  1. That's funny, because I was thinking the same thing. I bought by Khorns and LaScalas used, my sub and center channel were new, but I too could not afford to buy new Khorns. I too have a Promedia 5.1 for home and the office. Almost everyone at the reunion have old, spiffed up stuff. But I suppose we are good ambassadors. Probably 50-100 people knew I went to the Pilgrimige. I had to arrange for call coverage with the hospital, and everyone wanted to know where I was going. I have told so many people how wonderful the Klipsch stuff is. Intrigiing (sp???) how nice the Klipsch people were to us when they can tell by reading the Forum that most of what we talk about is the old Heritidge stuff.
  2. Carefull now, some of wear white coats to work?!@#$% It looks like the inards of my GE Ultrasound machine to me... Possibly a homemade CT Scanner?
  3. Greetings to the forum. I am new too and have asked my share of "beat to death" questions also. While at the Pilgrimige, I spoke with one of the engineers from Indy. I brought by Khorns with me to Hope. He suggested that I take a piece of MDF and apply it to the back of the base bin around to the level where they meet with the front. He said that this was the way that the 60th anniv. Khorns were being made and that this would make a nice improvement. I too don't have ideal corners in my room. I may try this, should be easy. They apparently have looked thouroughly into this change in design and think that it works good enough to apply to their best speaker. This is just my opinion, and I have not yet tried it myself. Anyone out there tried this themselves or have another idea or opinion? Paul
  4. Amy, did you see my posts about bringin the Bose's to Hope? They were dripping wet with sarcasm, and people did not get them. I actually tried to find the boses to bring and to hook them up after I hooked up my Khorns at the farmhouse, but we recently moved and I couldn't find them in the garage in some old box. It would have been funny to walk them in the listening room with the Jub and ask If I could have the engineers see if they could tweek them to make them sound better. I had my two boys with me though, and would not have wanted them to see the verbal and possible physical onslaught that would have ensued. I'm actually usually pretty good at recognizing the sarcasm in others, I must have been off my game for a minute, oh well.
  5. Ouch!!! I'm always sarcastic in my humor and am always shocked when people don't get it. Here I am not getting another fellow sarcasticologist. Oh well, I'll be on the watch out for your sarcasm Amy.
  6. Oh yeah, the attorney is also the wife. Free up front, costly payments later. Haha. However. she is the one who has bought for me each and every piece of audio gear I have. She is wonderful, beautiful, brilliant, and supportive (she occas. reads these!!!) Me and my sarcasm. Actually, my wife sometimes doesn't get me. I'm also learning that several people on this Forum are extremely liteteral in their interpretations. Also, I'm all for having a simpler, scaled down event. I would have fun just going on a tour, setting up our own gear, paying for our own food, and visiting. I doubt many people would object pitching in for the costs. I obviously don't mind haulin my Khorns up there. This approach would save the staff from all of the back breaking labor involved with this year. Paul
  7. Dtel's wife: I think I heard about the Ho Katrina. I heard she was a real (female dog).
  8. My petition is not a complaint or criticism. It is a semi- humorous attempt to try to arrange future get togethers in Hope Once again, my sarcastic humor is lost in translation. Anyone care to help me triamp my Bose speakers?@!#$%&* The reason I even mention it is that it was mentioned at Hope that there would possibly not be future gatherings in Hope. The goofy petition was my attempt to energize the troops to encourage future events there. So, Amy, obviously we would appreciate anything, but please consider future ones in Hope.
  9. What a wonderful idea. I would love to able to help make the employees understand how much we appreciate an love what they do. I know that when I get a heartfelt thank you that it makes my day. I even post the thank you notes on my bulliten boards at my office next to the pictures of the new babies. When I'm havin a bad day, I will look at them, this alone cheers me up, makes me feel like I'm makin a difference in someones life. Everyone could use this same type of encouragement. I'm sure that there are enough forum members that would love to send an old fashioned, written thank you letter to the employees. If Donna or someone could set up penpal type arrangement and match up willing Forum members with an employee. We could then send them a letter with a personalized story about what their life's work has done for us. i know I have more than one experience that means a lot to me an my family. I would love to personally share that with them. They could then post these letters at the plant. We should include everyone, from the plant manager to the person that sweeps the floors at the end of the day. All above is just my humble and simple opinion, but I think it is a great idea that would lift those people up who are personally responsible for bringin a little bit of wonderful into our lives Paul.
