  1. Thanks guys, In my haste to figure this out,i went straight home after the post and "gutted"my speakers, the woofers, tweeters, connection all looked fine.however i did notice that 1 to 2 screws on all woofers(both speakers)were pulled through, the were i the cabinets but the little "ears"on the woofer themselves were damaged to the point that the screws were not grabbing anything. I dont know how this would affect sound quality, with the tweeter?cant imagine, but i would think maybe this could affect midrange sound?if the speaker wasnt held in the cabinet as tightly as it should be.Anyway i got some fancy countersunk brass washers with slightly larger brass countersunk screws,re ran ypao(the yamaha auto eq feature)and my pea brain tells me the sound is much improved!!!who knows.the highs sound better as well as midrange, maybe i had loose connections that i didnt notice.i did tighten all the little spade connectors before i reconnected. I di contact klipsch support as was told there was not a tweeter upgrade on the rf-311's(i read that there was online)however the klipsch site says my rf-3ii's should have k-105-k1 tweeters,my tweeter says k-124-k.does that mean my tweeters have been replaced with the incorrect tweeters?in other words is it possible my tweeters and crossovers dont match? BTW, now im really interested in the crossover mod.I NEED THAT!!!!where can i get more info on this? falcon, you gotta lotta nerve hording all the rf7's.Rf7's in a "SPARE SYSTEM"come on man[:'(] Thanks Dean
  2. Klipsch would probably only hear of the problem if was damaged from Klipsch to the Dealer(i.e.Vanns) The complaint from that point would go to the dealer from where these originated. Dean
  3. I dealt with the same thing when i purchased rf-3ii's off of ebay.i actually got new screws this morning to try to fix them with.My woofers pulled through the screw, didnt actually break the tabs off. UPS said these were "improperly packaged"as well, then found that the guy i bought them from dropped them off at a ups store to have them packed!!The guy i bought from issued me a full refund and got his money from ups.So i ended up with free speakers[:$] I think the problem is that these speakers arent designed to be shipped ups or fed ex.when a dealer orders them im sure the come truck freight.then you walk into dealer and put'em in your trunk. Klipsch should issue a statement that buying these and shipping them rather than buying at local dealer will be "at your own risk" i really dont see any fault on klipsch. im wanted to upgrade to some rf-7's,but unless i can find them within driving distance, forget it,unfortunantly their is not much klipsch stuff in Alabama!!! Thanks and sorry about your troubles,i agree that ill bet vanns will make it rright
  4. Hey Guys. I have a old set of of Rf3II's.Rc3II,cdt5800c surround.Yamaha rx-v1800 receiver and hsu vtfmk3 ho and mbm12. Speakers are set to small with the subs picking up at 80 hz. I notice that the mids and highs dont sound as well as they used to. I received the speakers damaged via ups(cracked grill pins, mashed corner.lower woofer on one speaker had become loose.(1 screw pulled out of cabinet) I repaired the lower woofer and they seemed to sound fine. i also noticed that the small nuts on the back of the binding posts had become loose,i tightened all these also I would like to gut these old boys, check the woofers and horns just to satisfy my curiousity. What is the best way to check all this? AA or AAA battery on woofers, ohm meter on tweeters?will this reveal problems if present? Can you check the crossovers? Thanks Dean P.s. i have thought of replacing these(rf7,rf 83,MA rs6 or rs8's)but i really like these speakers,i would just like to be 100% sure that they are 100% I
  5. Thanks. i did move the equipment rack and speakers last night. It was so late when i was done that i didnt have time to really listen to anything. Tonight ill try to rerun ypao and see what ive got. Thanks Dean
  6. I have the Fr-3II's about 13 feet apart.my listening position is 13 feet from the center channel speaker (Rc-3II) The imaging is quite nice but i have a need to move the fronts about a foot and a half (each)inward.total of 2.5 to three feet closer together. I cant move the listening position,so ill be 13 feet from center and mains will be about 10 feet apart. before i can do this ill have to move my equipment rack.(No easy task)so can anyone tell me if this will have a major negative impact on imaging?before i just "try and see?" My receiver as the yamaha rx-v1800 with the ypao auto eq so it does pretty well on distance, eqing etc. Thanks dean
  7. I moved the speakers a llittle closer last night and the problem seems to improve slightly but im not there yet. Ive got my mind stuck on the problem could be that the left is about 2 foot further from the side wall than the right as well as the left opens up to the stairwell. I did not re eq(re eq,redo, reeeeeeeqqq, now thats funny) anyway ill try to re run the ypao tonight and manually check the volumes with db meter to see if that helps.i would think if the problem was with the side walls in reference to the speakers the parametric eq and acoustic panels could offset some of this. Thanks Again will ree-q tonight Dean
