As some of you may know, I got a pair of '77 La Scalas that were in not-so-nice shape recently. They were originally Black lacquer, then some genius decided that black Krylon might look better. Well........2 months later and alot of Cherry veneer, and they look AWESOME! All of the drivers work perfectly, and the only issue is that one tweeter is a ceramic and ones an alnico. Otherwise all's good. Type AA crossovers. Basshorn and back are satin black now. Squaker is wrinkle black outside and flat black inside. Woofers sound perfect. The cherry veneer has 2 coats of Watco, but has not been rubbed out or waxed yet, so the final finish is up to the new owner. They look great just the way they are though. I found a set of 1975 Belles through a customer that the owner hasn't used in quite a while. The Belles will just fit better in my house due to the shallower depth. I would MUCH prefer a local sale, as shipping is a hassle. I have them listed on Boston Craigslist for $1200.00, but I'll do $1000.00 for any forum member. Bryston is maybe one of the best amps built. They literally never break, and they sound as good as any amp in the $10,000 up catagory. Their service is unmatched as well. Corey

I've just been offered a pair of Altec Stonehenge II speakers, in nice condition, for $250.00. They're local, so no shipping. Is this a pair of speakers that's any good? I'm thinking trade-bait for a pair of Belles down the road! Corey

I am just finishing up my La Scalas done in paper-backed Cherry veneer. I used Titebond II and did the iron on method. It has worked out great. The seams look great, and so far everythings stayed put. I've had to re-heat some edges, but once I do they stay. I got my veneer from www.boulterplywood.com Corey

I'll definately post some pics once I get it all wiped down and polished up. It is almost mint condition, with the exception of a couple small nicks on one of the trannys. It's been in storage for a while, so it needs a good cleaning. I'll also run it up on the variac just to be safe. Corey

A friend of mine cleaned out his parents home this week that they just sold. In the cellar, IN THE ORIGINAL BOX, he found a Citation II power amp! He knows I'm a nut for this stuff, so he offered it to me for almost nothing. He had checked Ebay, so he knew what they were getting, but he doesn't want to deal with shipping a 70 pound amp. Needless to say, I got it for well under $500.00. It was in the original box, with cardboard transformer covers, manuals, service reciepts from the last 40 years, and the original tubes. I'm so excited I've almost messed myself several times today! L.O.L.!!! Now, of course, I need a preamp that's worthy of this amp. A Citation I would be my first choice, followed by a IV. If anyone is interested, I've got a Dynaco ST-70/PAS rig, and a clean Scott 299C that I would trade for a preamp. If there's anyone interested, shoot me a message. I guess it's not that I didn't like them, I was just hoping they'd sound "bigger" than my Dynaudio Contour 1.1. The Dynaudio's are just monster little guys that sound HUGE. I do however love the horn mid and tweet of the Heresy's. I think the Cornwalls will be great because of the ported 15. I had my La Scalas in the house for a day before starting their re-fin, and I was thrilled. I drove them with a Dynaco ST-70/PAS, a Scott 299C, and my SimAudio/Moon I-5, and they rocked with every combination! I'm in Stoneham and my shop is in Davis Square, Somerville. Well I'm finally getting a pair of Cornwalls! Found them on a local Craigslist ad, and it turns out they guy needs to downsize, but loves Klipsch. I'll be trading him my Heresy II and $320.00. He bought them new in 1985, and they look great in the pics. Can't wait! Jeez.......and I haven't even finished my La Scalas yet! Corey

I think I'll have a chance to do them this coming weekend. Looks like paper-backed Zebrawood is the winner! I was going to do Honduran Rosewood, but my wife saw the Zebrawood and flipped. Gotta give her what she wants......I'm removing half of a closet to make them fit the room. Corey

Hi all! I'm restoring a pair of La Scala's, and I've got them all ready for veneer now. I've worked with solid veneers before, and they're great, but I'm looking for something a little quicker. I just went to my local supplier, and the paper-backed veneers he has look great. Has anyone here ever applied them? Pro/cons? Thanks, Corey

Yeah, I thought maybe custom ordered too. I have a cellar workshop to do them in, but spraying next to the furnace is probably not cool. I think veneer would look great, and I'm thinking maybe figured maple. I have maple floors, so the wife will approve! I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the texture paints out there today? Corey

