  1. My klipsch year may or may not seem that spectacular. All I was able to do was move into a home where I could pull my Fortes and Nak back out of storage so I could listen again. In 2005, I'm planning on converting it to a HT setup. Should be very exciting.
  2. great question. i'm very interested in the answer to this question. where oh where does santa hide the elves that make and reindeer that deliver these tubes amps? and allow a person to listen to klipsch speakers powered by tube amps? some pretty special elves?
  3. I don't really know that this will work, but I read your e-mail to my wife and she reminded me that the way to get melted candle wax off of a candle stick is to stick it in the freezer. Crayola not much different. Can you put your grille in the freezer? Probably wouldn't hurt it.
  4. You had 3,850 posts before you bought your first pair of klipsch? oh my God!!! huh? you gotta be kiddn me.
  5. Makes you wonder about how his rating as a seller can be 100%? Can't be right.
  6. Mike: i see you've got the sunfire sub. how do you like it? did you consider others? George
  7. anybody have any suggests on where to go to listen to tube amp equipment and klipsch speakers in Austin, Texas? or Houston
  8. Don't know who peterandlynn are, but lipinski on this forum is george8051 on ebay. i had the high bid with 30 seconds to go at $595 with $606 as my maximum. i lost out. sucks. last week somebody put a "buy it now" price on another academy of $500 and it was bought a 5:00 am before I had a chance to see it. Seems like they'll easily fetch $600, there were 3 bidders going that high a few hours ago. rplace. let me know if you change your mind. i'm still a buyer.
  9. huh. very interesting thread. Message to the Moderators: as an individual with a significant future purchase in mind and a loyal owner of a pair of Forte's for 15 years, I have to say that I'm very disappointed in the fact that my only choice that I have to get local representation about Klipsch products is Ultimate Electronics. ick. I went there saying that I wanted to build a home theater incorporating my forte's as the mains. The 20 somethin' year old new very little about forte's. was very willing to sell me whatever reference line speaker that I could afford. He was willing to make the recommendation that the reference line speakers "were a good match". Their answer regarding anything from the heritage line is that "they can get them". They don't even have gd heritage speaker for me to listen to. I offered to carry my forte's to the showroom to listen to them with the refernces, but all in all. This is a lousy situation. Since then I've spent untold hours reading hundreds of threads coming to the conclusion that I need to find an Academy to buy from ebay and trying continuing to read/study/investigate what speakers to buy for surrounds and rears. However, I don't think I'm going to get a hell of a lot of help from Ultimate. I'm find significantly more sound advice from this forum. When I bought my Forte's (in Austin, Texas) there was a locally owned shop in business named, Hi Fidelity. Sadly, they went out of business; and that's the real problem here. This is the background behind me having to admit that I was seriously considering buying Klipsch products from ebay. Not just the Academy, but reference bookshelf speakers for other rooms. Because as others have said, with speakers; foregoing the warranty is a real possibility. If you're not getting sound advice from the local dealers; what are you getting? I'm can imagine Klipsch having a program to find the best dealers they can. However, many have the dilema of living in a town without a hi end retailer. Ultimate Electronics is not a substitute for one IMO. On the other hand, Klipsch could work to get the heritage line into UE; train all those folks; and maybe the situation would be better. nah.
  10. Very interesting thread. As a newbie to this forum, I am amazed at the quality of information coming from a dedicated group of really good folks. I've learned a bus load reading a couple hundred threads in the last two or three weeks. It really struck me in this thread just how much a group of people are willing to provide very useful, hard to find advice. Each of the members of this forum get a sincere thank you.
  11. Decision seems driven by: 1. personal opinion about the pictures. 2. room geometry decisions. IMO the dlp sets now out fit my situation. Mostly because the picture quality seems amazing to me combined with the issues previously discussed about the plasmas.
  12. Thanks. Nobody else from the forum seems to be popping up as a bidder. So, hopefully the bidding won't get to terribly high.
  13. yeah, you say that now after slurpin' up the late nite "buy it now" deal. I spent the last 3 nights checkin'ebay at least 20 times a night. Hah. Congradulations on pickin'off that one. Hopefully I get the other one Saturday night. Anyone else on this forum planning on bidding on the other?
  14. 3 days, 2 hours and i'm afraid bidding will get pretty steep. 11 bids from about 6 or 7 bidders so far. it'll probably cost me $600 bucks i'm afraid. did somebody on this forum pick up the one that showed up last night with the Buy It Now feature? it was my anniversary last night and my wife and I were out having a nice dinner. I never even had a chance to see it available.
  15. Hallwalker: I just read the stereophile article you suggested. Good read. very helpful. Thanks!
  16. Interesting thread. I've been wondering about the same issues. Aren't these units almost entirely for providing clean power and protection. and not real recognizable audio quality?

  18. wow! thanks for the pics. where did you find 'em? quite an addition to any system.
  19. well, the speaker on ebay is black which matches the finish on my forte IIs. seems like we ought to avoid a bidding war against each other. but, hey that's what ebay's all about. i really appreciate the input from everyone. i'm still wondering about a timbre match and smaller than forte's for surround speakers? anybody got any good advise? especially some poor match experience.
  20. i've been lookin' to upgrade and my only real choice in Austin Texas seems to be Ultimate. This string gives me the heebies. I bought my two channel system from a great store in the late eighties, Hi Fidelity. It went out of business a year or so ago, and we're left with, you guessed it Ultimate as one of the few places to buy Klipsch equipment. Well, there Best Buy. nuf said. The youngster at Ultimate seems diligent, but this string isn't good.
  21. Wow. I just check out this whole string. What a project. What patience. I'm in awe. See the string and your project started in August. Finish those babies off and enjoy.
  22. be patient and wait for heritage or classic line on ebay. the heresy suggest is probably your best bet with your budget. you'll be oh so much happier about your investment.
  23. The Klipsch website still shows pictures and specs of the tangent line. Part of the Classic series which Forte's come from. Line of two way floor standing and bookshelfs. Look pretty sweet.
  24. the one that just popped up on ebay has the black finish. my forte's have the same finish. it also looks to be in perfect condition. so, i intend to scarf it up. by the way, what should be the top end that I pay for it? If bidding gets above $600, should pay more? I have no idea what too much is?
  25. For the man who has everything. Only thing this room needs is strippers.