  8. The receiver is a Yamaha rx-v1800. I set it up using the test tones and radio shack spl meter, set everything to 75 db.with the mic at the center position at ear level (center cushion)of the sofa.i have also ran the ypao(yamahas auto setup feature)and get the same results.im hoping the problem is speakers too close or too far apart,im getting suggestions both ways on other sites. I hope this answers your question if not please ask. p.s.all speakers set to small, xover at 90hz to subs
  9. I really cant move my lp back as i just moved it up about a foot when i read about the 38% rule to get out of a bass null.this did make a HUGE improvement in bass response.I will try to move the fronts closer and see what that does.I was told on another site (avsforum)that they were way too close together, that since my room was 22 feet wide they needed to be at least 12 feet apart? I will try Thanks Dean
  10. Hi all. I need help to get my front left and right speakers set up. I have the Rf-3II's with the rc3II center,my problem is i can find the sweet spot for the fronts, I do have them toed in and have played with this many times but cant seem to get it right,i had synergy f2's before and they did fine. Sitting on the right side of my sofa(my normal listening position) the right front is too dominate.same for the left.i have acoustic panels at the first reflection points and have eq'ed everything,i have the yamaha rx-v1800 receiver and have run the ypao many times as well as manually setup with db meter. this isnt as noticable when in 5.1 because the center fills in but on tv programs that are 2 channel or 2 channel music its very noticeable,i know im trying to get 2 sweet spots left side of sofa and right side of sofa which isnt going to happen but i would think i should be able to get the imaging a little wider as the cheaper f2s seems to do an ok job. My room is 22x 22.listening position @ 38% of room is 8.5 to 9 feet from front wall, fronts are 9 feet apart toed in.one problem to note is that the right speaker is about 5 feet from side wall and the left is about 8 feet this is due to the left side opening going up the stairs(its a basement room) any thoughts on how i may improve on this? Thanks Dean
  11. Thanks for clearing that up ,so a 12 gauge speaker wire and leaving the stock metal straps in place is going to be about as good as it gets?Im actually very happy with my sound but always willing to try anything that would improve results(including buying your rf-7's at a deal!!!hahaha) Dean
  12. Well of course ive got you confused,i have no idea what im talking about!! As far as what ive read you remove the jumper(strap)between the two sets of binding post.run one set of wires to one set of binding post(tweeter)to the receiver, and the other to the remaining set of binding post(woofers)to the receiver and disconnect the crossover in the speaker to allow the receiver to crossover the frequencies to the appropriate speaker. The second question was if you dont biwire, ive read that doing away with the stock metal "strap"and replacing it with a quality speaker wire jumper instead will tame the tweeter.this seems to me impossible but thoght it was worth asking Thanks and now we should all be confused.what do i want, what do i mean?i have no idea!
  13. i dont know how well they'd blend with your surrounds and center, but id opt for the rf-82's.Ive replaced synergy sb-1's with rf-3II's and couldnt possibly describe the difference.I'm totally amazed with the clarity of the rf-3ii's of course this depends on your signal source,im using the yamaha rx-v1800 and anone who has heard my system is blown away with the sound, honestly its like the performer is righ there in front of you,ive had it so loud it'l almost run you out of the room and still no distortion. The 82's are an upgraded version of the 3II's to the best of my understanding so my vote goes with these (though im a little bias) just my 2 cents Dean
  14. From what i understand if you bi-wire you bypass the crossovers in the speakers and let the receiver or amp do the work. Does this make any difference?I have no idea Of course you can find post stating"made my speakers come alive"as well as post stating "not worth the effort" i guess im lazy or would rather spend time enjoying my speakers as opposed to to wiring.Unless i know its worth the effort. Thanks Dean
  15. Hi All I was wondering if bi wiring Rf-3II's is worth the trouble? I know their is alot of general posts about this but wondering if anyone has noticed much difference using Rf3II's and a yamaha Rx-v1800 rec. Also ive read that pulling the stock "straps" and jumpering with better wire makes a "noticeable"improvement if not bi wiring.Any experience with this?? Thanks Dean
  16. Does anyone know if klipsch offers replacement parts for their speakers?Namely grills and the little feet for the rf-3's Thanks Dean
  17. I have a ksw-12.ive got twos sub outputs from a sony str-de925 rec.with only one going to the l/lfe input to the sub, is this correct, also i have the sub x-over turned all the way clockwise(allowing the rec.to send signal to sub??? do i not need another cable goig to the ®input on sub?if so do i just run this from the remaining sub output of the receiver?? Help Dean
