  1. This young buck hangs around our cabin. He doesn't seem to be afraid of me, loud music or my dog. The other morning He was on our back deck looking in the window. A loner this time of year while His antlers are in the felt.
  2. Neil at the K Rock Center Kingston Ontario 4/13/2009.
  3. Neil's driver took this pic of me standing by the bus.
  4. Never thought I would live to see the day. I have been waiting 22 years. The fan club took my money and gave me a confirmation number so it's the real deal. Should be delivered before the 6/2/09 street date. I saw Neil for the 31st time in Kingston Ontario on 4/13/09. Kingston is Neil's late fathers hometown. It was the first time Neil ever played in Kingston. I got to the hotel a day early. I was lucky enough to meet and get autograghs from the band. 1st pic is Neil getting on His bus to go to K Rock Center for sound check.
  5. My Dad was a well respected Buick Dealer from 1953 to 1971. He is probably turning over in His grave. Picture of the Dealership taken in 1955.
  6. I recently purchased a pair of Klipsch Heresy I speakers and a pristine Marantz 2285 receiver from the original owner. I was very impressed with how the Heresy's matched up with the Marantz 2285. My Marantz 2325 Receiver is to big to fit into our cabinet space but the 2285 will fit. What I was wondering if it would be possable to feed the audio signal from our Sony Bravia HD TV/ Sony DVD player into a vintage Marantz 2285 Stereo Receiver. I would also like to hook up a Marantz 5220 Cassette player and a marantz CD67SE CD player. My worry is that I only have 1 Aux input on the Receiver. Sure would be nice to listen to concert broadcasts through the Marantz and Heresy's. Any input would be welcome. Thanks
  7. I hope you are able to find a sucessful solution. My heart goes out to you. I have a progressive degenerative disc desease. My first lower back herniated disc happened about 15 years ago. I was lifting a 110 lb. object when a piece of a buldged disc fragmented into the nerve. I fell to the floor and couldn't get up. Because a piece had fragmented physical theropy wasn't an option. My surgeon suggested I put off surgery in the hopes that the fragment would disintegrate into smaller pieces. That is exactly what happened. When the piece broke into smaller pieces my pain level dropped alot. I was advised that surgery should be put off as long as possable. That after surgery disc scar tissue would end up putting presurre on the nerve resulting in more surgery, resulting in other discs rupturing. That eventually I would end up having to have the vertibrae pinned together losing the mobility that I have. I have had 3 ruptured discs since then. The worst one I lost all feeling in my leg and lost control of my bladder. I have been able to put off surgery so far. My surgeon told me that under no circumstance should I go to a chiropractor. That I would risk a fragment severing the nerve and ending up in a wheel chair. I ended up losing a 20 year factory job because of the disability. I have to be careful in every thing I do. Sometimes I take risks that I shouldn't(K horns/lascalas/Cornwalls). I am a recovering alcoholic and would like to stay sober so I opt not to take pain meds. In my 21 years of sobriety I have seen pain meds bring many AA members to a sad end. I haven't taken anything stronger than tylenol. I am never pain free. My pain level varys from low level to not being able to move. The worst has been herniated disc and strained back muscle pain at the same time. Once in a while I get depressed. Making a gratitude list and helping others nips the depression in the bud.
  8. My wife and I are going to see them in Rochester N.Y. Monday 3/16/09. My wife and I are long time Fleetwood Mac fans so we bought front row floor seats. If my calculations are correct we should be right in front of Stevie Nicks. Hope to get some good pics for my Rock n Roll scrap book.. We saw them on 5/15/03 in Buffalo N.Y. and they were great. Reading the revues at age 60 Stevie's voice hasn't lost anything. At age 59 Lindsey Buckingham is on fire. I am going to see Neil Young on 4/13/09 in Kingston ON. and again on 4/15/09 in London ON. The living Legends are Rockin the North East this year..
  9. This one missed us but I am still holding my breath. The worst ice storm in New York history hit on 3/3/1990. On 3/3/1999 a blizzard shut down interstate 90 from Buffalo to Albany.
  10. Same band as the 2008 North American Tour. 10 dates Starting 4/6/09. I will be attending the 4/13/09 Kingston ON. K Rock Center and the 4/15/09 London ON. John LaBatt Center.
  11. I agree 100%, the tabacco companies should be brought to a halt. To quote Neil Young " Like vampires sucking blood from the Earth". Another Neil Young line I should heed. " It's to late for generall Custer, to late for Robert E. Lee, I better get back on it before its to late for me". It's good work your doing If you don't accomplise anything else in your life, if you help just one child not to start, or help one to quit, Your life's work will be a huge success.
