  1. Thanks guys, In my haste to figure this out,i went straight home after the post and "gutted"my speakers, the woofers, tweeters, connection all looked fine.however i did notice that 1 to 2 screws on all woofers(both speakers)were pulled through, the were i the cabinets but the little "ears"on the woofer themselves were damaged to the point that the screws were not grabbing anything. I dont know how this would affect sound quality, with the tweeter?cant imagine, but i would think maybe this could affect midrange sound?if the speaker wasnt held in the cabinet as tightly as it should be.Anyway i got some fancy countersunk brass washers with slightly larger brass countersunk screws,re ran ypao(the yamaha auto eq feature)and my pea brain tells me the sound is much improved!!!who knows.the highs sound better as well as midrange, maybe i had loose connections that i didnt notice.i did tighten all the little spade connectors before i reconnected. I di contact klipsch support as was told there was not a tweeter upgrade on the rf-311's(i read that there was online)however the klipsch site says my rf-3ii's should have k-105-k1 tweeters,my tweeter says k-124-k.does that mean my tweeters have been replaced with the incorrect tweeters?in other words is it possible my tweeters and crossovers dont match? BTW, now im really interested in the crossover mod.I NEED THAT!!!!where can i get more info on this? falcon, you gotta lotta nerve hording all the rf7's.Rf7's in a "SPARE SYSTEM"come on man[:'(] Thanks Dean
  2. Klipsch would probably only hear of the problem if was damaged from Klipsch to the Dealer(i.e.Vanns) The complaint from that point would go to the dealer from where these originated. Dean
  3. I dealt with the same thing when i purchased rf-3ii's off of ebay.i actually got new screws this morning to try to fix them with.My woofers pulled through the screw, didnt actually break the tabs off. UPS said these were "improperly packaged"as well, then found that the guy i bought them from dropped them off at a ups store to have them packed!!The guy i bought from issued me a full refund and got his money from ups.So i ended up with free speakers[:$] I think the problem is that these speakers arent designed to be shipped ups or fed ex.when a dealer orders them im sure the come truck freight.then you walk into dealer and put'em in your trunk. Klipsch should issue a statement that buying these and shipping them rather than buying at local dealer will be "at your own risk" i really dont see any fault on klipsch. im wanted to upgrade to some rf-7's,but unless i can find them within driving distance, forget it,unfortunantly their is not much klipsch stuff in Alabama!!! Thanks and sorry about your troubles,i agree that ill bet vanns will make it rright
  4. Hey Guys. I have a old set of of Rf3II's.Rc3II,cdt5800c surround.Yamaha rx-v1800 receiver and hsu vtfmk3 ho and mbm12. Speakers are set to small with the subs picking up at 80 hz. I notice that the mids and highs dont sound as well as they used to. I received the speakers damaged via ups(cracked grill pins, mashed corner.lower woofer on one speaker had become loose.(1 screw pulled out of cabinet) I repaired the lower woofer and they seemed to sound fine. i also noticed that the small nuts on the back of the binding posts had become loose,i tightened all these also I would like to gut these old boys, check the woofers and horns just to satisfy my curiousity. What is the best way to check all this? AA or AAA battery on woofers, ohm meter on tweeters?will this reveal problems if present? Can you check the crossovers? Thanks Dean P.s. i have thought of replacing these(rf7,rf 83,MA rs6 or rs8's)but i really like these speakers,i would just like to be 100% sure that they are 100% I
  5. Thanks. i did move the equipment rack and speakers last night. It was so late when i was done that i didnt have time to really listen to anything. Tonight ill try to rerun ypao and see what ive got. Thanks Dean
  6. I have the Fr-3II's about 13 feet apart.my listening position is 13 feet from the center channel speaker (Rc-3II) The imaging is quite nice but i have a need to move the fronts about a foot and a half (each)inward.total of 2.5 to three feet closer together. I cant move the listening position,so ill be 13 feet from center and mains will be about 10 feet apart. before i can do this ill have to move my equipment rack.(No easy task)so can anyone tell me if this will have a major negative impact on imaging?before i just "try and see?" My receiver as the yamaha rx-v1800 with the ypao auto eq so it does pretty well on distance, eqing etc. Thanks dean
  7. I moved the speakers a llittle closer last night and the problem seems to improve slightly but im not there yet. Ive got my mind stuck on the problem could be that the left is about 2 foot further from the side wall than the right as well as the left opens up to the stairwell. I did not re eq(re eq,redo, reeeeeeeqqq, now thats funny) anyway ill try to re run the ypao tonight and manually check the volumes with db meter to see if that helps.i would think if the problem was with the side walls in reference to the speakers the parametric eq and acoustic panels could offset some of this. Thanks Again will ree-q tonight Dean
