  1. Eldorado - Electric Light Orchestra Audio CD (June 12, 2001) Label: Sony 01. Eldorado Overture 02. Can't Get It Out Of My Head 03. Boy Blue 04. Laredo Tornado 05. Poor Boy (The Greenwood) 06. Mister Kingdom 07. Nobody's Child 08. Illusions In G Minor 09. Eldorado 10. Eldorado Finale 11. Eldorado Instrumental Medley 12. Dark City Something about rock music and a full Orchestra. ELO's Eldorado is not just a rock album from days gone by, it is also a masterpiece in pure classical composition at it's finest. Greg's Pick: Boy Blue
  2. Cher - Believe - CD Still her greatest work to date. 01 Believe 02 The Power 03 Runaway 04 All or Nothing 05 Strong Enough 06 Dov'é l'Amore 07 Takin' Back My Heart 08 Taxi Taxi 09 Love Is the Groove 10 We All Sleep Alone While the song Believe is well known many of the other songs on this CD show the depth Cher. Dov'é l'Amore has a spanish influence with great acoustic guitar. Yes this CD is distictively Cher but at her best. Greg
  3. I posted this great three CD set on 7/25/2005 on this forum the day I got it. The JACKIE GLEASON Orchestra, For Lovers Only, Easy Listening (JAZZ), LP/CD http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/575675/ShowPost.aspx Just look down a few posts on that page. So yes you can find it. And no, Jackie Gleason does not sing. Greg I've seen those at Amazon.com. I'd say get the CDs so you don't have to get up and flip the record.
  4. Ace Of Base - Cruel Summer Type: The Beat - Dance Hits Audio CD (July 14, 1998) 01. Cruel Summer 02. Donnie 03. Whenever You're Near Me 04. Everytime It Rains 05. Adventures In Paradise 06. Don't Go Away 07. Cecilia 08. He Decides 09. Always Have, Always Will 10. Tokyo Girl 11. Travel To Romantis 12. Cruel Summer (Blazin' Rhythm Remix) Official website http://www.aceofbase.com/ Ace Of Base is something as uncomplicated as a pop band, that doesnt try to be, appears to be anything else than that. They want to make their listeners feel good when hearing their music. They dont have any heavy messages, even if the songs obviously have become better crafted and substantial over the years. Simplicity isnt easy. The fact that Ace of Base has sold over 30 million albums and 15 million singles proves that they know what theyre doing. Ace Of Base is one of the worlds biggest bands, one of those rare bands whose name is a well-known brand wherever in the world you go. Their fans, so called Acers, also show a passionate interest in the band. Every year, some of them flew in to Gothenburg from all over the world to get together, share views and opinions on the band, check out the studios where the band has recorded and walk the streets where Ace Of Base grew up. Greg's Picks: Cruel Summer, Tokyo Girl Both super hits with a strong rhythm and dance beat that is hard to forget. Other Ace-Of-Base CD's worth a spin: "The Bridge" and "The Sign". Greg
  5. Funny thing is the way the song is done makes a big difference. Zappa was crude to the point we knew it. But I think Roxy Music would be great for those times where you wanted to set the lights down low. But please don't turn on closed caption for this video DVD. It may spoil the moment. Take for example the wonderful song "In every dream home a heartache". The sound is perfect for the seductive moment but the words "normal for Brian Ferry" never match the mood of the song. In every dream home a heartache And every step I take Takes me further from heaven Is there a heaven? I`d like to think so Standards of living They´re rising daily But home oh sweet home It´s only a saying From bell push to faucet In smart town apartment The cottage is pretty The main house a palace Penthouse perfection But what goes on What to do there Better pray there Open plan living Bungalow ranch style All of its comforts Seem so essential I bought you mail order My plain wrapper baby Your skin is like vinyl The perfect companion You float my new pool De luxe and delightful Inflatable doll My role is to serve you Disposable darling Can´t throw you away now Immortal and life size My breath is inside you I´ll dress you up daily And keep you till death sighs Inflatable doll Lover ungrateful I blew up your body But you blew my mind Oh those heartaches Dream home heartaches I would still recommend Roxy Music but as I said... keep the closed captions off. Greg