  10. Please refer to my new petition. I too agree that the Pilgrimige was a wonderful event. I was a ton of work on Klipsch. I thing that an annual or semi annual event would be great, even if it involved a scaled down version of this years. We would still have fun getting together, haulin our gear up there. lookin around the plant, talking with the employees, etc, and not have to force Terry and the gang to have to work so much. We could pitch in with the food costs, etc. The main point of the Pilgrimige is to get to meet each other in person, exchange ideas, see the plant, listen to our gear. My main purpose of proposing this is this: My uncle, who got me into Klipschorns when I was 3-4 y/o. is getting older. He bought his Khorns from the plant in 1968 in Hope, got a personal tour from Paul. I would love to able to bring him to a Pilgrimige in the near future. He is too ill to be able to make to Indy, but I could drive him to Hope. This would be an opportunity of a lifetime. I also want to have a chance to see you all again. It would not have to be as labor intensive or costly, and it would still be awesome. So, there you have my longwinded idea. Paul.
  11. I hereby, being of somewhat sound mind and questionably sound body, move that the beforementioned petition be formally ammended.[][] The changes shall consist of the following: A rotational Pilgrimige schedule shall be establised.[] This rotation shall consist of gatherings at both Hope and Indy, as they both have diverse things to offer. This shall also serve to facilitate both geographic needs as well as differing sonic offerings.[8] The Hope Pilgrimige shall be included at least part of the time. We could gather at Hope or Washington Arkansas as proposed by other members of this Forum. The addition of other locations shall be able to be proposed and arranged by other members. Possible selections include but are not limited to: Hawaii, Fiji, Venice, Salzburg, Southern California, NYC, South Padre Island, etc.[au][ip] This contract shall be flexible in the requirements of the setting up of the actual Pilgrimige. This year's was wonderful, but was a ton of work on the folks at Klipsch. It would still be wonderful if the gathering were less labor intesive on personell such as Trey. Essentially, the purpose of this clause is to not make the ammount of labor involved force the Hope portion to be abandoned as a possiblity. Other members of the Forum shall hereby be allowed and encouraged to add comments to this proposal. TRANSLATION: WE HAVE GOT TO DO HOPE AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. IT WAS TOO WONDERFUL TO NOT DO.[] AND JUST REMEMBER: I TOO BELIEVE IN PLACE CALLED HOPE......[] PAUL[ip]
  12. OK, I will seek legal counsel with the aforementioned counselor in regards to the ammendment proposed for the establishment of a rotation of the gathering of people who are obsessed with the accumulation and modulation of aquired vintage and otherwise wonderful listening devises.... But man, the attorney's fees can get pretty steep sometimes, you know how them there lawyer types can be. I'll work on a new on. PS, Dtel's Wife, keep us informed on how the new speakers are comin, and you know that you are goin to have to get pics put up as they become available. Paul.
  13. Welcome to the forum. I was 15 when I got my first system. My uncle gave me his Altec Lansing speakers for my birthday. It was a tragically sweet present. He was killed in a car crash 3 days later when he was hit by a drunk driver. My dad then got me a Harmon Karden amp and tuner. Man, I was in heaven. Later, when CD's came out, I got a CD player. I still have that system and am currently setting it up for my 12 year old's room. I will eventually try to get him some good used Klipsch speakers. One of the reasons that I love Klipsch speakers is that you can get some old ones that still sound wonderful for a little amount of money, get an old but good amp, and blow away most any modern, expensive, system. Good luck on your quest, but be forewarned, it is an addictive quest. Paul
  14. I think a rotation would be great. I would like to get to Indy also some time. My main point was that there be at least another one in Hope sometime in the future, rather than all events being held in Indy. It is very special to see where it all began, meet the folks who actually build the speakers that we all obviously love just a little. I am obviously geographically biased, I can drive to Hope with my Khorns and Kids. However... how far is Southern California from here. It was mentioned that there was a distribution center there. I'm sure there is a Worst Buy there. We could all show up there, bring our big speakers in and hook em up there. Anyway, what I primarily wanted to stress was that I did not want to simple forget about Hope as a place for an event to happen. Having said that, I realize that the people who put it on are from Indy. I do greatly appreciate all of the extremely hard work they put out to make this happen. But... please, please, please, let's do it again sometime in the future. Thanks to all, Paul
  15. OK, so let's have one in Indy every year and one in Hope also, possibly every other year, for those of us in the southlands. Paul
  16. It was mentioned while in Hope that there would probably not be an annual get together in Hope.[] I therefore propose that we start a petition for the following:[] Heretofore I formally propose the following: We shall be gathered together under the large tent in an annual fashion. This coming together shall consist of the audible auditioning of numerous listening devices of the finest type. All new listening devices being developed within factory walls shall be made available for audible consumption. Gastric needs shall also be addressed during the before mentioned event. Participants shall be expected to bring numerous personal listening devices to the event for a shared audible participation experience. [*-)] This event shall take place on an annual basis. Translation ( forgive me, I'm married to an attorney):[] We gotta get together in Hope every year for listening to big ole speakers with tube amps turned up way loud. We will eat a load of fish and BBQ. We wanna see the factory and talk to them smart types that make the cool stuff. We also wanna hear the Jubs again.[8] So, everyone, respond to this, maybe them folks in Indy and Hope will see how interested we are in doing this again, Paul.[]
  17. Ditto on the great sound. Thanks for letting my son help out on building them, he really had fun. He was telling his friends yesterday that we went to a factory, and then he helped build some speakers. His friends were very impressed. Paul.