They're definately industrials, but no handles, and the have K-33. They are also 1 piece. Corey

Hi all, I finally got a pair of La Scalas! They are '77's, and finished in black with aluminum edging. They don't have handles though. They are a little rough on the edges, and the paint is kinda beat. I'm thinking of squaring up the corners and smoothing out the dings, and then refinishing. The problem is I don't know if I should paint them black or veneer them. If I veneer them, I'll paint the doghouse and back black, and veneer all of the other surfaces. If I paint them, I'd like to use a semi-gloss textured paint. I'll add grills over the HF drivers. I guess my question is........what is a good, easy to work with textured paint? Anything good in a spray can? I'd rather not have to use a gun, as it's kind of a pain with no garage to work in. Any help? Corey

Just got these on Ebay about 3 weeks ago for $480.00. Looking to get $475.00 just to kinda break even. They are Heresy II type H WO SRB walnut oil finish with risers. The veneer is in great condition, with only very minor age showing. The black grilles are perfect. All the drivers work properly and sound great. Shipping is no problem if someone doesn't mind paying for it. I have a wholesale shipping account, and get good rates. I bought these thinking it would satisfy me until I found some La Scala's, but they're just not for me. Need to get some La Scala money together now! It's not the drive that scares me.....it's the lack of funds!!!!! L.O.L.! A smokin' deal, but just don't have the dough right now. I need to sell a bunch of stuff to raise some more money. The Belles have always been at the top of my list, but the La Scalas always seemed a little more affordable. I think the WAF is higher in the Belles too! Vermont in the Spring is AWESOME!!!!!! Corey

Well, my sources are a Dynaudio ST-70 and Harman-Kardon Citation II with a Woodside CD/2 and outboard converter directly in. Also with my SimAudio/Moon i5 (almost 3K) and Rega P-3. No cheap recievers here. I did however try it with an old Scott 420A integrated, and that was pulled in 13 seconds! Corey

Actually, I bet the La Scalas would be more suited to me. From what I understand, they are very "forward" sounding through the mids and highs. I LOVE the horn sound, it's just that the Heresy's are a little polite and bass-shy. They just seem to lack the punch I'm looking for. I'm not a fan of super-deep bass, just focussed and super punchy. The RB's seem to be punchier and more in-your-face. I have my Dynaudio's for the refined, polite, thing. Again, I think these are very good sounding speakers, I guess I'm just looking for something different. Corey

As some of you have read, I won a pair of Heresy II on Ebay last week. The seller was local and delivered to me that afternoon! Well........I've had almost a week with them, and I don't think they're my "thing" I'm not a subwoofer guy, as I only listen to 2 channel, and I prefer the naturalness of no sub. The Heresy is a little light in the low end for me alone. I think they are very nice sounding, but just not my preference. I have listened to the RB-35 and RB-75 several times, and they're definately more "me". This being said.......I'm going to sell them and try something else. I figured I got alot of input in a short time from the people here, so I'd offer them to Forum members first for what I paid. I paid $480.00(+$20.00 gas money for delivery). I'm offering them for $480.00+shipping to any Forum member that may be interested. I'd also possibly be interested in trades, so run 'em by me! Thanks, Corey

I just won a pair of Heresy II on Ebay about 5 minutes ago for $480.00. They're local so no shipping! Here's the auction # 9711059022 This is my first pair of Klipsch, so we'll see. I was REALLY hoping for La Scalas, but I can't find any in a reasonable distance for a reasonable price. Hell.......my wife won't complain about the size of these though. I also just "aquired" a Harman-Kardon Citation II, so these will have a mate. Anyone have a Citation I pre they want to sell? Corey

Well........even though these La Scala's didn't happen, I just got some good news from a friend. He has sold his parents home, and is in the process of cleaning it out. He just called and said, "Hey, aren't you into tube hi-fi as well?"(I love it when the conversation starts like that!) "I have my dad's Harman-Kardon Citation I amp that I'll never use.....do you want it?" HELL YA!!!!!!!!! Works out well that he's a bass player, and I own a guitar shop. He'll get some gear he needs, and I get a Citation. Maybe I'll get a pair of Heresy's to use until I find the La Scala's. Corey
