I had new risers built for my Chorus IIs. Solid pine shaped like the modern floating Forte risers. I screwed them onto the bottoms, and they looked much better. However, the big surprise was the sonic improvement. The pine risers tightened up the bass very nicely, giving the bass more of a sealed woofer sound.

Did you change the stainless steel "button" feet?

  2. In the past several months I came to the conclusion that the Chorus II is an orphaned design.

Mine traveled a bit doing wedding DJ for kids short on funds.

    Grading the design aspects....

    Grill...A

    Box...A

    Drivers...B+

    Passive radiator protection....D

    Riser integrity....D+

    Feet....E

    Network....B-

.... comparatively speaking my Type AA in my Belles is a robust design, Chorus II is smallish and fragile, definitely not creating customer confidence.

They are black and definitely do not look nice compared to the walnut oil Belles. I have a furniture restorer lined up to reveneer in either maple, cherry or bubinga. We will add more structure to the riser and better feet. Maybe a small amount of internal bracing and a protective cover for the passive radiator.

Design contradictions are strange. A great grill but weak riser and feet. Good network design but fragile circuit board instead of point to point wired.

I infer somewhere in the design and prototype process there was a more expensive to manufacturer and robust design iteration.

    Just a retired MSME pontificating....😎

  3. Questions and clarifications

I bought my first Klipsch Heresy Industrial Ported in 1977 as I recall and have not sold any speakers or components in over ten years.

You may be thinking Audio Flynn is an odd moniker to assign to ones self. Dancing ladies nicknamed me and made me a tee shirt when I was doing sound for Detroit rock bands from 1976-1983. Still a goofy name but it is what I picked in 2000 when I joined the forum.

What equipment and speakers are people interested in?

Include shipping in price or separate?

Preferred carriers? UPS, FedEx or other

    Popular methods of payment?

Embellish on what I liked and did not like about the component?

My idea is the 6-8 components i respected well I am not going to use anymore I will test for 4-6 weeks before offering for sale.

    Thanks for reading.

    Rick

It is a great clip .. great clip full of BS! Reviewers are just a piece in the massive machine that keeps the audiofool business rolling. The idea that some new refreshing tricks have been found in tube audio some nearly 60 years after they were mainstream is just silly... Solid State has also been figured out to a T for decades hence the reason Klipsch still has those great crown amps! They also have tube amps in house too! The reviewers job is to keep the BS rolling over top of audiofools heads! Get that money!

Logically, cable reviews of any kind prove bias at least. Of course there is wining and dining by manufacturers like there used to be in the pharmaceutical and auto industries.

I am in recent weeks going through 30 years of cables. Six DACs over 20 years with Blue Jean and two quality levels of Audioquest without hearing any difference.

I purposely use pretty basic speaker cable. Home Depot, Parts Express and Mogami. I may have tricked myself into thinking Mogami was better than Home Depot with Belles.

If a reviewer gets too animated about cables, I find that disingenuous and his or her other reviews suspect.

  5. I have owned this amp for over 15 years using it with RB-5 and Chorus II. After many farm projects and new recreation room/ listening room completed in December 2023 I finally have time to listen to components and make certain they are running well. The LK85 has powered the Chorus II the past six weeks until I had my VRD ready.

    63 wpc into 8 ohms

    Designed and built in Scotland

    Includes power cord

Includes unique speaker connectors which I infer most eBay sales do not include.

    Pedestrian black stucco like finish.

    $385.00 delivered to Continental USA

I have been packaging and shipping audio equipment for over 25 years with no issues.

    Pictures to follow.

  6. I am not much of an SS guy the past twenty years.

At an AK show in Detroit I picked up this receiver I could never afford in the seventies thinking that my adult son who repairs computers would be interested in audio gear. Unfortunately, he is that sound bar and subwoofer generation.

I have never turned it on and expect it is inoperable.

Should I sell as parts only?

The wood case is exceptional for the age.

Can I find a technician knowledgeable about the SX-828?

    What would you do?

I use a Vidar II on each of my Forte IV surrounds in bridged mono. They sound fantastic. Great tonal match for the Bryston I use for my other channels. Quick and tactile providing plenty of power for near full range surround reproduction.

Schiit stuff is built really well and the quality/performance for the money is awfully hard to beat.

They sound 100x better than the Crown XLS1002s I was temporarily running since the Bryston 2B-LPs I was using got burned out in a power surge. Need to get them both restored but I may just end up leaving the Vidar IIs in, I've been super happy with them.

