  1. rsp, that software looks pretty good. Do you use it? Jack
  2. Just remember.. The early bird might get the worm... But it is the second mouse, that gets the cheese
  3. Mark Thanks! I will go search. Since I am going wav file, there shouldn't be much if any difference in sound. Everything on the server is wav, I won't even go with what they call lossless (altho some listening tests I did with ape format sounded great)
  4. Well after almost 10 years, I started unboxing my vinyl today and my TT. (I have 17 - 13"x13"x13" boxes). I hooked up the TT and dropped a vinyl on the platter, lowered the tonearm and was totally amazed at how good it sounded thru my Project w/Sumiko Oyster ->Mac C39 -> Mac 240 and Khorns. I have my cd collection ripped in wav format on my music server and was thinking, geez it would be nice to get a lot of the vinyl stuff into wav format on the server. The server has 1.5 terrabytes of storage and my 1250 some odd cds only take 640Gigs, so i have lots of space. Anyone have any software recommendations that would let me "rip" the vinyl into wav files?. I would need to be able to edit track info (song title, artist, album etc). Once on the hard drive I could import it into J River which is what I use to manage the current 15,329 wavs I have on there now Jack
  5. Oh, and I also have 2 pairs of the Nazca ionic tweeter, which I need to rebuild someday
  6. Dukane stopped manufacture of the Ionovac August of 1961 for 2 main reasons 1) Cost, in 1961 a single Ionovac DUK 5 sold for $79.00 the DUK 10 sold for more. 2) They require regular maintenance, so did not apeal to the general public. Mostly sold to audiophiles. By 1965 Dukane no longer had parts or did service. I am only a collector/researcher of the product. There have been several other companies that made similar units. The Ionofane of England, B&W for quite some time had Ionofanes in their top of the line P2. In the Netherlands the Nazca Ionic tweeter was made for several years. There was also the Ionophone. Today companies like Acapella, Magnat still make ionoc tweeters today. The Acapella sells for somewhere in the vicinity of $12,000.00 per pair. www.ionovac.com is my personal website. An associate/engineer and I reverse engineered the quartz cell and electrode and had a small quantity made which I offer for sale on my website. Don't you take it personal when someone attacks you when that person has no clue what they are talking about? Basing their whole argument on something they read? never heard, never seen. I have had Ionovacs since 1971, listen to them daily and altho I don't have an engineering degree or fancy test equipment, i do have 35 years experience with the technology
  7. Mr. Parrott, I don't think so. He started the whole episode by saying to throw them away, they are distortion generators, and then wanted me to send him a pair so he could overdrive them to make his point? I don't think so. Ionovacs in the condition mine are in have a value of about $2000 per pair, I am not a fool to let someone purposely overdrive them to prove a point, even if I do own 6 pairs, plus 2 of the original 20 prototypes. They have their operating range just like any other speaker. Would you be willing to send someone a pair of your speakers so they could run them into distortion to prove their point?
  8. cjgeraci, Yep you are right, totally uncalled for, out of the blue attack. I think he was upset because I had listed a Mac amp for sale that he had been looking for after he decided to settle for one slightly inferior, unkown to me. You are also correct, I have heard of, but never heard any of his products and to be totally honest at this point I don't want to hear any of his products and will go out of my way to be sure I never do. Simply put what something may look like on a piece of test equipment is only part of the story. He had never heard nor never seen on his test equipment, the equipment of mine he was bashing, calling trash and distortion generators, when I never asked for his godly opinion in the first place. It is fine to boast about one's accomplishments, but to call everything else a ripoff and trash, is not helping those looking for advise, especially with the "high regard" he holds around here. It is like because Al says something, everyone else follows like a bunch of sheep. If you are in a position like that, then you better be fair, There are other alternatives to Al's trachorns and networks, but not to him
  9. I just read the thread over at AK. I don't belong to that forum and I don't spend too much time here either. All I can say is WOW. The man attacked me here a few months back for simply having a 1961 advertising statement in my signature. It doesn't matter how smart someone is, no one is perfect. But if you read his posts, he is the only one who knows anything about filters, everything else is a ripoff (his favorite words). During his attack on me he based his whole fact base quoting PWK as gospel, not ever hearing the technology for himself. Yet in his posts in the above mentioned thread he bashes the same. He accused me of ripping people off because I reverse engineered replacement cell kits and sell them on my website, but yet it is ok for him to sell his filters and trachorns. In my opinion, the man has no class. There are many people who enjoy the Klipsch line of speakers, if the design was so poor it would not have survived the test of time. For months after my episode with the guy several of the forum members here continued to make comments about the technology, again with nothing more than Al's (read as god) word. I personally don't see his departure as a loss. I am sure his technical expertise has helped (and wow'd) a lot of people, but his bias against everything but his design has hurt and misguided just as many if not more.
