  1. Looks like you'll get them, it has to be close to 75lbs worth! We are a UPS shipper where I work, so shipping them is not a problem. Paying for the shipping..................[] Email me at nhoj19@juno.com
  2. Free, to a good home. They're from the 80's. I'm going to toss them unless anybody wants them, about 2 milk crates full. Shipping might cost you a few bucks.
  3. My 1981 Cornwalls had Type B2T crossover, K77M Tweeters, K55V Squakers/Horns, K33E Square Magnet Wooofers. I replaced the Woofers with some new round magnet K33E because one of the originals had a small hole poked in it. I also replaced the crossovers with a pair BEC's.
  4. All I can say about the speakers is WOW! He had some fun desiging the cabinets for the Empire and the subwoofer. They would look great in my Gotham City apartment.
  5. I have a pair of Cornwalls with BEC crossovers, HSU VTF-Mk3 subwoofer, and an old Pioneer SA 8800 intergrated amp for my garage system. I plays plenty loud and packs quite a wallop.
  6. I doubt if it is the belt, if it even has one to operate the tray opening and closing. What ever latches the tray closed won't let go, makes a clicking noise. If I monkey with it for awhile it will open, but it is not a pretty sight. It closes by itself just fine. It just won't un-latch. I took some junk Sony apart a few weeks ago and it wasn't a very sucessful operation. The timing of the gears seems to be critical. I was using it for practice.
  7. A buddy of mine moved there for 18 months, worked on snowmobiles and stuff. He went crazy and they kicked him off as soon as they could.
  8. Anybody have any recommendation on who to have repair my Yamaha CDC-845 CD player? It is mint but for some reason the tray doesn't want to open unless you "help" it. I purchased it new at least 8 years ago. There is really no reason for it to fail but it has. I guess I could replace it a newer model or some other brand, but it has some nice features Like the door with the controls on it, volume control, and display dimmer. Any help?
  9. There is no way I'm going to spend $1,400 on them. It would be more like $2,000 by the time I shipped those things out there and back anyway. I am now on a mission to find the correct driver for it. I should be able to get one for less then $50.00 including shipping.
  10. Thanks for the info. It is an 8inch (I think) cone type driver. I can feel the shape of it through the pain in the *** cloth that covers them. I need to take them apart, just haven't gotten around to it yet. They do need an arc welder to power them.
  11. I'm using a Pioneer SA-8800 out in my garage. It had been sitting idle for a least ten years until I "found" it upstairs in the attic. Cleaned it up a little and fired it up. I think I traded a Marantz 2220B for it about 23 years ago.
  12. So, I found some type of Vandersteen forum, some guy was talking about having to break in his new Vandersteens for 120 hours![] What do they have to do, wear down a path for the electrons? Lap the voice coils in? Settle the cabinets? I slapped new K33E drivers and Mr. Crites crossovers in them and tortured them right off the bat!
  13. Thank you, that is the kind of information I was looking for.
  14. So, you would say the round magnet type are better than the square?
  15. One round and one square one would bug me to death! Do you still have them, or did you move them out?
  16. Should I replace the old square magnet K33E with a new round magnet K33E? Is one better than the other? I like the funky look of the square magnet, sure, you can't see it in there, but you know which one is in there. The square one seems to have a bit more weight to it. One of the old ones has a 1inch cut in it, that is why it may be replaced. Any thoughts?
  17. For that $1400.00 they update them from a Model 3 to a model 3A Signature or some fancy name. They work very well in the home theater situation. I just spent $440.00 on new parts for my "free" Cornwalls. I like to run a tight ship here. I believe I read somewhere that Vandersteen uses a Dutch company for some of their drivers. They "hand select" each driver to match the output of the others, or which ever one they pull out of the box first is more like it. I have not taken them apart yet, they are covered head to toe with a fabric. Maybe I'll skin em this weekend.
  18. I have a pair of very nice Vandersteen Model 3's in the house. Fabulous speaker, not as good as a Klipsch of course, but close. Problem is that one of the mid range drivers has a scratchy voice coil. Of course Vandersteen doesn't sell replacement drivers. But they will repair/update the pair of them for around $1,400 or so. I would have to pay to ship them out to California and back, I figure that would run me at least $300 ~ $400 round trip. And then of course I would have to worry about the damage that could happen during shipping. That is one of the nicest things about Klipsch speakers, you can get just about any part for them very easy. Should I just bite the bullet and send them off? They are to nice to toss in the garbage. I could get the one driver repaired by some shop with a generic driver, but I could never live with myself for doing that.
  19. Thanks guys. I listen to everything, from ABBA to Zorn, funk, punk and junk. Rock, Country, Jazz, Klezmer, Folk, Bluegrass, Blues, Classical just about everything. I even like the caterwauling from the Far East and Near East. I worked for a few years at a college radio station that had free form programing. It really expanded my horizons. I have always wanted a set of Klipsch since I saw some huge ones as a little kid, I know now that they were Klipschorns. I also know now that I don't have a place for the big corner horns. No rooms in the house are suitable for them. No problem though, the Cornwalls work just fine.
  20. Thanks, I was just posting that info to test my settings. I had been trying to post stuff for a month but couldn't get in, the page would time out when I posted. I found out that my router was bad, the ethernet cable running into the garage was struck by lightening and blew out one of the ports of my router. That in turn messed up the rest of the router settings. Plus the lightening strike took out the cable TV amp out there too.
  21. Howdy, New here sort of, I have been lurking in the back ground for a month or so. I received a set of Cornwalls #28W485 & #28W486 basically for free.[] I did a little (very little) work for a guy and he paid me with some old Klipsch speakers that he didn't want any more and didn't work either. I told him I would take them, sight unseen. They are a bit rough on the outside, some veneer missing (about a 4 inch section) on the front edge and some scratches but otherwise sound. One tweeter didn't work, I took it apart of course and found the flat copper ribbon from the voice coil to the solder lug had broken down inside the lug. Soldered it together and it is fine now. One woofer has a cut in it. I have ordered new woofers and crossover for them. Isn't it amazing how free stuff ends up costing money in the end. I'm using them in my garage where I can make as much noise as I want. Currently using a Pioneer SA-8800 to drive them. I got it for free too! People just love to replace old good stuff with new junk.
