  1. artto. I got yu and I do enjoy other tubes , would also like to try kt-90's But I'm looking for a mtching pair to the pair I allready have. They are blue Golden Dragon Brand KT-88's And I can't seem to find those , yes I find others but I was looking for a match to these. (that I allready bought off ebay) Don't even seem to find regular Golden Dragon KT-88's let alone any blue ones, I'd take standard dragons or blue! Maybe I didn't state my original post good enough but I allready have the pair of blue Golden Dragon KT-88's That I won in the auction now I'm looking for a matching pair. If anyone could help, much appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Having both 2 channel and multi in the same room I can say I do enjoy a well laid out and recorded surround mix. I love my 2 channel also, not sure which I like better but as dodger seems to put it, would be nice to have the music we want on the format we like. Pretty cheezy to only be on dvd. At least dvd-a and sacd have stereo though. (but then again you do need another player) Agreed also to put together a nice multichannel setup can get very expensive to do it well. I'm running 7.1 all tube amped and all pretty much full range speakers. (Quite pricey) No I don't listen to stereo recorded music in multi, only multi in multi. But for the most part all the multichannel recordings I have also have a stereo track so you can listen to the one you want. If you get creative you can have a nice 2 channel and multi in the same room. The other thing I believe though to do multi any justice you need a decent size room! Much bigger than needed for 2 channel. I've walled off half my basement for my setup. But I wanted a nice movie room too! Really it boils down to, do you want to make the room and spend the extra cash that it takes to make multichannel worthwhile. Meaning that if you don't have the room or make the room plus spend what it takes to do multi right then no it's not worth what it's all cracked up to be. But when setup right in a nice size room can be quite an experience. Sorry if my post is misguided but felt the need to let others know my thoughts and my own experience! Take care.
  3. Any idea where you may still find some for sale? new or used!
  4. yes the price is what got me the tubes, I just threw a couple bucks at a bunch of tubes to see what I'd win. I like to experiment with tubes and the cheap way to do it is used. I test em all first then put them in a little test amp I have that I really don't care about to make sure there good! so far so good! but I would like to try and mate these up! Anyone with any ideas?
  5. Anybody know if these tubes are what they say they are? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5722799256 If they are or not, anyone know where I may find a second pair? I've allready got these but looking for 2 more to use them in my amp, preferably the blue ones. But would the usual clear ones match and if so where to find? Much appreciated for any and all help on this!
  6. allright parts are ordered thanks guy's. $205 shipped second day!
  7. I'm sure it's just me and I'm blind but what would this # for parts be to call and order one? Thanks guy's for any and all info!
  8. would anyone know (including klipsch themselves) how to get an rc-7 horn and tweeter/driver? Can you order those from klipsch or would someone maybe have one they are looking to sell?
  9. I picked up those same caps from ebay also, was very happy with the price and performance. I'll have to find the sellar's name again! Nice work you guy's have done hear. very nice indead! I was wondering though if you guy's had considered doing external xovers as most of my mods lately have been that way. (makes it much easier for tweaking "if you want") Is it the looks or some other reason? Just curious!
  10. Well that is something completly different! If your watching a movie and you selected 5.1 from the audio menu on the dvd and your plugged into the reciever through the digital cable, .1 sub light should come on. But if your putting in a 2 channel source the sub light should not come on. because your not supplying the recievewr a sub channel, the sub channel is being made by extracting low bass freq from your front channels. Why it will not come on with a movie that has a .1 track and you've selected it I have no idea but it should'nt come on from a 2 channel source!
  11. everything is working the way it suppose to work! when you play cd's you don't have a subwoofer (.1) track! so the light will not be lit! Then you set your mains to small with sub on! Adjust the xover freq to what you want and your done! to get the sub light to come on you have to send the reciever a .1/suwoofer signal like from a movie or dvd audio that has a subwoofer track! The reason it comes on and you get sound when you test is because the yamaha reciever turns it on and sends it a test signal!
  12. "what does ASL or Jolida have to offer?" I did find some there but don't know much about them or what models are any good. "A used Rogue 66 with line and remote is close to your range" I have thought about the rogue!
  13. Thanks guy's for all the info! Good to know the anthem is a nice unit. Also a good choice but I have a dared (not a bad little guy, bright though) Pretty dam good for the price. I do like the sunfire and find the audio research sp16 intriuging. Daddy Dee thanks for the offer and will give it some thought. (really like the price of the anthem) (but I do like the sunfire) Anyone have any thoughts on these 2? Anymore are welcome also! This may be a good thread for others as well, any and all info is welcome! Thanks all.
