[:$] Time for me to work on my reading and comprehension skills.
  18. Man Craig, that was the longest scrolling of my life. You had me wondering!
  19. $5 bucks per screw, but I get the Dewault gun on the return trip with the amp. That is my final offer. So how does the Scott look? Sorry to hear about the other guys EICO. EDIT, we must have been writing at the same time. I can wait...I have a sliding glass door to fix.
  20. Oh do tell...I am on the edge of my seat. I already have one person who wants to use it when we are done to send you more work. Hmmmm, maybe there is a future in this for me. I drum you up more business with my bullet proof anchor, er box. That is assuming it is not slivers of wood and chunks of foam. So???????
  21. 4:30PM and UPS site says it is still out for delivery. Craig if it shows up today let me know how it survived.
  22. Agree, how lazy do you have to be to NOT rotate your pictures before posting your auction? Clean them up, take decent pix and make a couple of hundred more on the sale...not a tough concept.
  23. I remember seeing a pretty beat up pair on ebay a couple of times for 1000. I think they eventually did sell. That was the cheapest I remember on ebay. I did a lot of looking before I got mine. See post above from GaryMD. Ours were 1400 for the pair within driving distance. Not perfect, but better then yours, at least what I can tell from the pix. Location obviously has a lot to do with it because shipping such a large thing can run you 200-300 if it is cost to cost. I was pretty close to pulling the trigger on a fantastic looking pair at $1700. I though it was a great price for such a nice pair, but the shipping from K.C. made it close to 2K and I just decided to wait for a local pair to avoid any shipping problems. Others I considered were in nice shape in the 2000-2500 range. Yes you can get khorns for that, but in my experience for some reason the Belle commands the same or more then Khorns. If you are just in it for the money and have some time I bet sanding and oiling them would be your best bet. Then sell them as singles because people want them for khorn home theaters as well as centers for larger 2 channel set ups. Lucky for me I was able to split a pair. I know I would have probably spent 1K for a single in the same condition as my 1400 pair because it would have been over with. No reselling and shipping issues with the remaining one. As is I think Thump's post of 1300-1500 is in the ball park.
  24. If I remember correctly these typically go for 1400 or more. Split LaScala in SoCal. Pick up only. No connection with buyer etc. etc. just passing on what looks to be a decen deal...they are a bit on the ugly side. http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-INDUSTRIAL-LASCALA-PR_W0QQitemZ5822570971QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  25. I don't really have an answer to your questions but here is a comment or two. I don't watch the number too closely, but it believe the number that shows up under you avatar is just your current total. That is if you go back and look at your very first post from the day you joined it will have the same number as your last post. I don't know how they are counted; starting a thread versus replying to one. Does that help at all?
