  1. listening being pretty subjective, there're a lot of opinions on what is best. i think klipsch is best & very reliable. they're great w/ customer service too. think i've heard of some good dealers for them in your area. if u want new you're looking at close to 3k for 5 heresy speaks & a good subwoofer. heritage do make for great centers if done right. there's a matching chart link to the left for a start. i'd visit your local klipsch dealer & check it out too. beware of unauthorized (internet) dealers if u want klipsch to honor the warranty. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  2. ss, late may or early june last i heard. do you have a top line budget? for 5.1 surround you'll need 5 speaks & a sub ideally as well as that new a/v receiver.
  3. hey carlos, curious do u get any local channels over the dish? or any abc hdtv channel? wonder if u could get NYPD Blue in 5.1 some way. it's on tomorrow pm. thanks.
  4. man's best friend is right - that puppy really did u a favor klipsch has a new line of reference speaks & subs coming around may that may be just the tic for your needs. of course their heritage line is great already, but may take up too much room & budget (?) ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  5. thanks phil. definitely don't have that around here. maybe some dbs systems have that too (?) don't know much on dbs, me a cable guy
  6. amen* jd! *if I could find some way to get my cornwalls in the front ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  7. to add, monster's good but if u want to save some $ for those long runs, u can get as good as monster good quality shielded interconnects for less. www.jandr.com or even rat shack has it.
  8. curious rdawg, are u looking to use both as main subs or 1 just for the rear? but just to answer, i think the best rule is to use as few connections as possible. so the 1 line from the 15 to the 10 would be best. you should use a Y-cable to both inputs of the 10. more important to sound how u use the subs & where u place them though.
  9. i should mention i also use the dig. box's analog audio outputs in addition to the digital outs (yea even more interconnects but they don't have to be monster though a good quality shielded may be good ). w/ the digital connection you'll get sound to your receiver only w/ digital channels, so for all the other analog channels u need those connections. another good thing on the digital connection are those music channels. usually sound much better than radio & no commercials
  10. yea bjb, i have my sciatlanta box running from it's 1 digital out jack to the coax digital in of my receiver via a single rca interconnect. thought i'd mention that as many don't realize this provides another source for digital sound for HT besides the DVDP. hopefully, we'll get more Dolby Dig 5.1 sound broadcasts in the near future. but using the digital connection instead of just the dual plug analog connection still provides cleaner dolby sound even w/ just Dolby 2.0 Surround/Prologic broadcasts. ------------------ ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  11. klipsch seem to have pretty good grille cloth for acoustics but my rf-3, rc-3 & cornwalls do seem to sound brighter w/ the grilles off. i think it's pretty subjective though so if u like the look & their's no threat of direct impact driver damage (my biggest concern), go for it.
  12. my vel hgs-18 has just a switch for either 0 or 180. & it was $2200 ($3000 msrp) so i guess it isn't a high priority for them to offer a variable phase control. now i think it sounds tighter w/ the rf-3 on 0 (a lil muddy on 180 but seemingly more bass). seems to sound a lil better for music w/ the other speaks set to small too, probably because of less bass cancelation w/ the sony receiver bass management characteristics. anyway, sounds great any which way. i guess just matters my preferences on any given day.
  13. i agree totally. may be a slight advantage on some for build quality & features like double shielding. but as far as sound quality, i've read of Tom Nousaine challenging some of those premium wire houses on doing the comparisons at their own facilities & getting continuously put off by them.
  14. oh that wasn't an apology to U dick. just an expression of sorrow that u had to draw blood. seems you get it wrong time & time again. by way, i was originally talking about the issue, not your opinion. i was done, then someone corrected me incorrectly. so i responded. then comes your personal attack on me ("get a life") - guess, due to your perception, I touched a lil nerve. dem liberals sometimes get sooo mean & hissy & your last lil narrative seems to directly contradict the statement you made that I or we can't do anything about it, dick. & again where u seem to be a big proponent of free speech, but u tell me to "get it right next time". what is "right" dick? only the way u see it, right? the more you write, the more you look like a hypocrite. this is all pretty funny. & you're wrong again dick - i'm still a lil over 100 posts from "No Life". ================================ thought i'd jump back & edit this. everyone has opinions & we're all of the same world. this board is I think meant for audio/video & such, so i'm just going to finish out my tenure to "no life" on this board by continuing to learn about audio/video &, i hope, helping others on such. i am sorry if anyone took my comments personally, but never sorry for my right to an opinion. so i'm outta this post. willie's gone. god's speed.
  15. hey thanks colin. I need to give that a try. currently have some plugged into the receiver outlets & others plugged into the outlets on the entertainment cabinet. thanks again.
  16. yea, the liberals be need not be concerned of becoming even more dependant on natural gas. they're already full of that
  17. some prefer the rear surrounds to have a delay for those HT effects. u may want to even set the rears to a closer distance on your receiver than they actually are. kind of virtually extends your back wall. at only 40' u won't hear any delay due to wire length.
  18. rdawg, looks like monsterbass400 maxes out at 24 ft- www.monstercable.com i got mine through www.jandr.com i take it the add-on sub is in the back of the room & 30 ft. from the existing sub. since the ksw-10 has no outputs, you'd have to put the ksw-15 where the 10 is & run the cable from one of it's line outputs to the 10. radio shack or some electronics supply store or monster or jandr should have a dual female rca adapter to attach 2 line cables together if u want that monsterbass cable. if u don't go that monster, i'd look for a cable w/ at least double shielding for that long of a run.
  19. jeff, the reason seems to be the veneers. rb has real wood whereas the rf has vinyl. big coincidence that speakers so different have exactly the same price though huh?
  20. welcome to the board bjb! looks like a great set-up! do you have any specific concerns? noticed the dig cable box. do u have it plugged in to the coax digital in of the denon?
  21. dick, sorry it had to get personal. said I wasn't attacking you, but I guess maybe you're still a lil mad that the robot lost the election. must hurt to feel you'll lose all those civil liberties, e.g., maybe won't be able to march in your parade but we can do something about it - it's called public opinion (liberal media not included). get a clue. p.s., this is a good example of the advice - never talk of religion or politics at parties.
  22. i remember bose for one doing that light bulb thing on their 301 tweeters back in the 70s because they blew so easily. i would assume the 561 has the terminals for wiring or else you'd need the matching socket & terminals.
  23. yea pete figured the unit# was only 3 digits, but w/ my cornwall #(above) guess that means it was made in jul(07) of '84 (contrary to what i've heard on this board). guess also they didn't make more than 999 units/mo. or if they did then maybe they went to 4 digits (8 total). pretty arcane system
  24. ash, do you have the ksw-10? subs that have speaker level outputs don't use their amp to power other speakers. your receiver's amp does that. the sub's amp only power the signal to it's own driver. whether a ksw-10 has (pass through) speaker level outputs or not, i no know. all those do, if it has them, is utilize the sub's crossover control, not the sub's amp.
