  1. that's still weird though, i've never noticed static even on crappy mp3s before...
  2. ummm... my ATI Radeon 64 DDR has a TV out. I don't know if it's really good, haven't tried it out. but it has one.
  3. well, baz, have you tried the soft decoders out there? personally I tried my ATI Radeon's decoder, and the video quality wasn't as good as with software. plus, I couldn't get 4.1 sound. you should try the software decoders out there they are really good. ayways, I was just suggesting getting rid of the Hollywood plus because it seemed to create interference. about that: the sounds you're hearing, Baz, are not because of the Pros. definitely not. it's the soundcard picking up all this noise. the PC environment is so bad for good sound, that's why a separate home theater is still the way to go. anyhoo, I have an el cheapo sounblaster 16 card in my other computer. especially when I have my headphones on, I can hear the CD ROM spinning even WITH music on!! soundcards are cheap; they pick up all this noise so easily. forgive me if I'm rambling, it's just that I'm just out of the theater, I watched Hannibal, and I'm still quite shaken by it. my litle brother had an two open-brain surgeries, guess that's why the brain-eating sequence kinda shook me. I don't want to go to bed, so I log on to this website and post as long a message as I can. anyways. I'll find another thread.
  4. what exactly are you willing to spend? if you have enough, my suggestion would be to go the home theater way, either based on your computer or not. are you going to use a TV or your PC monitor for video? how big is the room? and your budget? and how close are you going to be to the speakers? etc...
  5. nice link. i love the sturdy way the sub enclosure is built, true Klipsch quality...
  6. to settle this geforce vs. radeon... the consensus so far is that the Geforce 2 GTS pumps up a couple more fps (something like 10 or so, depending on the review, the machine, the brand of the Geforce card, etc...) more than the Radeon. however, the Radeon, still according to reviews, has a bit better image quality, and more importantly, IT IS MUCH CHEAPER!!!! ATI Radeon 64 DDR: $297 @ microbytes Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS Pro: $516 @ microbytes I'm sorry but I didn't think the extra fps warranted the additional $220... As for the Geforce 2 MX, it has less performance and less image quality, to varying degrees again depending on the review, machine, and brand of Geforce 2. SO in my case, the obvious choice was the Radeon, as I was not willing (as in NO FREAKINGWAY!!!) to pay more than half a grand, much less $700 for the Ultra, for a friggin' video card that I'm gonna upgrade in a year or two.
  7. this buzzing thing is weird. i think it definitely comes from the sound card or the decoder card, I don't think it's related to the pros. anyhoo, why are you using the Hollywood plus? I can only see one reason: your computer isn't fast enough. else, you're better off going with a software decoder. anyways, i can understand your anger, one would expect that you could just plug everything in and everything would work fine... except it rarely works that way in the computer world... a shame really. but anyways, if the buzzing thing has happened with two of the pro's set, statistically it's almost impossible that it's related to the pros. the scratchiness, okay, but the buzzing? maybe you could call the manufacturer of the Hollywood Plus or your soundcard manufacturer. it surely sounds like an interference problem to me.
  8. i'd say no need for brand-name cabling. just buy some generic heavy-gauge, that'll do. people claim they hear differences between generic and brand-name speaker cables, but that's on really expensive systems. I don't think the Promedia's level of performance warrants the additional investment.
  9. I use that kind of configuration also on the winamp eq, but in a less exaggerated manner. i boost the midrange only a couple bars from 0. the reason, dman, may be just because your mp3s are of bad quality, badly ripped or too low bitrate.
  10. check if you've muted your mic input.
  11. hey maggotbrain! it is really easy to replace the wire yourself. just search the bulletin board and you,ll find it. it involves radio shack solderless minijacks.
  12. everything sounds better loudm that's why salespeople always tunr up the volume when they make you listen to speakers. except when distortion kicks in. and it doesn't with the pros.
  13. you can even use better than 16 gauge. it is highly recommended. everybody who tried it is positive that it improved the sound. besides, you can customize for the size you need, and it doesn'T cost much. it certanly can't hurt!
  14. AAAAAAHHHHH!!! the distortion is horrible!! there is so much distortion in the treble it's unbearable in "white wedding"... i don't like it.
  15. NOLF stands for No Life, right?
  16. i don't need a hard drive thank you, I've got a SCREAMING IBM Deskstar 30gig in my brand new machine. man that thing is fast!
  17. well there aren't always demo versions for this kind of professional software...
  18. the hits counter was only put to work not too long ago, and the thread had been going on for a long time before that.
  19. lots of programming is in "dolby surround", like the simpsons and the Daytona, it is not 5.1 though, but most likely Pro Logic.
  20. Hofy, why did you only order one????? you could have sold the others on ebay or something... how the hell did you find out about that deal though?
  21. hey, gimme a break guys, I'm still in school for chrissakes!! besides, credit cards are evil. EVIL I TELL YOU!! unless you use them purely for practical reasons, like buying some gum from that indigenous store in the middle of Africa. or so it seems in their ads!
  22. y'know what? I didn't upgrade yet, although it is something I recommend. the reason is simple: I'm using all the cheap big gauge wire I have on my home theater setup. when I move it downstairs, I'll buy new speakers for the stereo setup upstairs, that are going to be pretty top-notch, so I'm going to buy good wire for that, and at the same time I'm going to try to get a good deal and get some more for the home theater (I have to buy a good subwoofer cable anyways). that way, I'll be able to relegate some cheap wire to promedia usage. plus, the computer is going to move soon as well, so I don't know how much wire I need for the rear sats yet.
  23. yeah, this is not the 3dfiles bulletin board...
  24. progs like that exist, for sure. but they're quite expensive, to my knowledge, and since there's always going to be variables that are going to be left out, nothing replaces good ol' experimentation. it's true that knowing your room modes and how you could optimally deal with standing waves would give you a good head start for speaker placement, but in most cases you're restricted by practicality before acoustics neways... interesting though, if anyone can find a good lil' prog to do that, I'd be very interested for I'm moving the home theater in a new room and I can basically put it wherever I want!
  25. set top or DVD ROM? most people go with a Pioneer 16X DVD ROM, it's pretty sweet. as for set top dvd players, depends on the price.
