  1. Well, nice try anyway Travis, & thanks for thinking of me. Although I totally love my Cornwalls, I would still like to do a side by side audition in my living room with the K horns. Someday...it will happen, but of course I wouldn't trade the opportunity to spend a few day's with my 85 year old father for all the k horns in the world. Yes your right about about the June meeting at your house, had my heart set on it, but my job said it was not to be.It would have been my first chance to hear k horns since 1963. Also thought I would see you at Luther Wards In San Antonio a few weeks ago, did you get to hear Fred's home made Line Aray speakers? I thought they were amazing for the price. I frequent all the thrift stores on the south side of Austin fairly often & have yet to find a single piece of tube gear. Let us know what you find & good luck to ya. Cornman
  2. Ok Travis, I am dieing to no the final outcome. Did you get them? I also live in Austin, & it seems when I go out of town the horns come up for sale. I track Craig list 6 to 8 times per day for the past year in search & just as last time when I get to lufkin ( visiting my dad) I miss out on the deal. So whats the final chapter, hope one of us Klipschiies scores them? Cornman
  3. Russel is for sure the expert on Mac. & can set us straight on the Question. But I was told by Barry the well known Mac dealer on e- bay that the 2505 was the first Mac. with autoformers, I belive I also read the same on Russels sight. Since the 250 seems to be the same amp as the 2505, except without the meters I want to belive it has the Autoformers. Please let us know what you find out. Cornman
  4. Thebes, the mods were done by a locall hobbyist Dr.John Day a well known modder in the Austin area. All the out put & cupling caps. were replaced with Guderman paper in oil caps & the phono stage has metalized caps. The standard volume control was replaced by a 27 mm Alps Blue Velvet; tubes are Tungsol, Brimar, GE. This being my first pre. I cant speak about the differences from the stock version, but do know I like what it did for my system regardless of which amp it is coupled with. Dave, my sequence of ranking would be - 1- Mc. 2- HK930 3- Akai 4- Jolida 5- Sx1050 6- Marantz GRB, as for what set's the Mc. apart, - a sonic signature that more real, more naturall, more detailed, more revealing. I dont have the experience that most of the guys here have to give a detailed description, but I just plan liked it & not buy a small margin. I knew from the info I had read it could be better but I was actuall surprised by -How Much Better. I hope these comments will be usefull to other beginners. I could have saved a lot of money by just buying the Mc. from the start, but I would have missed out on the learning process that goes along with this audio evolution. My next step will be to Install some high quality crossover in the Cornwalls, & I think I will be very content with the sound. Famous last words - Right - Cornman
  5. As usual, you guy's know the answer...Yes #5, the Mcintosh sounded best to my ears. What a jam fest it was - lot's of fun. Looking forward to seeing all of you that can make it to Luther's house tomorrow in San Antonio. Cornman
  6. Had a blast this past weekend auditioning differt gear to go with my 1980 cornwalls. Heres a list of the gear compared. 1- Hk 930 receiver 2- Pioneer SX1050 rec. 3- Marantz 2230 rec 4- Jolida 202 integrated tube amp 5- Mcintosh 2505 SS amp. 6- Akai AM3 integrated amp. All of the above were fed with the Nad bee cd player & thru a customized Conrad Johnson PV3. Could not get all the equipment on the table at one time, well over 100 lb's.in the photo; had to rotate it. Since I can not yet afford VRD"s yet, I was testing what was avialable to me. And so which of the 6 do you think was the winner? The winner was like peanut butter & jam in combo with the other component's creating a great synergy. Thank's again to all the fourm member's for the great advise, your recomendations have all been right on to my ear's.
  7. The Nad bee series works well for me & the Cornwalls. Good luck. Cornman
  8. A fourm member named "JBSL" owns a Cary integrated, lives in the Austin area. I got too hear it for just a few minutes before being draged back to work,, ouch I hate it when that happens. Anway --PINGING James-- I am sure he could help you. good luck, Cornman
  9. The pleasure was all mine Luther. Your the first true Audio aficionado to listen to my system, it was great to hear your opinion. Great fun comparing your Amp's and mine in my own listening space. I heard a lot of differnt equipment at the Audio Karma Fest, but it doesnt compare to hearing it in your own living room. It seem's to take own so much more meaning & depth in my efforts to understand this fascinating hobby. Should any of you have the opportunity to see & hear Luthers DIY amp's dont miss it. There not only beautiful work's of craftsmanship; dollar per doller spent they produce fantastic sound. Sure did inspire me to take a shot at a DIY project. Looking forward too the next time Luther. 10. Im not affilated with seller... second pair in 2 weeks for sale, for anyone who might be interested. Good luck, Cornman
  11. Craig, is that also true for a cdp output, ok to use the "Y" connectors ? I am trying to do an a- b test comparison on two seperate amps using the same cdp & Cornwall speakers, only powering up one amp at a time. Thanks, Cornman PS. Still waiting in great anticipation for the Merlin II kit...