  6. All I know is Barry White is a good choice. Jazz is also good. But sometimes it really has to do with what you may have been playing when some other moment occured. Brick House, YMCA and watching SuperFly have become seductive in our home for reasons that only make sense to us. Here are two songs that you should not play! Frank Zappa - Freak Out! - The Mothers of Invention Wowie Zowie - Frank Zappa Wowie zowie Your loves a treat Wowie zowie You cant be beat Wowie zowie, baby Youre so neat I dont even care If you shave your legs Wowie zowie, baby Youre so fine Wowie zowie, baby Please be mine Wowie zowie Up and down my spine I dont even care If you brush your teeth I dream of you each mornin I dream of you each night Just the other day I got so shook up I dreamed of you in the afternoon Baum didi, baum didi, baum didi, Baum didi, baum didi, baum didi I dream of you each mornin I dream of you each night Just the other day I got so shook up I had a flash in the afternoon Wowie zowie, baby Love me do Wowie zowie And Ill love you too Wowie zowie, baby Ill be true I dont even care If your dads the heat Wowie zowie Wowie Wowie zowie Wowie Wowie zowie Wowie Wowie zowie Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder - Frank Zappa A year ago today Was when you went away But now you come back knockin on my door And you say youre back to stay, But I say... Go cry On somebody elses shoulder Im somewhat wiser now And one whole year older I sure dont need you now And I dont love you Anymore You cheated me baby, And told some dirty lies about me Fooled around with all those other guys Thats why I had to set you free I sure dont need you now And I dont love you Anymore A year ago today You went away And now you come back crying Crying, crying: please, let me in But I dont need you No I dont love you anymore So go lean on...go cry on Somebody elses door Go cry On somebody elses shoulder Im somewhat wiser now And one whole year older I sure dont need you now And I dont love you Anymore (oh, my darling!) (spoken:) Go ahead and cry Go ahead and let the tears fall outa your eye Let em fall on your dress Who cares if it makes a mess? I gave you my high school ring At the root beer stand We had a teen-age love baby I thought it was sharp It was really so grand...but You cheated me baby And told some dirty lies about me Fooled around with all those other guys Thats why I had to get my khakis pressed I sure dont need you now And I dont love you Anymore (spoken:) Baby, I love you so much, darling Why dont you dig me? I dig you But you dont dig me I dont understand what it is I had my car re-upholstered I got my hair processed I got a nice pompadour job on it I bought a new pair of shoes I got some new khakis and I met you And we went out to get a coca-cola... Greg
  7. Rock, classical and the mighty MOOG Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Pictures at an Exhibition I originally had this live performance on Reel-to-Reel. Just looked on Ebay and someone sold the reel-to-reel version for $103.50. I have had the CD now for some time and there is a remastered DVD version out which will give you the live video and 5.1 digital sound to boot. Released on LP: January 1972 Released on audio CD: May 21, 1996 Released on DVD: July 30, 2002 01 Promenade-The Gnome-Promenade-The Sage-The Old Castle-Blues Variations 02 The Gnome 03 Promenade 04 The Sage 05 The Old Castle 06 Blues Variation 07 Promenade 08 The Hut of Baba Yaga 09 The Curse of Baba Yaga 10 The Hut of Baba Yaga 11 The Great Gates of Kiev-The End 12 End-Nutrocker
  8. Well Roxy Music Live at the Apollo is my favorite DVD. Here is another great Roxy Music live performance from 1982. While it does not have the perfection in performance of the Apollo DVD it does offer the raw quality of a great band and is one of my top DVD recommendations. The High Road DVD is a masterpiece which contains many of the same songs we heard in the Apollo performace. Roxy Music - The High Road Released on DVD - December 14, 2004 Recorded Live in Frejus France on 27th August 1982. Running time: 73Min. # 1. The Main Thing # 2. Out Of The Blue # 3. Both Ends Burning # 4. A Song For Europe # 5. Can't Let Go # 6. While My Heart Is Still Beating # 7. Avalon # 8. My Only Love # 9. Dance Away # 10. Love Is The Drug # 11. Like A Hurricane # 12. Editions Of You # 13. Do The Strand # 14. Jealous Guy Bryan Ferry...........Vocals Phil Manzaner.......Guitar Andy MacKay .......Saxophone and Oboe Neil Hubbard........Guitar Andy Newmark.....Drums Alan Spenner.........Bass Guitar Jimmy Maelen.......Percussion Guy Fletcher..........Keyboards Fonzi Thornton......Backing Vocals Michelle Cobbs.....Backing Vocals Tawatha Agee........Backing Vocals If you love Roxy Music this High Road is a must have DVD as well. Side Note: I also have the Roxy Music EP/DVD. There are only three songs on the EP/DVD by Roxy Music and the rest of the DVD includes other video's from the past such as Rick Wakeman and Leon Russell. Good DVD but not Roxy's best offering. Greg
  9. Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) But I can't help myself.. I still watch it.
