  1. They're not computer-controlled lights. None of that is actually happening in realtime. It's a stop-motion video. If you look to the upper-left behind the house, you'll see a neighboring house's light go on and off consistently with certain lights.

Did you even start to read what someone else had posted about this:

    WRONG, WRONG and MORE WRONG!!!!

Look at the left side of the house, and notice that tower in the distance with the white blinking "airplane light". It blinks constantly, at about a second interval, through-out the video. If somebody was screwing around with the video footage with a digital video editing program, they would definitly messed up that blinking light in the background. I highly doubt anybody is that good with such a program to prevent that from messing up. That video is indeed legit. The seemingly jumping around vegetation at the bottom is just simply an artifact of the compression (which that guy had to compress quite a bit to make it managable for upload - would love to see a the full resolution video, or better yet, see the actual display - wonder if he is doing it again this year. Damn shame he doesn't say where he is at in the PlanetChristmas forum)

And for farther proof, I found this thread on ChristmasPlanet.com where the guy (one Mr. Carson Williams) that did the display started. According to him, it consists of some 16,000 lights and uses 88 Light-O-Rama (LOR) channels. He did it for last years (2004) Christmas. It seems Light-O-Rama is some outfit that makes programmable controllers and associated software. This is all done to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizards of Winter" track, form thier The Lost Christmas Eve album. Anybody with a little patience and technical know-how can pull this off.

I am certainly impressed, and has me inspired to want to try something like that!

There you go, Mr. Skeptic. [:@]

  2. I'd really like to upgrade to a different subwoofer such as the Sub-12. Most of the subwoofers I've been looking at don't have any RCA outputs, though. I like having the subwoofer amplify the bass and leave the rest for my HK to amplify.

I used to use the high level input/output on my sub when I had my Sony receiver hooked up because it didn't have any pre-outs.

So why don't more subwoofers have an output section?

  5. What's wrong with watching movies on nice speakers? If anyone else on here is like me, they have the volume turned up LOUD for most movies. Why not have speakers that can handle it and sound great at the same time?

Highest speed limit you'll find in the U.S. is 70mph on some interstates. Are you going to be confused by everyone who drives something other than a Geo Metro? I mean, what's the point of having a car that can do over 70mph if there isn't anywhere legally you can drive that fast?

  6. Might be the fact that they're some of the heaviest speakers Klipsch makes. Some macho sales guy thinks he can move them by himself.

Or maybe the macho customer trying to convince his wife to get them. "See, honey, I can lift them all by myself....oops! Sorry about that! Hey, you guys ever do scratch and dent sales?"

  7. I've had my best success selling things on eBay with auctions that start at $1.00 with no reserve. I was going to put a $75 buy-it-now on a pair of Definitive Technology surround speakers and they ended up selling for over $200!

Just be sure to take plenty of pictures and describe any defects in the speakers in detail. Also, try and end the auction on the weekend in the evening, around 9-10pm or so.

Trust me, they'll sell for what they're worth. There's enough people on eBay these days that you'll get what you want for them, and maybe more!

  8. Its not a very long run, 3 feet at most. I just won a set of Monster Cables on eBay for $3.01. I'll be looking for another set and then I'll see how it goes.

I used to have cables coming out my ears. I guess the last couple times I've moved they got legs. [:(]

  9. Right now I have two sets of pretty thin, generic interconnect cables going from my HK 730 to my subwoofer and then back to the 730 (pre-out, pre-in loop).

Would I notice any improvement in sound if I purchased a decent set of cables? I know that with speaker cables the general consensus is not to worry too much about them. Is the same true with interconnects (RCA cables)?
