  1. I just saw the Toshiba HD-DVD player in the Crutchfield catalog for $499. I think that Sony's plan to incorporate Blu-Ray playback into the upcoming PS3 gives Blu-Ray a giant edge over HD-DVD.
  2. It doesn't seem like there are many fans of dispersion surround speakers. Surround speakers always seem so under-utilized. I'm actually kind of happy that I won't be using the Heresy's as surrounds-- they deserve better.
  3. I have a pair of Forte's for mains and an Academy center. I'm going to build a theater in my basement and looking at the planned room configuration it appears that I'll need to wall mount the surrounds. I have a pair of Heresy's that I was planning to use as rear surrounds but they're just too big to mount on the walls (at least where I'd have to mount them). What would be some decent matches for my Forte's? They will simply be used to reproduce surround effects. I don't plan on using them for any 5-channel music. I'm leaning towards a the RS series. Any ideas?
  4. I bought an old Soundcraftsmen. Why do tube amps have better bass? The Soundcraftsmen blows away my Rotel. Made a big difference with the bass response on the Heresy's.
  5. how far does the sound travel throughout the house? I'm a little worried that I won't be able to turn it up when the family is asleep.
  6. I have a pair of black Forte's made in '86 and they are also listed at 4 ohms on the cap.
  7. No, there aren't different settings for the phono. I connected it to the mag inputs.
  8. I recently purchased a Soundcraftsmen model 5050 amp/preamp from Ebay. The amp work's wonderful when using the Aux input but when I hooked up my turntable I noticed that I wasn't getting any low frequency from the output. I connected the turntable to another amp and it was fine. Any ideas on what the problem may be? The output from the amp was definitely compromised.
  9. I need to build a "front wall" for the theater so they'll be attached to the screen wall (which will actually be a small room for storage and my equipment rack.
  10. Anyone heard of this? I'm planning on building an IB subwoofer for my home theater. I just received 4 15" subwoofers from Acoustic Elegance. I'm going to build a manifold with 2 sets of drivers on each side firing at each other and powered by a Behringer 2500 pro amp. Not including the OSB and plywood I've spent $800 for the subwoofer.
  11. The seller had the amp checked out by a tech prior to the sale (he even included the receipt). My wife can't hear the difference-- oh well! I would appreciate some opinions on the following: I was planning to use my Heresy's as rears in a HT 5.1 setup for movies and DVD-A and SACD listening. I also need a pair of speakers in our family room for 2-channel listening. Should I use the Heresy's in the family room or keep the Heresy's in the HT setup and buy another pair for the family room. The Heresy's are as large as I'd go for the family room. My wife would prefer bookshelf speakers for the family room but I won't be using a subwoofer. Any ideas?
  12. I bought an old Soundcraftsmen model 5150 on Ebay. It's hard to get info on the Soundcraftsmen tube gear-- they're late 60's - early 70's SS stuff seems to be the collector's choice; however, I plugged this in yesterday and connected my Samsung DVD player to listen to some CD's. I connected my Heresy II's to the amp and was pleasantly surprised when the tubes lit up and music came bouncing out of those Heresy's. Even more surprising was how much bass it seemed to push through those Heresy's. Then I connected the Forte's. Wow! The bass was amazing. I played Diana Krall-- the upright bass was crystal clear and extremely detailed. Now I need a turntable! That amp sounds better than the Rotel 1068/1075 pair i just bought for my theater. I am now a converted tube believer!

  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5779429578 Anyone have an opinion on these Cornwalls listed on Ebay-- they're not to far from my home. First pair I've seen in Jersey!
  15. I won't be using a subwoofer. Just looking for a pair of speakers on the smaller side. I think my Heresy II's are a little too big.