  10. Music to roller skate by! Remember: Fast skaters only when playing "Wipe Out".. The Ultimate History of Rock & Roll Collection, Vol. 4: Rockin' Instrumentals 01. Walk, Don't Run - The Ventures 02. Pipeline - The Chantays 03. Telstar - Tornadoes 74 04. Rinky Dink - Dave "Baby" Cortez 05. Tuff - Ace Cannon 06. Memphis - Lonnie Mack 07. Last Night - The Mar-Keys 08. Red River Rock - Johnny & the Hurricanes 09. Let's Go - Routers 10. Forty Miles of Bad Road - Duane Eddy 11. Teen Beat - Sandy Nelson 12. Out of Limits - The Marketts 13. Raunchy - Bill Justis 14. Wipe Out - The Surfaris 15. No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In) - The T-Bones Raunchy is my top pick for the CD. But the "Alka-Seltzer" classic commercial song from the past "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In) by The T-Bones". Yes it was the T-Bones. Every song on this CD brings back sounds from the past. Most of the songs have not had any air play of any kind for years. What memories does this CD bring back to you? For me, roller skating! Greg

  14. Love Songs by Dean Martin Dean Martin Great CD with love songs that Dean Martin made popular for over the last 50 years. They just don't write love songs the way Dean did. When the moon hits your eye Like a big-a pizza pie That's amore # Audio CD (January 21, 1997) # Label: Ranwood Records 1. That's Amore 2. Memories Are Made Of This 3. Return To Me (Ritorna-Me) 4. 15. That would be my top three pick as well. I did put them in order. 1. Ginger Baker - Graham Bond Org, Cream, Air Force, etc. 2. Paul Thompson - Roxy Music, Concrete Blonde 3. Graeme Edge - Moody Blues, Graeme Edge Band Greg
  16. Phil Manzanera and Chris Spedding of Roxy Music Phil Manzanera http://www.manzanera.com/biog2.htm Phil Manzanera is one of the UK's best-known musicians and record producers, having shot to prominence in the early '70's as the lead guitarist with the seminal band, Roxy Music. He is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading guitarists and is in much demand both as a performer and record producer, especially of Spanish-speaking artists. Chris Spedding http://www.chrisspedding.com/ Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Chris Spedding was a mainstay of the British session scene since the late 60s, playing with just about everyone from Nucleus, Jack Bruce, John Cale, Elton John, Mike Batt to Paul McCartney & The Bay City Rollers (anonymously!). In 1975 Spedding had a hit record called "Motorbikin'". In the late 70s he moved to the States and worked with Robert Gordon, Jerry Harrison, Dick Rivers and Johnny Hallyday. Recently, Spedding plays with Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, and in the summer 2005 he releases solo album and will tour in Germany. Both of the above guitarist are part of the rock band Roxy Music. All I can say is when play together it is awesome! The Roxy Music - Live at the Apollo (2002) DVD includes this great talent. This DVD is actually my #1 pick of all the music I own. Greg
  17. 10 (1979) # Actors: Dudley Moore, Julie Andrews, Bo Derek, Robert Webber and Dee Wallace-Stone # Directors: Blake Edwards Nothing against Bo Derek but this movie is lame. Greg

Wooo baby I would put "I Get off on You" in the music cue for you but Barry is taking a break while Ginger Baker is jamming the night away... But later..... " your sexiness, right down to your feet," Greg
  20. I will have to look for Stratavarious. Seems that was a LP released back in 1972! I have to admit I really like Middle Passage by Ginger Baker which is not as rare. Audio CD was released September 24, 1991 but seems Amazon has it in stock. Middle Passage - Ginger Baker 01 Mektoub 02 Under Black Skies 03 Time Be Time 04 Alamout 05 Basil 06 South To The Dust Best song on the CD "to me" is song #6 "South To The Dust". Samples on Amazon to listen too as well. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000GBB/002-4650203-5247263?v=glance My wife just picked up the "Cream Royal Albert Hall - London May 2-3-5-6 05" (2-DVD Set) as well as the November 26, 1968 Cream Farwell Concert DVD today. The drum solo on DVD-2 of the "Cream Royal Albert Hall - London concert" shows Baker still has his stuff. Best drum solo by Ginger to date! This is one hell of a great concert and I got to see it! Looks great on my Dell 24" 2405 LCD monitor,,,, but it sounds wonderful due to my Klipsch speakers! Great 5.1 sound! Greg Greg you got any other must have GB I'll pick it up on friday...Thanks
  21. That is one hell of a pick. Big Ginger Baker fan here! Greg
  22. Well I for one do! I have a HDTV card on my computer system for OTA broadcasts and PBS SoundStage has had some really good shows. With PBS which broadcasts in 720P only DL DVD will fit one hour of program content. What about 1080i like the OLYMPICS. Well around two hours at 1080i took 12.7 GB (13,728,391,168 bytes). DTV content just won't fit on DVD with today's standards even DL. Love to have a few 25GB DVD's to put those shows on! Still I don't wait. I buy DVD's when I see what I like. If we go to higher quality in the future the old DVD's will make great coffee coasters. Greg Hey...Everyone gets to vote!![][][] Especially since no one knows what this new standard will be! 720p, 1080i, 1080p, HDDVD, Blu Ray, Holographic storage...take your pick! And those are just the formats available as of 2006! Besides, if the disk is of legacy material - who cares?????????????????? It makes no difference!
  23. Keeping with the spirt this week I submit the late great "Super Freak" himself.... Rick James Ultimate Collection - Rick James # Audio CD (March 25, 1997) # Original Release Date: March 25, 1997 # Label: Motown / Pgd 01 Cold Blooded 02 Give It To Me Baby 03 You And I 04 Mary Jane 05 Super Freak 06 Dance Wit' Me 07 Make Love To Me 08 Love Gun 09 Bustin' Out 10 High On Your Love Suite/One Mo Hit (Of Your Love) 11 Ghetto Life 12 Ebony Eyes 13 Fire And Desire Despite his meteoric rise and recording success, James won only a single Grammy, for co-writing M.C. Hammer's monster hit "U Can't Touch This," a song sampled from James' "Super Freak." James died Friday, August 6, 2004. Greg