Had a Ragnorak as well about 6 years ago before I bought my current home or owned any Heritage speakers. That was a great amp as well.

IMHO for Heritage Class AB is what you want if you like SS. Unless one likes more of a tubey sound then Class A is a bit more up your alley but Schitt doesn't make one and their AB amp isn't warm/laidback sounding. Class D just doesn't sound quite right at least in my experience on either the Heresy III or Forte IV. Never tried it on KHorns but have no interest, no matter how expensive or "high end" it is. For subs, class D is a different story though.

Class D is a deep rabbit hole.

NAD M32 with my Belles is not my VRD with CJ PV 12B, but it is uncomplicated software wise.

Why buy a Forte IV if they will not support other passive radiator models.

I was planning selling the Chorus II in black and buying Forte IV new in cherry as a retirement achievement my wife would enjoy.

No guarantees Forte IV will be supportef.

You might also try Dave Miller at Speakerworks in Tulsa, OK.  He's been authorized Klipsch, JBL, Peavey, Celestion, EV, and on and on, for 30+ years.  He'll be about to give you more information about Klipsch than the 000 advice given.  He's also an authorized Heritage dealer.

    He was busy today.

I will give him another call tomorrow.

If it is so critical, and one would worry about the supposedly non-matching repair (audibly), then have BOTH passive radiators reconed.

    Well.....

I know guys that work on tube and SS amps, tuners and speaker networks. Not bass and PR drivers.

Last woofer I reconed was in 1983.

The undefined diligence of a first time use of a craftsman can be problematic.

I'm have sympathy for price restraint..... however...I have crawled up product lines buying the next upgrade in my components until it dawned on me that if I added up the cost of replacing this or that multiple times was adding up to an amount I thought I couldn't "justify".  The Klipsch speaker line is an example. I've owned almost everything but the Khorn and Jubilee. If I had just bought my Lascalas immediately I would have saved a considerable sum. (Although all my friends and family now own some great speakers! lol My son enjoys his RF7's!)) After buying SS amps/receivers I decided to stop this tactic. After MUCH consideration I bought the Raven Audio Nighthawk tube integrated. Lascala and Raven is a match that will blow your mind. BUT at $2999 it far exceeds your dollar limit by a wild margin. However....you don't know what will finally scratch that itch. (One hopes that Maybe the cheaper step will be ok until the lower performance drives you crazy)

I use quite a bit of restraint on amplifier purchases. DACs and Transports I have changed every few years since 2003 or so.

Should have bought Meridian, Bel Canto, Benchmark or equivalent performance DAC years ago.

    Here's the reply from Klipsch Product Support ...  Part number/description:  1000595 - KD-16 (M) (NO STOCK) ,

" we no longer have stock of that item due to age of the product (as it has been discontinued and/or is no longer in production)  "

    .........................

I think the KD-15-ST is an option to consider  , previous forum members were impressed with this newer drone 's sound ,  it fits tight , and minor adjustments are needed to make it perfect   with a dremel tool  , it's a tad larger on the outer rim but not by much.   the pictures are from a previous member's Chorus II installation of the Forte III drone .

I appreciate your contribution to this investigation. In speaking with Klipsch Technical Support today the young man was exceptional at following policies, procedures and practices as to not recommending MODIFICATIONS outside of the original design and bill of materials.

I am not a modder of my Klipsch speakers.

My 1978 Belles have the original internal speaker wire.🤣

KD-15-ST seems like an economical and expedient option to test. The left channel with the taped up passive radiator is irritatingly weak in bass weight and low frequency attack. Then I can send the KD-16 out for recone or try it myself.

I knew about the KD-16 situation for at least five years. If I was told correctly PWK last speaker design he was intimately involved in was Chorus II. Odd not to support drivers from a PWK legacy perspective.

the aftermarket recones will cost more money after  expenses vs new ones  , and they may not even sound like klipsch drones .

These are the only two options I am seeing that MAY be a non drop in replacement for the KD16.

My experience with LS and KH is that Carver, tho not really Hifi sounds fabtastic unless you are a real picky snob. 😀

Knew two guys who had Carver with repair and longevity issues. Limited sample size.

This one is not functioning was why I did not consider it.  Like Carver for me Sherwood Newcastle made excellent equipment, except for CD players in South Korea in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Not many people talk about B&K amps anymore either. Three systems I heard over the past 30 years were pretty impressive.
