  1. Ah, tube amps! The joy of bad resistors, caps, tubes, tube rolling, biasing, distortion, feeble highs, weak lows, but "glorious mids!" What have I been missing with my 30 year old Pioneer SX-1250 that has never been in the shop! Dust it out, keep it covered when not in use, and a little pot spray/lubricant now and then. It will probably blow up tomorrow but for now, I would rather turn it on and enjoy the music like I have since it was new then worry everytime the tubes warm up! I have a Yamaha RX-777 receiver that hasn't missed a beat either and sounds great! Caveat, would love to have an old Mac and I wouldn't trade my 1974 SUNN Model T Tube guitar amp for any SS amp! Is this a paradox or a paradigm or a dicotomy???
  2. I stick with Fenders. Like the single coil sound and bite of a Telecaster. However, Peter Green could sure get some tone out of that LP! Gary Moore has his original guitar now. Green modified the pick-ups somehow, some say he wound them in reverse. Find Fleetwood Mac, "live at the Boston Tea Party" and listen to Rattlesnake Shake and Jumping at Shadows. Tone, Tone, Tone!!! Long live "The Green God"!!!
  3. Was he " picken on that red guitar"? M
  4. I thought about using them for anchors! Just kidding, they are actually a pretty nice speaker. A bit on the bright side however.
  5. How cool is that! Got to sell some stuff. Have some Advents, re-issue originals, nice! Also have JBL L36's, re-finished with tug oil. Have extra woofers and mids. Some water stains on the bottom, top and sides great, new black grill cloth. Woofers have becent surrounds. Going to the Bay Area today if anyone is interested. Advents are on Audiogon, name is Jenkster. Mark
  6. Found another nice pair of Heresy's. Why do I need them???
  7. "A shot in the dark" The second Pink Panther movie. Peter Sellers was a comic genious! If you can find it, "The Party", also with Sellers.
  8. Don't think you would consider Huble Pie a Metal band but Steve Marriott, I know he was also a Face, could get up there! Guitarists, "The Green God"!!!!!!! Mark
  9. Mid 90's Tama Artstars. 5 piece kit, one ride, two floors ala Bonham, Appice, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa etc......Z A customs with new beat hats, King Cobra double petal Use to have a kit like Neil Peart, surrouded by drums! Got older, don't like to haul that much equipment anymore! Guy with the Corns wants to let the auction play out. May just have to wait and see what happens? Even offered to trade him a nice USA Strat. I like my re-issue 52 Tele better! Worked for Page and Clapton before they were "Gods."
  10. I long for the day that we are not bound by wire! Hopefully they have perfected it!
  11. Love those clear Ludwigs, I think they called it visalite or something like that? I miss my old Rogers kit
  12. Thanks guys! Serial numbers 7N146 and 147.
  13. Found a pair of 75 Cornwalls relatively close to home, driving distance. They look to be in decent shape, $600. Good year and price? Mark
  14. I would pull out the dead woofer and check that the wires are connected to the terminals properly. I bought a new pair of RB-75's that had a loose wire on one woofer. As far as the different sound from the top and bottom woofer, I will leave that one to the experts.
  15. Hey, Character matters and Dean you are obviously a man of character! I will give all options serious consideration! Mark
  16. I will certainly give it strong consideration!
  17. I haven't looked inside the cabinet. Would there be any soldering involved in swapping the original crossovers with Chris'?
  18. I am using Straightwire inter-connects which seem to work very well. The biggest improvement is my Entech 2.3 DAC hooked to my Sony 300 disc mega-changer. Much more articulate and better sepaaration of vocals and instruments. Tightened the bass up too.
  19. Thanks a bunch man! My kit is currently set up at my buddies place about 30 miles away from here. I have a mid 90's Tama Artstar kit, 5 piece with one 13" ride tom, 14" and 16" floors, 22" kick ala Buddy Rich. I am using Z A-customs, 22" ping ride, 18" and 19" crashes with new beat 15" hats, iron Cobra petal with a custom wood snare. Will try to get a picture next week, going out of town this weekend, NO GIGS!
  20. Forte' I serial numbers are; 8753989 8753990 Are they 1987's or? Also, they sound great but will they be needing a crossover update soon? Thanks!
  21. Got to be too much power! My old K-horns had blown woofers, mids and tweeters when I got them. Did pay next to nothing for them. The guy was using DIY Hafler mono blocks, 300 watts at 8 ohms a side! The tweeker ran them full bore on a binge one weekend. Do the math! I would be very careful! Some guys think they are indestructable!
  22. Hey Duke, I also have a pair of L-36's along with my Heresy's and Forte's. I know where there is a pair of JBL L200b studio masters for sale. They are in nice shape. The guy has Heil Air Motion Transformers, of ESS fame, on top of the 200's, hooked up to the B side of his cheap Sansui amp? He has some kind of resistor or cap. in the loop. The surprising thing is, it sounds pretty good??? The L200b's are nice but they do need help in the top end, IMHO. I too had Valencia's at one time which had much better highs. Put about 300 clean watts behind them and I may change my mind!
  23. I hate to ask but, any opinions on good, inexpensive, speaker cables for my Forte's? Short run from a 100 watt Yamaha receiver. I am currently using 12 gauge Acoustic Research cable with bananas.