  18. Can i ask a question from someone elses thread??? I too have a ksw-12.ive got twos sub outputs from a sony str-de925 rec.with only one going to the l/lfe input to the sub is this correct, also have the sub x-over turned all the way clockwise(allowing the rec.to send signal to sub??? do i not need another cable goig to the ®input on sub?if so do i just run this from the remaining sub output of the receiver?? Help
  19. Thanks for all the reply's.I guess im now on the hunt.Tnanks
  20. Wow!i like your setup EAGLES and all I keep reading about the importance of "toe in"on the rf-35's looks like you've done this. I was concerned about center channel, yours being so low, does this still sound ok?im going to have to do the same thing unless i wall mount above tv and didnt really want to do this unless i had to. Do you know anything about the older rf-3 setup?wondering if its close to same as rf-35's Thanks for the reply Dean
  21. Im upgrading my old klipsch synergy series system,am looking around used hoping to build a nice ht system without breaking the bank. Looking at Rf-3,Rc-3 Rs-3 and either rsw-10 or rsw-10d.is the difference in these two subs worth the extra money?or an svs pb12 plus and the yamaha rx-v1800 or 3800. Also looking at rf-35,rc-35,rs 35 with same sub choices and same reciever. I dont know any major differences between these different models so i dont know if one would suit me better or not? Cant really spring for the new 82's right now so im thinking these might satisfy me. Room is 23x23x8 id like a pretty darned impressive system for 95% movies with clean/clear sound.have a ksw-12 sub now but have heard the new rsw-10d will blow the 12 away?dont know about the older rsw-10. PLEASE ADVICE im tired of comparing specs and no one in my area know anything about klipsch so this is all internet work
  22. Hello I'm in the process of updating my synergy series speakers. Looking at the rf-35,rs-35,rc-35,rw-12 and the newer rf-62,rc-62,rs-52,rw-12d are their any pro's/cons with either of these two setups or would i be generally as happy with one or the other? room 23.5 feet by 23.5 feet 8 foot ceiling Thanks Dean
  23. I unfortunatly dont know the meaning of the term "budget"i obsess.i find something that i "have" to have and, well, have to have it? With speaker purchasing though, i dont know enough about these models to what i have to have. I would like to have an top notch system in the low to mid 2k price range unless another 500 to 1000 dollars would make a huge difference. I guess id like to find a last years or few years old model that would suffice for what im trying to accomplish as i need to get the sony blk pearl front projector($3500)yamaha rx-v 1800 ($1000) screen(???) theater seating and some sort of sound treatment for the walls(tongue and groove wood walls) I have tried to include a very crude room layout.if it works you can see my concern with the left rear surround.
  24. Well thanks for all the responses and for making me realize i got myself a kiddie system!!haha I think im conviced that i need to upgrade. I dont want to purchase alot of overkill mainly because this will be strictly theater almost no music listening or at least at any kind of volume also i dont want to spend a fortune on more than i need because i still need to do the projector thing as well as some sort of acoustical treatment.these basement walls are tongue and groove cedar so id imagine this is even worse than drywall and without any windows or window treatments. ok so i need new fronts and center first? 6 inch woofers rf-63 and rc-62 or 64 as far as rears bookshelfs or surrounds?i really like the looks of the rs-52's do i need to match these with a 6" as well or will the 52's suffice, what about rf-62 fronts?whats the difference between the rw12 and rsw sub?will my ksw12 sub suffice until i can get around to replacing it? Holy smokes this has gotten confusing.......So i should do fronts then center then rears then surrounds then sub in this order is this correct?? THanks Again Dean
  25. Hello All, Ive recently moved again and finally have a finished basement that will be a dedicated theater room(22x22) Now to my dilemma.. i have synergy series speakers sc-1 center,sb-1 bookshelf fronts,ss.5 surrounds that until now have been used for rears and a ksw-12 sub.I started off to shop for a new 7.1 reciever(looking at the yamaha rx-v1800)and getting sf-1 or sf-2 floorstanding spekers for fronts, moving the sb-1's to the rear and using the ss.5's to the left and right of the seating position. After reading and researching im torn is this my best bang for the buck or should i replace everything with reference series?I NEED the receiver as my old receiver is showing its age and occasionally gives me problems namely the volume half the time wont work with the remote and i WANT a front projector, currently have a 6 month old sony 50"sxrd.i could make do with the tv if the speaker upgrade to reference series would be daylight/dark difference or should i just upgrade the front synergy's and do the projector thing. I know this will be subjective but i have nowhere locally that i can hear the refrence speakers so i have no idea how much better they are than the synergy's Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Dean