  8. The receiver is a Yamaha rx-v1800. I set it up using the test tones and radio shack spl meter, set everything to 75 db.with the mic at the center position at ear level (center cushion)of the sofa.i have also ran the ypao(yamahas auto setup feature)and get the same results.im hoping the problem is speakers too close or too far apart,im getting suggestions both ways on other sites. I hope this answers your question if not please ask. p.s.all speakers set to small, xover at 90hz to subs
  9. I really cant move my lp back as i just moved it up about a foot when i read about the 38% rule to get out of a bass null.this did make a HUGE improvement in bass response.I will try to move the fronts closer and see what that does.I was told on another site (avsforum)that they were way too close together, that since my room was 22 feet wide they needed to be at least 12 feet apart? I will try Thanks Dean
  10. Hi all. I need help to get my front left and right speakers set up. I have the Rf-3II's with the rc3II center,my problem is i can find the sweet spot for the fronts, I do have them toed in and have played with this many times but cant seem to get it right,i had synergy f2's before and they did fine. Sitting on the right side of my sofa(my normal listening position) the right front is too dominate.same for the left.i have acoustic panels at the first reflection points and have eq'ed everything,i have the yamaha rx-v1800 receiver and have run the ypao many times as well as manually setup with db meter. this isnt as noticable when in 5.1 because the center fills in but on tv programs that are 2 channel or 2 channel music its very noticeable,i know im trying to get 2 sweet spots left side of sofa and right side of sofa which isnt going to happen but i would think i should be able to get the imaging a little wider as the cheaper f2s seems to do an ok job. My room is 22x 22.listening position @ 38% of room is 8.5 to 9 feet from front wall, fronts are 9 feet apart toed in.one problem to note is that the right speaker is about 5 feet from side wall and the left is about 8 feet this is due to the left side opening going up the stairs(its a basement room) any thoughts on how i may improve on this? Thanks Dean
  11. Thanks for clearing that up ,so a 12 gauge speaker wire and leaving the stock metal straps in place is going to be about as good as it gets?Im actually very happy with my sound but always willing to try anything that would improve results(including buying your rf-7's at a deal!!!hahaha) Dean
  12. Well of course ive got you confused,i have no idea what im talking about!! As far as what ive read you remove the jumper(strap)between the two sets of binding post.run one set of wires to one set of binding post(tweeter)to the receiver, and the other to the remaining set of binding post(woofers)to the receiver and disconnect the crossover in the speaker to allow the receiver to crossover the frequencies to the appropriate speaker. The second question was if you dont biwire, ive read that doing away with the stock metal "strap"and replacing it with a quality speaker wire jumper instead will tame the tweeter.this seems to me impossible but thoght it was worth asking Thanks and now we should all be confused.what do i want, what do i mean?i have no idea!
  13. i dont know how well they'd blend with your surrounds and center, but id opt for the rf-82's.Ive replaced synergy sb-1's with rf-3II's and couldnt possibly describe the difference.I'm totally amazed with the clarity of the rf-3ii's of course this depends on your signal source,im using the yamaha rx-v1800 and anone who has heard my system is blown away with the sound, honestly its like the performer is righ there in front of you,ive had it so loud it'l almost run you out of the room and still no distortion. The 82's are an upgraded version of the 3II's to the best of my understanding so my vote goes with these (though im a little bias) just my 2 cents Dean
  14. From what i understand if you bi-wire you bypass the crossovers in the speakers and let the receiver or amp do the work. Does this make any difference?I have no idea Of course you can find post stating"made my speakers come alive"as well as post stating "not worth the effort" i guess im lazy or would rather spend time enjoying my speakers as opposed to to wiring.Unless i know its worth the effort. Thanks Dean
  15. Hi All I was wondering if bi wiring Rf-3II's is worth the trouble? I know their is alot of general posts about this but wondering if anyone has noticed much difference using Rf3II's and a yamaha Rx-v1800 rec. Also ive read that pulling the stock "straps" and jumpering with better wire makes a "noticeable"improvement if not bi wiring.Any experience with this?? Thanks Dean