  10. I hope you guys post pics and a cut sheet, this is something I really need to do. I have perfect corners but being 30' apart the sweet spot is way to close. To be able to toe out towards the side walls... lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
  11. Here is what I have in Cirque DVD's Cirque Reinvente, Allegria, Soleil De Minuit, La Nouba, Fire Within, Nouvelle Experience, Journey Of Man, La Magie Continue, Solstrom, A Baroque Odyssey, Varekai, Saltimbanco, Dralion, Quidam. Also because current running shows are not available on dvd, they do have audio CD's which are great in themselves. I have "O" and Mystere on cd, quite nice
  12. What is wrong with having them all? I have McIntosh tube (MC240), I have moderate power McIntosh solid state (MC50, MC250, MC2100) and high power McIntosh solid state (MC7300). I also have a Dynaco ST70 (not even close to original except chassis and transformers and it still has EL34's) and I plan on buying a SET 300b. None of them are RIPOFFS, thay each have their place, they each have their strong points and their weak points. What kind of mood am I in today is what dictates which amplifier I use AND what type of music I listen to AND which speakers I listen to. Same with my vehicles, why do i have 5? again, what am i going to do, where am i going, what will i be hauling. I sure wouldn't want to take a several hour trip in my pickup (i'd get beat to death) but does that make it a ripoff? Am I going to take my bike in 5 foot of snow? that doesn't make it a ripoff. Opinions and experiences are what people here are looking for, but heavily biased opinions....
  13. Michael, Which Cirque Du Soliel did you see? I have most all of their stuff that is available on DVD, BUT if you ever get to Vegas, you have to see "O" and "KA" The most spectacular live performance I have ever seen. We make a yearly trip to Belagio to see "O". We have seen it 5 times now. It is absolutely "edge of your seat" the entire time, we have also seen Mystere and Zumanity. We are planning to go in February and will be making reservations to see "O", Ka and Mystere. Zumanity is real strange, very sexual in nature, but it has its moments, it is nothing like any of the other Cirque's Jack
  14. A couple weekends ago, My wife's stepmother and her new husband came to visit. As we were showing them the house, we ended up in the theater/music room. The guy asked me if there was a way to plug his Ipod into my system because he wanted to hear something he had on it on my system. Thank god I had enough similar material to avoid what could have been a dreadful experience. Now here this guy is like 75 and he thinks the Ipod is the greatest thing in the world, just goes to show what marketing can do
  15. Call me strange, but I like em all... I would put them in my sound room (if I liked the way they sounded)
  16. "But ignoring the greater population and mass produced crap, there are still those that could care less if an image is there or not." That is assuming the greater population even knows what imaging is in this day in age. Today John Q Public is more concerned with how many days of music they have on their Ipods, regardless of the quality. I hear these people say "Oh I love my music" but how much of their music are they hearing? Compressed, narrow bandwidth, reminds me of when I was a kid, I had a 6 transistor radio. I was the man of the hour! until I realized that a whole lot more music came out of the 2 6x9 speakers in my mono zenith suitcase record player. The general consensus could care less about quality, imaging or content... how loud the kids can blast their car systems, how many days of music one has on the Ipod. that is what is important to the masses... not quality. Why should an engineer spend days doing mixdowns (like in the early 70's when I had my hand in it), when a few hours can bring the same money
  17. MaxG, Something we do over here is, depending on the plug on the line cord is flip it over. More recent gear has polarized plugs and some three prongs. I know nothing about power overseas
  18. Colter, Yes, the furniture is almost along the back wall in a big half circle, not because of the wife but because of the 110" diag screen that hangs about 2' from the front wall. The room doubles as both home theater and 2 channel (well 2 channel with a Belle center and Heresy sourrounds) The DD 7.1 system is totally separate system (another story for another time) My recliner sits center and there is about 5' behind me and the other 3 recliners and 2 couches angle in from there. Coytee, I have added tweeters on top of the Khorns and the Belle. I am not going into any more detail than that, they are angled towards my listening position, and I mean added. The Khorns still have their K77's the added tweeters are fed from an electronic crossover into their own amps. I have read on here that several people have placed 511B's on top and are pleased with the results. One post points to a $6 adapter plate to allow use of the K55 on the 511B. It just seems that the 511b would have wider dispersion. After what I went through convincing the wife to spend money on the Khorns, if I brought up Jubes' a post would appear here on the forum announcing my unexpected passing, how I must have not realized one of my hunting rifles was loaded while I was cleaning it. She would not agree, neither would the bank I have some nice tall McIntosh feet. Maybe I will try angle-ing the top hats first Thanks for the replies! Jack
  19. I am glad this topic came up. I have had my Khorns now about 3 months. I have a 30X30 room, I sit dead center about 25ft from the front wall. A couple months back I added a Belle in the middle which helped immensley. From where I sit the sound is good, but if I stand up and move forward about 8 to 10 ' the sound is better (right in the cross hairs of the room) Sure I can pull my chair forward to listen but then I have to move it back to the 25' position to watch movies. ok so I am lazy and don't want to do that. I was thinking maybe I could unbolt the top hats and angle sligtly so the top hats point at me or I have been looking to maybe pick up a pair of Altec 511b's to put in place of the original top hats. Ideas, suggestions, comments? Jack
  20. I had a pair of those in the mid 70's for my band, the piezo's don't belong and the mid horn doesn't look stock either if memory serves me correctly (been a long time). Let me dig thru some pictures to see if I can find one that shows the stock unit. They did sound good in their original condition
  21. it is what is pleasing to your ear. I gave up on these so called "reviewer's" several years ago Magnepan had just released their MGMC line. I had them and one of the stereo rags had a review on them used in a HT environment. It wasn't a spectacular review, I was puzzled. Several months later there was an article about how reviews are done. The guy who had reviewed the mags was doing his reviews in a 10' X 11' spare bedroom in his house. Maggies need room, no wonder he gave them a mediocre review. I too have noticed that the same system in the same room with the same program material doesn't sound the same day after day. There are many things that can affect your hearing.
  22. you gotta believe you hear a difference if it cost you money, even if you don't.
