  2. nah, just a little to confusing to say.. my "pb12 thats I used to own, but no longer own because i returned it blah blah" it really doest matter for this debate's sake, It was just a lose example.

I was a little taken back by it... for 800 bucks, I was expecting something a bit more..... NON-CHEAP-CAR-AUDIO-LOOKING-ISH

I am not returning it because it doesn't sound good, because it does. I am returning it because, if I want TRUE hi-fidelity sound. I shouldn't be listening to compressed audio files and being that they are compressed files, WHY am I paying $400 to make compressed audio sound better in my home. AAC and MP3 files are great for audio on the go,but Do I really want to pay that much to have a system made for compressed audio? I will get back to building a great Hi-Fi system. ---------------- Don't use iTunes for compression, i think that crappy software defaults to 128k, I use 320 and i still dont even notice anything more than 256. I run those files off much more expensive Klipsch speakers and they sound just fine. You can also store non-compressed audio on your ipod, but you will not be able to tell the difference between that and hi bit rate mp3s. Any besides, like Andy said, it has a line-in for a quality CD player if you have it.
  5. Thanks Amy, That answers my question. BTW, if you are taking suggestions.. How about a 399 dollar black version without the ipod dock, just a PC 2.1 system? I'm not sure how much of the cost goes into the whole ipod dock part, but a standard 2.1 xFi in black would be slick. People already spend 400 bucks on a PC system and to be honest, surround sound for the PC is overrated, I think there are enough people who want a more focused version of a 2.1 system and the iFi fits the bill!
  6. Which ties the sounddock and looses to a few other cheap solutions like jbl creatures (*PUKES*). I would have figured it would have bested the bose. I know its not a sound quality compare, but more of an all around compare, and I think the size is seriously weighted when considered. They certainly admitted it sounded a lot better and imo, thats all that matters. Im going to the apple store in walnut creek tomorrow and picking up a pair of 2.0s for a graduation gift for a friend, Ill check the iFi once more. BTW, amy, can you PLEASE find out from one of the engineers what the RMS is for each channel and the subwoofer (off the record if possible) ?

FIL has arthritis and is slow. Relative to him, I’m fast & furious. I took his advice to heart (having never prepared it before) and skinned them just like you might a carrot. I ALSO skinned the “nub” at the end off. I was WIZZING through them and had about ½ of them done. Imagine the horror of my father in law when he saw the sharpened pencil sticks I was so quickly piling up. Little did I know at the time that the tips (which I so skillfully shaved off into a point) was the best part. They do not allow me to help prepare the asparagus anymore. ---------------- rofl! The SUB-12 gives anything in Mag a run for the money ---------------- This was the Concord store in CA, any best buy in Nor Cal has a magnolia subsecion. The speakers are very much overpriced and are all genearlly small driver speakers. I dont htink they even had anything over 6.5".... and most of the subwoofers were 8".. perhaps a few 10"'s but thats it. They were still nice, but for the price, I'd rather have larger speakers.

Yes, the tiny 8" REL's were no match for the Sub-12 for 1/3rd the price.
  10. Looks like they have em in my apple store in walnut creek, so im gonna drive over there ant take another look. I think the apple store has carpet and low ceiling and a wall or two, so it should sound a lot better!