  14. Know of any good tube preamps with remote for $1000 or less! could be new or used. (preferably used for $600 or less) Can't live without remote (even if it's just volume) Doesn't have to have phono! Pasthrough would be nice for suround prepro. "but not a must" I've seen a couple anthem Pre2L's for around $600 used! Any good? I like my preamp to have a nice warmth to it, not to bright, but not rolled off on the highend either! Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time for any info.
  15. Well I've had some more time with the modded st-70! much better across the board the highs that were still a little rolled off definately aren't and the bass is no longer mushy or slow. overall very nice improvement, one hell of an amp now!
  16. I had to do it, The writing was on the wall! lol ___________________ For anyone who may be interested! ______________ Well went over craigs yesturday and we did some good work on my st70. Quick listen sounds realy realy good will get a chancce this week to listen more. This st-70 I did the tubes for hifi board mod http://www.tubes4hifi.com/ST70.htm Talked with craig and he had some others he does to the unit after the board mod. Craig and I were talking about this, more people need to hear this mod! An st-70 with this mod is an incredable amp! Anyone with an st-70 needs to try this mod or get an st-70 and do this mod! What a major improvement over the stock board, it's a whole new amp! Craig scoped this baby all out and I was quite impressed with what we saw on the scope. No more drop in low end performance and now the amp is truly flat accross the spectrum! He even showed me we were getting 42 watts a channel with a clean waveform. wwhhoooohooo! Thanks craig I feel truly confident in this amp now!
  17. Oh yah anyone happen to have an rc-7 for sale? Either black or cherry. (I have one of each now and want one for my center)
  18. leok and DeanG thanks for the info I will go ahead try the 4 ohm taps. Deang would love to see the xover. And thanks for the breakdown! Have you thought about leaving the xover external? _____________________________ Well went over craigs today and did some good work on my st70. 19. Tillmbil thanks for the input and I would like to hear some vintage horns on my system. At the moment I really really like the horn on the Rc-7 (the same as the Rf-7) It's the smoothest and most articulate horn I've heard (not brash at all) But yes want to experiment! ---------------------------- Well this afternoon I venture to craigs to see what's up. Later!
  20. Yah I can post some pics , need to take some updated ones anyway! As soon as I get a chance I will! There are several pics of my system before the all tube surround on ecoustics.com (my handle over there is kegger)
  21. cjgeraci thanks for the welcome and your thoughts on the speakers! Listening to what you have to say and how many speakers I allready own. I think you've helped me decide to stick with what I have "for now". I build/rebuild speakers myself so would be very interested in what dean has done with the xovers! ___________________________________________________- For anyone who may be interested I run my 2channel and surround from the same room and setup "just unplug my 2 channel preamp and plug in my b&k" I have a b&k ref30 with ref31 upgrade. running allmost all my tube amps in a 7.1 surround configuration with rb-5's for rears and rs35's for surrounds. was running the rc-7 as center with modded jbl's for fronts "amungst others" now that I've got the second rc-7 I'm running an older klipsch center "ksp-c6" I run a pair of subs split off the output from the mains going through a dbx sub processor powered by a kenwood m2a amp "oldie but a goodie". Then on the b&k sub out "for surround" I run a acoustic research sub amp powering 2 rockford 12" subs in a homemade sealed cabinet. Well that's my setup at this moment "may change at anytime without notice" lol You can pretty much see all my tube gear and surround stuff hear. I've got more solid state stuff and a dozen sets of speakers! "some aren't finished yet" If somebody knows "if there are any" a pair of vintage "type" klipsch that would give me the taste of what the vintage is all about that are normally on the cheaper side to buy I may look into it.
  22. "I need more time with a component to make a fair assesemnt of its qualities" agreed but it's nice to know someone else has heard it and first impressions are positive! Thanks.
  23. agreed about the older preamps I can't use them for compairison until there upto snuff. But the dared is different. see here: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?preatube&1101178494&1&3&1& It's a newer unit that's upto date and will except 12ax7 tubes also. This my preamp I use!
  24. rf3iicrazy thanks for the input and agree, without a quality preamp your starting on a bad foot allready. Just not shure what I'm getting from mine. I've tested it compared to others and keep coming back to it. "but I've not had anything truly exceptional to compare it to" As far as amps go I believe I have some nice amps. But I haven't listened to either end of the spectrum meaning the flea powered guys or anything with a lot of power so I'm wondering what others believe is best! And what tube seems to be most commonly used on klipsch? I see a lot of 6550 or kt88 but I wonder is that from choice or just what the amps peoople have take? Also I wonder how the rc-7's stack up against the vintage klipsch jobs? If anyone has experience with that and what they feel. Thanks guy's I do a lot testing myself but allways like to hear what others have to say!