  12. I go on this rant in hopes it might help someone. I will be 55 in June. I smoke over 2 packs of Marlboro reds a day. I am alcoholic and have been sober for 20 years and 346 days. Thats to say that I have not had a drink of alchohol or mind altering drug of any kind. Thats saying alot in that I drank, and smoked Pot every day for 21 years. Form 1983 to 1988 I had a full blown valium addiction. When I first got sober I couldn't laugh or cry or see any color. I don't miss drinking or druging. That person that drank and drugged is like someone I used to know. I am happier now than I ever was as a child. I am originally from a remote farming area in Northern N.Y. Most of the guys I knew were smoking cigerettes by age 12. We all thought we could quit if we wanted to, the problem was we didn't want to. Why would we, 30 cents a pack with a machine in every gas station. There was even a cigerette machine in the all night laundermat. I quit cigerettes cold turkey in 1977 and stayed off them for 6 years. That whole 6 years I knew I was one cigerette away from 2 packs a day. Why did I light that first cigerette after 6 years ? It's a baffling question. Certainly not because of lack of will power. Maybe it was that old lie, I can quit again if I want to. Maybe because of my compulsive obsessive personality. Maybe because I liked playing with fire. In 1990 I quit again. I was mercy flighted to the hospital with a tempture of 106.7. I caught viral phnemonia, the same kind that killed Jim Henson. I was in a coma for 9 days. They read me my last rights and told my mother that if I survived I would have severe brain damage because my temp was to high for to long. When I came out of the coma the first thing I saw was my AA sponsor crying. He told me I was in the hospital and that every thing was OK. When I opened my eyes it was like someone turned the power back on. First words out of my mouth were do you have a cigerette and who's got my wallet. My lungs were damaged permantly as was a valve in my heart. After coming out of the coma it took a week to be strong enough to get out of bed. The doctors told me that if I started smoking again I wouldn't see age 40. I started smoking again 3 months after I got out of the hospital .In 2005 my wife started a 48 week interfron ribberviron treatment for Hep C. By the time she discovered she was sick she already had advanced chirrois. She was told that if she didn't smoke the treatment had a better chance of working. I wanted to give her the best possable chance so I quit . I quit this time for 11 months 26 days. Other than gaining alot of weight I didn't miss smoking and was enjoying being a non smoker. I tried not to show it but it hit me hard when her treatment was unsucessful. It was shortly after that the mental obsession returned. I fought it day and night for weeks. No amount of prayer would relive the obsession. The fact that I have emphasema was a mute point. I share all this in hopes that maybe you can try not to judge us so harshly. IMO those afflicted are not at fault. I quit drinking, my smoking got worse, I quit smoking my eating went out of control. My observation has been that to a man those with compulsive obsessive tendancies never get totally free. I suspect it is a manifestation of self centeredness. My only reprieve has been service to others and I got addicted to that to. Not addicted to Klipsch yet but I should watch for the warning signs. GOD grant me the serinity to accept that I won't live forever, The courage to age with grace, and the Wisdom to LOVE those who condemn me.
  13. Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey Martin dead at 68. Rest in peace.
  14. IMO the raw birch with the metal trim from Baldwinsville N.Y. were suspect. Spoke to the owner on the phone. He hadn't used them in years since his DJ business closed. I asked him if he could look in the bass bin and confirm that they were infact k 43's. He said the bottom screws were so rusted he couldn't get them out. Also 1 tweeter not working.
  15. This is some of the highest grade Hard cherry in the world. Mostly found in south western N.Y. and northeastern PA. These tree's will sell as veener logs if I can get them to the ground with out cracking them. I will have any interested buyers put in sealed bids. These trees will fetch about 1500.00 each.
  16. What I call face cords are 4' high, 8' long and pieces average 20 inches. I sell my face cords of hardwood for 37.50 CASH. The same face cord would sell for 75.00 in Buffalo. Pictured are face cords of beech which splits easy, seasons fast, and burns hot.
  17. Insulation? Our woodstove is heating our home most of the winter and we can barely get two cords through it. I would never move that much wood or waste that much heat. I have a hard time thinking of the waste from the two cords we burn every year. Ten to Twenty cords in one year? WOW! Greg We usually burn about 15 face cord a year. I don't measure every piece that I cut but they average about 20 inches. I can get approx 2 years or 30 facecord under the overhang. My firewood is stacked on pallets outside in the sun for 1 year before it goes under the overhang. Any bark that is going to fall off does in the first year. It is generally 3 years old by the time I burn it. Any more than 3 years it loses BTU value. Since my wife has been ill she can't take the cold and unless its 80 degrees she is shivering. I burn small hot fires rather than load the stove up for longer burns. I sell logs every 3rd year and the tops from those tree's keep me in firewood. One thing I found out about being retired is that projects aren't like having a job in that they always get finished. Harvesting timber and firewood is like a job for me. I guess you have to be a tree person and like the solitude of the woods. Something about falling a tree just does it for me. Maybe it's because of the dangerous nature of the work. I have landed tree's on numerous chain saws, and a truck but so far not on my self or anyone else. One cardinal rule I have is that if there is anyone else in the woods I won't start the saw. As far as insulation goes I've done the best I can.The addition I built has 16 inches of owens pink in the attic with turbine ventiators in the roof and ventiation in the soffits. 3/4 inch texture one eleven sheeting on the outside. Tongue and grove 5 1/2 inch cedar for the interior walls and ceiling. 6 inch owens pink in the walls. There is nothing I can do to insulate the cabin walls. Built with beech logs that absorb the heat and radiate it to the roof trusses which causes ice dams. The water under the ice would find a leak in the roofing if there was one. I ended up extending the roof overhangs on all walls. My main goal was to keep water off the logs. Because the roof doesnt have much of a pitch I decided to go with a bitumus torch down roof which eliminated any posability of leaks. Not very pretty but perfect for my application.
  18. It's been snowy but I have definately seen worse. This is my driveway out at the road last year after 3 days of lake effect.
  19. Anybody else heat with wood? We have burned about 10 face cord so far. About 25 cord in out of the weather under the over hang, HIckory, Hard Maple, Beech, and Hard Cherry.
  20. My best wishes go out to those that got the ice. We lucked out this time, just snow got 11 inches during the day. 6 to 8 more inches forcast for tonight. 30 mph winds, white out conditions. I had already plowed twice before I took these pics.
  21. I had never heard of Wilco until I saw them open for Neil Young in Toronto on 12/4/08 and 12/5/08. I just loved the song " Impossable Germany" Nels Cline guitar solo just blew me away.
  22. I had lots of watchers but got no offers. I figured the timing just wasn't right so I ended the auction. I just ordered some sonicaps from BEC to put in them. If your still interested when the weather breaks maybe I could meet you half way. I have family in northern N.Y.. St. Lawerance County which is a skip hop and a jump from Burlington.