  12. Also, no one could even tell it was an ipod system because the pod was hidden out of side because it had an ipod in it. I had to ask where the pod was and the guy looked confused for a second. On top of that, I even got to even see the remote, the average consumer would not even know this was for the ipod because it was not near the other ipod systems. Also, the guy who was showing it to me would not leave me alone because he was afraid i was going to steal the ipod or something, so it was a bit of distraction. I generally like to listen to music alone when I am testing stuff out.
  13. Ok, I was not really sure, because it was noisy in the store so i could not even tell if i was distorting it.. I had the orange lights mostly light up, is there another row after the orange ones, or something like that? Amy, it was teh compusa in Concord, CA right next to the Good Guys in Concord.
  14. ok, i need to go to the apple store and test them. CompUSA just sucked! I know they should sound good, my RSX's sound great, but i think they are very good at near field, I have never had problems.
  15. A lot smaller than my SVS PB-12 ISD but it kicked every bit as hard. I think, other than the deep deep bass it has it matched! I'm very impressed however some idiot decided to break off one of the feet so it wobbled everywhere which could not have been good for the sound quality. It was hooked up to the entire S-3 C-3 line, and to test it, i just unplugged every speaker BestBuy people we're looking at me kind of wier.d Anyway, it was not corner loaded in fact not even wall loaded. But still kicked pretty hard! I was happy with its performace but I want to test it more. Best buy was also stocking Vienna Acoustics matched with some REL subwoofers. They were set up perfect in a sound room with some nice hardware playing phantom of the operaa DVD. I was amazing by the sound quality of those speakers and if they were not 8,000 bucks a pair, I might consider them! I hope Klipsch releases their premier line soon, Im very excited they will have new speakers in this price range for a change!
  16. BTW, Jay, the ball socket thing is not supposed to be moved without adjusting the bolts around it. You need to turn the speaker over, pop out the included Allen wrenc on the bottom and loosen the four bolts around the ball. Then you can move it around. After you get it close to where you want.. tighten it back up, but be careful and dont slip, you could scratch the speaker! Then stick the long side of the Allen wrench into the small hole at the bottom of the stand and you will feel a 5th bolt. This on is the second metal support pole that needs to be elevated to just touch the RSX-3 and give it added support so it not all 100% friction. You need to twist the bolt up with the wrench just until it touches groove on the bottom of the speaker. This is not really necessary of the RSX-3' but on the 5' you have to use this 5th support bolt because they are a lot bigger and heavier. Its also much more necessary when you try and wall mount the speaker.
  17. great review jay, i think you share insite that is much needed in this competitive market. I saw the bosedock thing today near the iFi when i was checking it out.. I did not even bother to turn the dman thing on because I knew it would suck... This was right after I was listning to some 8,000 dollar Vienna Acoustics speakers over at BestBuy (Magnolia subsection) Maybe I should get a job at the apple store this summer because I would love to atempt to persuade people towards klipsch away from bose.
  18. the ifi sounded like crap in this store. I was very disappointed because i know how good RSX-3's sound and i know how good my SWS sounded and I know how good this system should sound so what gives? They had it in the middle of their entire store.. double story 40+ feet roof, all hard surfaces, everything a sound room should not be. I had the yellow dots nearly all the way tot he right and it was not very loud, perhaps there was 1 more click to the right, but i didnt want to push it. It also did not sound any better than any PC system, in fact it sounded worse than my 2.1's AND I KNOW THATS FALSE! I really like the iFi so i suggest klipsch's contact GoodGuys (CompUSA owns them as you know) and try to get the iFi into these stores. Compusa should NOT SELL SPEAKERS. If i did not know anything about klispch, i would think they suck after hearing this thing and I was probably the most anxious for it and would more likely give a very biased review in favor of the iFi so this should hit hard with you Klipsch, get it OUT Of that god damn store, it will give it a bad reputation. other than that, the system looks very nice and its a lot smaller than I thought. Of course, my RSX-4's and 5's really make the 3's look tiny, but man.. the 3's are very dense so they appear to be heavier, even though they are not.. they are by far the cutest speakers I have ever seen and anyone who appreciates design should go for these in a heart beat! The subwoofer is a bit larger than the SWS but im am totally unaware of how it compares to it at this point.
  19. haha, now we got Cambridge Soundworks people on the attack <2/5> stars "mayyyybe worth $200" "compare the Cambridge Soundworks Microworks II, and recognize" haha the microworks! At least say the Megaworks 210s! And that would still be insulting! the iFi could go up againts the 211's or 215's no problem. Wow, that is just insulting.. people are really dumb on the apple store.
  20. How much were the 4" ports?
  21. awesome stuff, keep us posted about how the PVC works out for the sound test.
  22. There is no way to tell if its thin, but you have to be VERY carfull when sanding, do it with fine grit and dont do it much.. just take off the lacquered. You can probably do the prep work yourself and then have it stained/painted by someone else.
  23. I just did a lil more research and it looks like Bestbuy owns Magnolia now. They do hire different personal for the hifi sub sections, so I guess thats a little better right?
