I am planning on double studding the wall(s) that the K horns are using to help with bass extension.

Years ago, I lived in Hope, AR and my father was a construction contractor.  He once did a remodel for Bob Moers, the president of Klipsch.  In the corners, where the Khorns were to be placed, he built a solid 3-4 feet of 2x4s out from the corner for bass reflection.  Kind of like your idea, but taken to the max.  Not sure how this would play out in terms of transmission THROUGH the lumber to other parts of the house, but I imagine it helped as far as getting the most bass extension from the folded horn.

  2. Rex Everything,

not sure where you're located but there are what appears to be 3- NIB NOS GE 7591As on Craigslist among a collection of "ham radio tubes" in Mercerville, NJ.  The whole workman's caddy is listed for $100 so it could be a good deal.  There are other stereo-related tubes in the photos.  Mind you, you only see the boxes in the photos, but you never know.

    Good Luck,

    Darrell

Always thought that if you never had chicken pox, you are good. And that could be spread by contact especially when someone with an outbreak has skin contact with the shingle, less likely.

When saw the new vaxx, thinking some not as important. Just a corporate crusade to vaxx!?

    Ask a trusted doctor @daveq291

Well, if you're one of the lucky few that haven't ever had chickenpox you might not need the vax.  Not sure, I'm not a doctor.  All I know is that if you HAVE had chickenpox, the virus is inside you.  It can lay dormant for decades (mine did), but when it attacks the nervous system, it is very painful.  It's not just about having an itchy rash, it's more about explosive pain.  Mine was on the back side of my head, behind my ear.

Haven't had a shingles vac yet and prolly won't.  Might regret it but will see.

Dave, you WILL regret getting shingles.  Trust me, I've had it.  It's not something to fool with.  Get vaccinated.

  5. Flevoman,

you could also try a set of stepped attenuators instead of a passive pre.  I have a pair made by Scott Endler in the US.  They were built 15 years ago, so I'm not sure if he's still in business, but you could do an internet search.  I ran them inline between an Apollo CDP (2v output) my Wright 3.5's (2a3 SET) which have an input impedence of 100k.  They give you volume control without adding much to the signal path.

I might be getting ahead of myself but I've also read that some people prefer to have them raised a bit to get them to the optimal ear level, has that been anyone's experience here as well?

Because my listening room is in the basement, I raised my CIIs about 3 inches for water safety/flooding reasons.  I did also experience some improvement in the soundstage.  I think it's best to boost them up on a solid foundation (in my case paving bricks and plywood) rather than something with a hollow cavity.  Good luck on your journey!

Thank you for the advice. Do you mean trying a different brand or a completely different type of tube (if that's even possible)?

    Trying a different brand.

I'm no expert at this, but I know some amps allow you to roll different types of power tubes, which may require re-biasing or even changing internal circuit values-  not something I'm familiar with.  I once had VRDs, but never rolled power tubes.  Instead, I played with the 12ax7s.  If you have a tube preamp without tone controls (as I do), you might try playing with the signal tubes (usually a 12a type or 6dj8) FIRST, before you play with the amplifier.   That gives you the most change, IMHO, without breaking the bank.

But beware, the tube rabbit hole is deep!

  8. In the late 2000's I bought a pair of WE 300Bs for my Wright Mono7s.  They were from the late 90's when Westex reintroduced them.  This was before they got "really stupid" in price.  I had been listening to Sophia meshplates.  My impression was "meh", I thought they sounded smooth but dull.  I sold them to a friend (but kept the wood box!).  I now run TJ Full Music carbon plates, I think they have the best synergy with the 6sn7 drivers in my system.

Flevoman, I think you'll notice the biggest sonic changes from rolling your preamp tubes or your amp's driver tubes, depending on your topology.

Those are great speakers. I own five Heresys, and the best sounding pair I own are my ‘83s. They are the H1s that begin the transition to the HIIs. They have a different crossover, woofer, & squawker.Often called H1.5s, and I’d bet yours are too. Plus, yours have those great cane grills, and the WO finish is great. Good luck with your sale.

Thanks.  I've owned 3 pairs of Heresies in my 45 year Klipsch experience (all being WO H1's).  These are the finest.  Best sounding? Perhaps (although they were owned years apart, so hard to tell), but definitely they are the handsomest.  I DO love the cane.  And the slant risers help throw the soundstage upward, filling the room.

  10. I have a beautiful pair of '83 WO Heresies with cane grills and slant risers for sale.  They're bone stock, in great condition, but not perfect.  I'd say 8.5-9/10, due to some very light scratches, which you need to get close to see.  I'll leave it to someone more experienced to refinish and upgrade them if desired.  These are a little more honey-colored than any other WO Klipsch that I've seen before, very pretty!

I'm the second owner, had them for about 15 years.  They sat unused because I bought Belles shortly after.  I sold the Belles and moved from CA to RI with the Heresies.  I'm selling them now because I've upgraded to Cornwalls.

I'm happy to audition in RI on a nice tube setup or deliver within an hour of Providence for a serious buyer.

    Thanks for looking!

  11. I have my Cornwalls in a room that's about the size you are considering and I really enjoy them.  I have them placed in the corners on the long wall, slightly toed in.  The imaging is great in the sweet spot!  I run them on 300B SET monos, with a sub for a little more bottom end.  Previously ran Heresies and wanted a bigger sound.  Welcome to the forum!

  12. I have a pair of all-original CIIs in a room that's basically 16' w x 10' d.  I sit 12' from the speakers which are tucked in the corners and are slightly towed in.  There is another small space behind my couch so technically the "room" is larger.  I run Wright Mono7's which are 300B SET.  I listen to rock and acoustic/vocal music.  I prefer a bit more bass, so I use a sub (RSW-10) on low output.  I get more than enough volume from 7 watts, I feel like I listen in the 80-90 db range.

Ahh, ok.  I just got that too.  His link DID work a few days ago, I saw the photos.  Maybe he needs to fix the link.  They appear to be in good shape, although the grill cloth on one has some staining on it.

HowieM, you need to get the photos back up, and if you'd like to PM me, I can let you know whatI recently paid for my CII's in MA.  Even though you are now listing them with "make offer" you might be scaring folks off with your opening price,  IMO it's a bit rich.
