  1. Are there any new models that output the new DD and DTS formats via the analog outs rather than via optical? I really am looking forward to hearing how these sound but dont want to buy an HD DVD player AND a new receiver just to be able to do so. Thanks and happy holidays
  2. I'd get the C7 if it's that close, that's a good price. Then you could use that until you can find a single chorus for decent money. (or buy a pair and split them up, that's what I did). I don't think you'll ever lose money on the C7 at that price, so you could sell it anytime. Or never, who knows
  3. Go with 3 Chorus II up front if you have the room. I have 3 Chorus I and couldnt be happier with that set up. Plus, if you buy an actual center you'll always be wondering what it would sound like with another chorus there instead. I had chorus with a KLF-C7 and an Academy - they both sounded good, but i found myself thinking about how it should be more seamless, which was distracting while watching movies. Good luck!!
  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely want to keep the choruses up front - this IS my only system and i spent a while tracking them down and refinishing them to match. Not to mention, they sound pretty darn good. That being said, I am looking to find best match possible for surround duty. I dont believe my best option is trading out of choruses to the reference line just because they make bipole (or is is dipole?) surrounds that are more placement-friendly. My wallet would probably agree [] the wires hanging from the ceiling drive me crazy. I've been hesitant to feed the wires through the ceiling because i am only running component video and i know that will shortly be outdated for HDMI or whatever's next. Seems like future HD support with component cable is slim. When the HD DVD format war has an end in sight I'll feel more comfortable about tearing up the wall and installing something more permanent. Is a snake basically just flexible conduit tube of sorts that i'd feed through the ceiling to the floor? Once installed could i fairly easily swap out the cables inside of it? If so, maybe i should look into that sooner than later. For now though it's nice to sit in my camping chair up there with a couple of beers (sounds like the 2nd half of a jeff foxworthy joke) and watch some concerts, or possibly the most startling DVD of all time, War of the Worlds. Not afraid to admit that on DTS and cranked up pretty loud, that opening scene makes me jump every time, even though i know exactly what's going to happen.
  5. It is the attic, yes. Hard to gauge the size from the picture, but it's actually a pretty big room. The non-symmetrical ceiling drives me crazy though. I wasn't planning on adding any treatments, but some folks have mentioned that rooms with sloped ceilings are generally better for sound (something due to fewer # of 90 degree angles in the room. Does that make any sense? Will definitely re-post when complete.
  6. Thanks for the advice. Anything that would match though that is shorter than the Chorus? Seems like the Forte and Quartet are only a tad shorter. Will the sound from a heresy blend in well in an open room?
  7. We just bought a house last week and i already have begun working on my HT. Definitely a work in progress, so please let me know if you have any suggestions (besides repainting the white ceiling to get rid of all the hand prints, that is next weeks project) One concern is that the klfs i am using for surrounds are too tall for the ceiling and as a result stick out too far into the middle of the room, where the seating is going to go. I was thinking Heresy's might be my best bet, but is there anything that's a close enough match to the Chorus in the KG line? Looking to spend as little as possible at this point Current set up is... LCR: Chorus I Surrounds: KLF-10 Sub: Definitive tech prosub-80 Infocus 4805 Marantz SR6200 Samsung HD tuner xbox360
  8. I think that sounds pretty cool. I imagine one day you'll be able to broadcast hi-def signal over those babies too. I can't help wonder if STP will work better though than UTP - not necessary for computer data, but perhaps would reduce video interference?
  9. to be honest, i dont know what PMU is, or the Creative stuff you mentioned. But, i can tell you that's it's really easy to hook up a PC to a receiver. Go on ebay or newegg and buy a cheap sound card with a dolby DD/DTS digital pass through (via optical cable). You can get them for about 15 bucks. Then plug it in to any HT receiver and youre good to go. Sorry if i misunderstood this posting, best of luck Lee
  10. I sold my KSF 8.5s for $175, which I considered a better deal for the buyer than myself (but not by too much). I'd think 200-250 for a pair of 10.5s would be in the ballpark. To compare, I picked up my KLF-10s for under 200 and just recently saw another pair in my area for 250. I'd consider these probably one step up from the ksf-10.5s. Just my opinion though! good luck!
  11. Seriously, let's play fair. Looks like the lesson is dont post dibs!!! i'm in NH and would've caught these tonight on craigslist - but obviously i am not going to email about them now. Congrats if you get them!
  12. I agree that they are klf-10s. I emailed her last week before the pics were published. 250 is a good deal for those speakers. I have two already and really want to pounce on these but I just dont have the room.
  13. The matching center is a KSF-C5, which can be found in the sub-$300 price range. Decent center channel, and a perfect match. Search the main site and you'll find the specs including weight. good luck!
  14. Good luck with the sale, what a sweet center they are. Although now that i have switched to a chorus center i will never switch back! Woohoo! rock on.
  15. Yup, sold it on epay a couple months back. Thanks for checking up and good luck. I lived in Dover two years ago, and am looking to buy a house there in the next few months. Nice little town.
  16. Surround channels aren't full range? Where is the limitation, in the encoding? Really?????? Please forgive me for sound skeptical. I'm not saying your wrong it's just that that goes against what i've been told and thinking in my head for the past few years.
  17. Well my fiancé's grandparents own the place, so we are getting a good deal, especially considering that right out that big window is the beach! I think market price for this place is about $1500/mo. The size of the living room is basically the only reason i agreed to move, so i could have more room for my HT []
  18. Thanks for the advice. I'll take a better picture and post it in the picture thread when i get have a minute or two to clean up the living room.
  19. Not sure about the sub but the 8.5s at $100 will blow you away. Go for it!
  20. Hi folks. Recently moved into a new apartment because our old one was just too small for me, my fiancé and our little dog. Anyways long story short, i am finally able to set up the HT how it should be! Well, it's still not perfect but it's a lot better than it has been. I wanted to post a pic to do a little showing off [] and to get suggestions for subs with Chorus 1 mains. Probably could just read some old posts but if anyone has any new opinions on the topic i welcome them. I am currently running 3 chorus up front and a pair of Klf-10s for rears. The sub is only an 8" def tech and i know that is probably next on the upgrade list. Any feedback on the sub or in general is appreciated! Thanks, as always
  21. I knew those ion machines must've created OZONE - O3 right? That cant be healthy[]
  22. I checked Craigslist this morning (per usual) and saw a pair of Cornwall II with cane grills about an hour away for $275 and the ad was only up for an hour. So, of course, I email and call immediately. I got a call back a couple of hours later saying that I just missed them and that he'd since gotten several more calls. Looks like if I had been even minutes earlier they'd be mine. Was it a forum member that picked them up? If so, great catch!
  23. I used to have the 8.5s with a C5 center and it sounded really good. Sometimes i even wonder if the cost to upgrade to my new (to me) system is proportionately better than the old ksf's - i think probably it wasnt. 600 bucks is a decent deal. It's not a fall out of your chair backwards kind of deal but it is solid. I say go for it!
  24. A friend of mine who used to work at Tweeter has those, and man do they sound nice. I remember listening to the Blue man group CD on them one time and was in awe!
  25. Go for it, you wont be disappointed
