  1. Thanks, are any models better or worse for pairing with heritage?
  2. Hi All, I'm hoping you can suggest surround/rear speakers that mount in (or under) the ceiling and would sound decent with Khorn/Cornscala fronts. WAF will not permit hanging big boxes (such as Heresy's) from the ceiling, but small boxes might be acceptable. I'd like to keep the cost for all 4 speakers under $1500 but could go higher if there's a big jump in sound quality. In August we'll move into a home with a great room. The great room has a front wall, 1 side wall (I'll need to build a false wall for 1 Khorn), the kitchen on 1 side, and the dining area at the rear. I'm concerned that surround/rear speakers on stands might get knocked-over. I'd appreciate your thoughts, Mikie
  3. I also use 5650's for surrounds (but a horizontal Cornscala center between Khorn mains). Sounds great. --Mikie
  4. Wires are 12 gauge Home Depot low voltage outdoor wire. Glad to hear that you're not having problems with a 25 foot run - I didn't really want to hassle with separate raceways. Now back to planning the new layout.
  5. Thinking about moving a few things around but it would require the wires to my Khorn mains to run side by side in a raceway for about 12 feet. I know running wires in parallel is to be avoided but would is it noticable with speaker wires? If so,any rules of thumb about how far should the wires be separated for the affect to be inaudible?
  6. I just bought this for a Cornscala center I'm building. Looking forward to the new tool like a kid on X-mas eve [] http://www.spraygunworld.com/Information2/FinishlineIIIKIT.htm
  7. Chris, the logo is awesome - looks exactly like the picture. [Y] It'll be a few months before I finish the center & get a picture up. Hopefully the speaker will be worthy of the logo. As an aside - cool packaging idea. I'll store it that way during the build. Thanks again, Mikie
  8. Thebes - great find on the site with B&O manuals. I have an RX-2 & wanted the service manual for years. Many thanks. I got an MMC2 cartridge from sound-smith.com a couple years back & luv it. Very nice cartridge from a quality vendor. --Mikie
  9. Thumperxes, my current center is similar to yours - except I used 10" woofers, didn't port, didn't build a stand, and my woodworking skills aren't very good. Nice job, wish I had your talent.
  10. Tom, glad to hear positive feedback on the cast frame K-33 - I was wondering about it vs. the stamped frame.
  11. I have got the MPS-2 and love it - excellent build quality and dead quiet. Plus it looks cool.
  12. My name is Mikie, and I'm a Heritage-aholic [] A few years ago I built a custom center (K77, K55 w/401 lens, 2 10" woofers, & a Bec Cornscala x-over) to compliment my Khorns. The center needed to be thin to squeeze into an entertainment center over a 65" rear-projection TV. It was good, but never had the kick I wanted to keep up with the Khorns. After several years years of patiently waiting the rear-projection finally bit the dust and will be replaced with a 63" plasma on Sunday. At long last I have an opportunity to build a real Cornscala with a K33 [8][<)][8]. WAF limits total height to 24", but a width of up to 5' is possible. I'm thinking of a Cornscala with 19" internal height, around 24" deep & 48" wide (haven't calculated exact dimentions yet. The K77/K55 stacked on the left side & a K33 on the right with a single 3"x15" verticle port on the far right (wish I could post a screenshot). Before I get too far designing the enclosure I'd appreciate comments/suggestions.
  13. Thanks DTLogno - I'll definately consider the Outlaw units. The old receiver was acting up again this morning so I decided to get a temporary unt off Craigslist. Not the greatest unit but the price was right & it'll do for a few months. Now, on with the search
  14. Thanks Tommyboy, I only wish it was out now. Maybe I'll find something off Craigslist to tide me over. --Mikie
  15. Gremlins have taken over my Elite AV receiver - the volume randomly increases/decreases. It's annoying at present, but I'm worried that it might go nuts & push full power through the Khorns (painful - especially if it happens to the wife). I've been wanting to go with separates for quite some time & this seems like the time. There's no end of online information about amps & I quickly settled on the Emotiva MPS-2 (can't wait for delivery). Unfortunately information about A/V pre/pro's (if that's even the right term) seems scant. My needs are simple (at least to me). - 5.1 Audio (room is too small for 7.1) - 1 rear projection display with DVI & component inputs (hope to replace with plasma within a year) - 1 Comcast DVR with component & TOSLink (not sure about HDMI) - 1 HTPC with DVI, HDMI, & TOSLink (no biggie if I need to upgrade anything). CD's, DVD's & BluRays are played back via the HTPC - 1 XBox 360 - No need for Phono input (I play vinyl through a flat pre-amp into the HTPC where I process through DC7) - Balanced outputs (XLR) preferred - Easy to use via Harmony remote (and of course "pretty") - $1000 US or less - Available now or in the near future (I could get a cheap temporary unit if there's a good reason to wait) I would appreciate your thoughts about what to consider when selecting a pre/pro, and of course any recommendations. Thanks --Mikie
  16. I noticed that Sound Forge 9 does compression. Does anyone know if it also does expansion? In Dave's earlier post he mentioned the need to expand 70's music. - Mikie
  17. Thanks for walking through the decisions/steps so clearly Dave. l'll research Sound Forge a bit before making a decision. -- Mikie
  18. Thanks Allan - I guess nothing comes without a price. Most of my albums don't need treatment, but a few need serious help. Perhpas limited use is the best course - if it doesn't work I'm only out $69. -- Thanks, Mikie
  19. I'm looking to copy my old albums to digital and want to remove clicks, pops, & rumble in the process. The only software I've found that does all of these things comes with the DAK Mixer Interface System http://www.dak.com/Reviews/2020Story.cfm At $69 the price is good and it looks like I can configure the level of restoration. Does anyone have experience with this software or other recommendations? -- Thanks, Mikie
  20. Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I couldn't swing a tour of Klipsch HQ - maybe later. -- Mikie
  21. After searching for a bit I see that Klipsch HQ is now in Indy I sent an email hoping to arrange a visit. -- Mikie
  22. I'm hoping the forum can show me a good time. I'm heading to Indianopolis for a week in mid Feb on business. I seem to remember posts about Indy on this forum, but I don't remember the specifics. I not thrilled about the prospect of sitting in a hotel room and would love to visit at a Klipsch showroom, factory, ..... or anything about acoustics. Any ideas? -- Thanks, Mikie
  23. Wow, I'll leave this one alone then. Thanks Al
