I couldn't believe what they try to pass off as BBQ in Virginia. Most people up there don't even know what a Brisket is......................
  2. Houston BBQ Cookoff Well tonight is my Friday night at work, and Im on vacation for the next 12 days. Going to have a rough next week while on vacation. Every year I cook with one of the teams in the above mentioned cook-off. We go down Wednesday to get everything fired up and start cooking Brisket, Sausage, Ribs, and Yard bird. We will stay down there until Sunday morning, only going to one of the guys houses on Friday for showers (I just cant make it all 4 days without one). The one really hard part is for us cooks all the food and drinks are free. Last year just our team cooked over 3000 lbs of meat (yes three thousand) and we were just one team out of 250 or so. One of the other hard parts is while the cook-off is open to the public Thursday thru Saturday there will be somewhere around 183,000 people attending. Any of you that are from Texas or have been around Texas you will understand when I say the women are dressed to the T. OMG the Rocky Mountain Jeans and all are just a sight to see. I will try and think of all my new friends on the forum and have a drink for each of you while Im slaving away cooking, eating and drinking all this next weekend. Going to see if this soon to be grandpa can still hang with the Big Dogs. Hey Thebes you can send down the twins if you want, we will show them some real Texas hospitality. Steve
  3. Yeah, we are still in shock from the news. The funny thing is we were just talking about this last week. Wondering when we would get our first and who would be first, Son or Daughter. Our family is kind of spread out since we moved to Virginia. Daughter lives just outside of Houston and Son lives in Pensacola. I know Caroline will be making more trips from Va to Tx. Good thing I work for an Airline. She will probably be making the trips with me more often when I go to Houston for work. We will make sure we get down there enough to spoil it right. For sure the HT room will be playground for grandpa. Hey for yall out there that are grandparents. What do your grandkids call you? It seems that grandma and grandpa are kind of dated, also sounds old.
  4. I got back here as quick as I could. I brought the whole box from the barn. But from the looks of things around here the girls are going to need some serious beat to help them tear up those Bose girls. I do have this one album that I think will do the trick, but I dont have it in vinyl. But it is from one of our very own, its Craigs Big Left Turn cd. Hey Max I know you have a player for this, can you put it on so we can see the twins march to the beat of Craigs drums, and kick those wicked Bose girls out of here.
  5. I think I can top m00n feeling old when he got his 20th high school reunion invite. Our 23 year old Daughter told Caroline last night she was Pregnant!!!!!!! O M G.... we are going to be grandparents. I know this day was coming but I'm not old enough to be a Granddad.
  6. Wouldn't that be nice. I could use that to copy when we finish our addition..... Did you notice the Jamo logo was already there????? Steve
  7. Thebes, You got me thinking I have A Flock of Seagulls "Telecommunications" in that galley cart in the barn. Do you think one of the twins would like to excort me back to pick it up. Chance and Foxmahn (my horses) would probably not mind the intrution as long as we thru them some hay while we were in there. Tell Max to have another Black and Tan on the bar, if you don't mind.
  8. Terminate, If nothing else it just looks nicer
  9. Good Evening Thebes, Does Max know how to pour a Black and Tan? We can't have any of the Guiness getting into the Bass Ale. Hey I ran out into the barn before I came up here to meet the twins, and had to dig way back into the back of the shop where I have an old galley cart that I retrieved from a crashed A/C many years ago, and inside the galley cart is my box of old LP's. I was in a hurry and I just reached in and grabbed one and rushed up here to meet the twins..... Well to my suprise what I grabed is the origanal sound track to Star Wars by John Williams. It probably could use a good cleaning befor Max puts it on his new TT. OK now I want to meet the twins and their friends.
  10. Best advice so far in this thread? Save your money until you can afford something nice. $500 isn't going to buy you much in the way of a receiver. I did some reserch before I bought the Marantz because I was in the same boat and didn't want to spend over $500.00 right now. What I found in the Marantz, was the SR4500 had less power and input and output plugs and it only upsampled to S video (I dont think I said that right but you know what I mean). It had all the same componants as their higher priced receivers, and I found out that the 80 WPC is very conservitive also. I feel that the main thing the money will buy is more power in the high end name brands. Which is needed for the bigger rooms. In my small living room the SR4500 does a good job. Like I said before as long your happy whith what you are hearing whats the point in breaking the bank.................... Steve
  11. I have KG5.2 mains, KV3 center, KG1 rears, sw8 sub (need bigger), run it with the Marantz SR4500. I would try and stick with the KG line for your rears and as Thebes said try Ebay.... Steve
  12. I just bought a Marantz SR4500 for $400.00. I am happy with it for now, it is just a interum receiver until our addition is completed then I will go with sereates. It it only a 80x7 receiver so it would not work well in a large room. For the money I think it was a good buy. I'm happy and thats all that counts, Right..... haha Steve
  13. well it went for $6300.00 I wish I had the funds to get in on that.
  14. Its up to 6100.00 with a little over an hour and a half left. Thats just over half price..........

  16. Not something that I would even probably notice. For some reason I never turn off any of the DirecTV boxes in the house. Everything else gets turned off but some how I never bother to turn em off. I think its caus I like to be able to just turn the tv on and not mess with the DTV box. the best part is that my antenna is on the roof and I don't have to climb up there and add the coax cable and run it into the house. When they came out to change the amtenna to the oval one he tried to get me to mount it on a pole in the yard. NOPE, its staying on top of the house.
  17. I bet it will get a lot of use at my house. I am just about half deaf from working around A/C and riding the scooter, and I am always asking "Cat" what did they say? So now i can just let em say it again. COOL..................... Steve
  18. I have worked on and around A/cfor the past 20+ years. I could go for days with stories that would scare most people. I still say put me on a plane anyday. Love to fly. I also thought that some would find this funny and some it will scare. oops list
  19. Well I called DirecTV this afternoon when I got up. I will have a DVR in the house installed with the extra feed from the antenna on Monday. And it will cost me ZERO........... They waived all the charges. She said they charge 99.00 for the box and install, 14.95 S&H. But they waived it all. Just have to pay the $4.99 a month for the TIVO service, And year contract. But like I said before I really don't have any other choices and I would use DirecTV anyway. And they assured me that it does have the digital audio outs. Thanks for your help guys. Steve
  20. THX Ultra2 System Check this out on e-bay. Says he's going thru a divorce and is selling a 1 month old THX ultra2 system with no reserve. Wish I had the $$$ to bid on this. wonder what it will go up to??? Edit: works now
  21. Gramas701 Thats not a problem, I am not planning on moving and its not like I have have alot of choice. Cable doesn't run anywhere near my house. And I don't think I will be switching to Dish or Voom.
  22. Fish well up untill last week I had no need for digital outs, so it never even crossed my mind untill I was hooking up the new receiver and I went "hey this blows" haha Fish you have a pm Steve
  23. Thats also a better idea, and less $$$. About 8 months ago I added one box to a tv upstairs and it doesn't have the digital outs either.