  12. I recently picked up this tube tester cheeply at a thrift store, seems to work ok. My question is should I keep it or sell it? I hope to soon own tube gear, & as a beginner in the tube world I dont know how useful this tester might be or not be for me. Thanks,
  13. Whew,,that's a relief. For a while there I thought I must have offended ever one when I started this thread about Rogue. Everone here has been so helpful to me in my quest for better understanding of the Klipsch audio world, to be rude or disrespectiable i would not want to be. So it apears there are not any Rogue users here who can give us an opinion, that in itself is some information. God I cant belive how addicted I have become to this fourm, I read it at least twice a day , and learn somthing new everday. Thanks to all, Cornman
  14. My local dealer showed me a Rogue integreated with remote today. Nice looking stuff, dont know much about product line except highly recomended by local dealer, hopefully some of the regulars here will be able to give us there thought's. Like your self I am going to the tubes, but would sure like to have a remote. The mdl. I am most interested in is the "Cronus". Made in America, about $1800.00. Good luck, Cornman
  15. The photo your looking at Is of one of the circuit boards of an HK-930 reciever. I just bought this off of ebay, seller said It worked, but Its DOA for me. The panel lights up, but the transformers are cold(do not warm up). There Is no sound, not even static, from any source. In the photo there are 6 slotted cubes, 2 on the outer ends are very clean, but the 4 In the middle have a crusty carbonized coating although they do not smell burned. Can anyone tell me the name of these cubes, and would they kill all output If bad? Thanks, Cornman
  16. Setup my cornwalls about two weeks ago, and It's been everything I hoped for. Thanks to all here for there great advice and words of wisdom that lead me down this path. I am trying to go slow and spend alot of time listening as recommended but It's difficult to not want to keep the Improvements coming. I am currently pushing the cornwalls with an Onkyo TX8511 and have just purchased on Ebay an HK 930. Wanted to give this reciever a chance after hearing all the great reviews on this board. If I dont hear a large Improvement with the HK the other amp I am considering Is a Nad C320BEE. Does anyone have any experience with any of these three components using cornwalls? All comments and advice greatly appreciated. So as not to confused or mislead anyone I previously had a different username "saltyhook" due to a login error had to change username to cornman. Under saltyhook you will see photos and post I made before recieving cornwalls. Again thanks to all & It's great to be a fellow Klipsch owner. Cornman
  17. I should have also noted this is for 2 channel use only. The Fisher's & the Eosone's will disappear after the Cornwall's arrive & I have a chance to run some a-b test's. So for those of you who have already been down this road, please help save a old timer's back from having to move these bemouth's any more times than is necessary. Happy new year to all, Cornman
  18. Next week I hope to be happy new owner Of a pair of 1980 Cornwall's. Assuming I am happy with listening test; which for me is a lg. leap in faith considering that I have not heard any Klipsch speakers since 1964; and I havnt been the same since the night I first heard those Khorn's! [] So I am hoping they will have the sound I want my upgrade too reach. So heres my ? In the attached photos you will see on each side of t.v. a pair of Fisher's and a pair of Eosone 600's, that I hope to replace with one pair of the "mighty cornwall's). If I were to place the cw. in the cabinets that now hold the fisher's would this produce distortion & other negative's? By removing the bottom shelve 's the cornwalls would be 4" off the floor without the stock cw foot (riser). The cabinets are 7' 6" tall x 3' wide 16" deep. The Fishers performed well In the cabinets, but of course they're just Fishers. My other alternative location for the CW's would be on the floor where the Eosone's now sit. That would only be 7' apart, where as the cabinets are 10' apart. My listening room area Is aprox. 18' x 30'. So what say ye' Klipsch gurus? Thanks, Cornman
