  1. Well, I checked out the Oppo website tonight only to find that the DV-981HD is backordered. [:(]

But...what's this...factory refurbished players for only $183? And they're in stock?? Dang, where's my credit card!! [:)]

Needless to say, my Oppo is ordered and on its way. [Y]

  2. Since I got my new TV last weekend I'm looking in to getting an upconverting DVD player. I also am concerned with the sound quality on audio CDs. I would probably sell both my Harman/Kardon DVD player and my Cambridge Audio CD player to get a new DVD player, as long as the DVD player played audio CDs well.

I really want to get an Oppo after reading all the reviews but I was curious as to anyone's personal experience with them.

{edit} I just was looking at their site and I see that they have a new player, model DV-981HD 1080p High Definition Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI. Its only $229.

  3. the guy rapped them in bubble rap and put them in u-haul boxes and sent them ups ground from belmont mass to st.louis thats what i got. now what are la scalas? would they work good with the klf-30

Are you looking to have speakers that you'll listen to in addition to your KLF-30s? I'm not sure what you mean by "Would they work good with the klf-30"? Are you going to use them in a surround system?

If you're simply looking to add another pair of speakers to listen to at the same time, I can think of many people on here that would discourage you from doing that. There's many reasons why it usually doesn't sound very good. Now, if you're looking to get more speakers to use as surround speakers that's a different story.

  4. Your center channel is an important speaker in a multi-channel setup. Its probably the most critical one you have. I would imagine that the sensitivity of the RC-52 will be higher than your SF-1s so it will play louder than them. Most receivers have the ability to compensate for that and will let you adjust the level of the center channel to match the output of the other speakers.

It probably won't be a case of "Oh my God there's a gigantic difference in sound between the speakers!", more than likely it will be "I can tell there's a difference but I can live with it for now."

  5. Most on here would recommend Marantz. I don't have any experience with Marantz except a component system that I bought years ago. I kind of wish I still had it, as it was a pre-amp, tuner and power amp separate system. I would love to see what it sounds like with my Klipsch!

  6. It depends. If you think there's a possibility in the future that you might upgrade your other speakers to Reference speakers, go for the RC-52. If you think you'll probably stick with the Synergy line now and in the future go for the SC-1 or even SC-2.

  7. Are you getting rid of your KLF-30s or are you looking to get a second pair for a second audio system?

If you like the 3 way design of the KLFs, Fortes or Chorus' are excellent examples that can be had for $400-800 depending on model and condition.

  8. Wuzzer and Arky- a couple of the really good folks here on the Forum. Always get nice posts from you two, polite, good advice and friendly. And gentle with the newcomers.

Hope y'all can make it to the Pilgrimage in Indy this year.

  9. I know I've got a ways to go to catch up to certain people here, but it seems like only yesterday I was signing up and making my first few posts.

Fortunately I've learned a lot and have been able to 'meet' several very nice people on here!

  10. I just received this disc in the mail today. I'm home on my hour supper break and thought I'd throw it in for a listen.

I literally have been looking for years for a well-recorded CD of orchestral music that has a 'you are there' recording level. Well, I'VE FOUND IT!

The bass that is on this CD is some of the loudest, lowest, most intense that I've ever heard or FELT!

Thank you very much justin_tx_16 and TheEar for recommending it!!
