  1. Here are the specs on the 165HRX3, (http://www.focal-america.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/165KRX3_Spec.pdf)

I purchased two sets of Focal 165 KRX3 (Set for front and set for back) but found the crossovers that came with them were not flexible so I went with the Audison Bit One Processor. I am using the 6" for my mid/bass and is being pushed with two JL Audio HD 600 dridged to 300watts for each 6". That uses four of the eight channels in the Bit One and the other four is for the highs. That is why I am hooking the tweeter and the 3" mid together and they are being pushed by one JL Audio HD 600 and 150 watts per channel. For the bass I have two JL Audio 12W6 and being pushed by 2 JL Audio HD750's and is set up on Audiocontrol Matrix manual crossovers.

I have been tuning by ear but I want to hear from others to see if I am headed in right direction or something I might have missed.

My thinking is: when I hooked the tweeter and the mid together to act as my highs, because I don't have enough channels to separate and cross them separately. So if I cross the frequency say 1000Hz to 20,000Hz in the Bit One then wouldn't I want to put a resister on the tweeter so it don't get all 1000Hz to 20,000Hz.

  2. I am running a Focal TN53K K2 Power Tweeter and Focal 3 KRX3 K2 Power Midrange as highs on one channel with an active digital computer based crossover. I am using 6 KRX3 K2 Power Woofer for mid/bass on diffrent channel. I have the tweeter and the midrange wired parallel. The midrange is 4 ohms and the tweeter is 8 ohms. So what would be the best crossover point? And what size of resistor would I put on the tweeter and where?

  3. I have been doing wood working for 30 years and tried alot of diffrent wood fillers and putty's. But the one I have found to be the best is Durham's Water Putty. (http://waterputty.com/)

Can't beat the price and it is pretty easy to work with. Usually wouldn't be an issue with speakers but don't use where exposed to any moisture... that stuff pops out.

You are right when exposed to moisture for a extended period it will pop out. But you should not expose wood to moisture any way.

I just find when using Bondo it will not expand and retract with the wood when the temperature changes and will come loose.

  4. I was wondering if there were anyone on here that would know where I could buy a cover for my subwoofer that has the top 2 push in plastic pins broken off? Should I glue them back on? Thanks......

I used JB Weld and worked fine.

  5. I follow this topic for a long time. When I built the Hhorns I came up with the K-55 and Altec 511 horn along with the JBL 2404.

I used to fool around with an Altec A7-500 cabinet (one of the Voice of the Theater systems). There was something satsfying about the Altec 511 horn that I liked.

Everyone likes the 511. They they sell them and buy things hoping they sound like the 511. :)

Love the 511 but they are getting harder and harder to find in good shape. I used a little spray on deading rubber on them before installing and it made them a little warmer.

  6. I agree it is a very big center! Unless your putting it in a public theater.

But if someone wants it built, I love taking on new projects.

Because of the diffrents in the ohms is why I went with two 8" with 4 ohms each.

It sure is! Definitely not for everybody! It would be great for a large HT, and is shorter than a LS or Belle.

My center is actually very similar, except it is a single LaScala, a rack, and two THT's. Mind you, I have a 10' screen and a pretty big room.

Did you use a LaScala crossover with that center?

FWIW, I have attached the sketchup of the center cabinet.

I used ALK Extreme-slope crossover networks.

  7. Thanks to Wrench722 for inspiring this. His brilliantly designed center using smaller LS bass bins made me think. How bout using full size bins and a full size horn section? I already had LS plans I drew up in Sketchup, so it was easy to manipulate the file. Below is what I came up with. Storage for 4 devices, two LS bass bins and an LS tophat. I can provide the detailed plans to whomever wants to build this thing. Be sure to give wrench722 ALL of the credit. It took me literally 15 minutes to push things around in Sketchup.

WOW! Nice! Are you going to build it? If so, keep it posted with lots of pictures!