  18. Thanks for mentioning all of that. On the way to Hope, I told the boys that if they were good that we would stop by the Gander Mountain store in Texarkana on the way home and get them some new fishin poles and gear. They were very good, they usually... are, but sometimes.... So, we got some new fishin stuff yesterday. I also remember a funny story. The boys fell asleep on Friday night while my new upgraded network and tweeter were being installed. On Saturday, we went back out there. Michael, my six year old, went into the Khorn room and listened to a song. When it was over, he yelled out: Wow dad, your big boys sound more awsome than they did before!!!!!!!!!! I thought so too, but it was funny that my six year old could hear a difference. Another story, last night, I was walking in to the kitchen to eat a wonderful Father's Day dinner prepared by my lovely and beautiful wife ( she might read this one!). My 12 y/o, Paul III, was explaining to our other 6 and 5 y/o boys what an amp was, what it did, and how it made the speakers work. I guess they got the bug too. Now, my 12 year old, is on the lookout for a good used pair of Heresy's for his room. If any of you know or hear about any in Texas, let me know. Sure had fun. Paul
  19. Hey, I'm new here too. I have put stuff on other threads about my opinion on upgrades, but... I just had new crossovers and tweeters put into my Khorns over the weekend. The difference was phenominal. Think about doing that. It really is a bargain and the outcome is, WOW. Call BEC, he can give you more info. Welcome from another newbee, Paul
  20. I have a pair of 1988 Khorns. I just got back from the Pilgrimige in Hope. I brought the speakers up ther to listen to them with various equipment. I too got on this forum to ask the same questions. While I was there, I had Michael and Bob Crites place a modified type A passive crossover network and a new set of their Tweeters in them. The difference that it made was amazing. They sounded brand new, much cleaner and much more defined than before. I was a little skeptic at first. I didn't want to have to pay for something that only made a minimal or nonessential difference. I could not be happier with the changes. As you read this forum, you will note that there are a million different types of changes that can be made. But for the money that I spent, which was very reasonable, I feel as though I have brand new speakers. I could never afford new Khorns, but I don't think that the new ones have much on my current ones now. Consider all of the changes. There are several people who make crossovers. I only hear good things about all of them. I doubt you could go wrong with any of them. If they were bad, people on this forum would be grumpin and moanin about it. The folks here seem to be only a little bit opinionated.... Good luck to ya. I'm new to all of this, and can only give you my opinion, but I am thrilled to death with my new changes. Paul
  21. Thanks to all who made this weekend so wonderful. It took a lot for me to be able to get out of town this weekend, and I debated on whether to go or not. I am so glad that I did. My oldest son, 12, said that he wanted to go to. His younger brother, 6, of course, also wanted to go. At first, I was not sure how all of that would work out... Upon our arrival, we were immed. made to feel like part of a family. I am new to this forum, but I instantly felt like I was an old member of the clan. Absolutely everyone, from the people at Klipsch itself, to each and every Forum Member, were so kind and nice to me and my boys. It's hard to go to freakin WalMart and not get condescending looks from people when you got the kids with ya. That didn't happen even once. You all were so nice and fun to be with. Thanks for that. I too am more impressed with Klipsch than I have ever been. Hey Indy Klipsch Fan, you might know, is that company a publicly traded company. The commitment that they all have makes me want to think about buying some of their stock. Any way. I had so much fun. I am about to unload the Khorns and put them back in their rightful spot. Also, thanks to BEC and his son Michael. My speakers have never sounded so good!!! It's like they are brand new. They sound cleaner, like they were covered up with a heavy blanket, and now they are uncovered again. PS, they put in their modified A crossover and their Crites Tweeter. They would not take money for the instillation itself, which was done at 11 pm till midnight in the kitchen of the farmhouse. I have the same setup on the way for my La Scalas in the back, I cant wait for that either. Thanks also to Trey for all of his hard work. Thanks also for bringin your rugrats down, my little critters sure had fun playin with them. You have very well behaved and nice kids, you should be proud of the way you are bringin em up. It shows in them, Happy Fathers to all. Well, I'm sure I'll be typin somethin else up soon. PS, I'm really sorry that I could not bring the Bose's, If I dissappointed any of you I'm sorry. God Bless, Paul
  22. Daddy Dee, Congrats on the speakers. Thanks also for all of your kind advise to the newbee. I just love the new changes to my speakers. Have you hooked the new speakers up yet? I figured the give away was going to be the obligatory tshirt or hat or coffee mug... Nope, it was some new speakers, unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I'm so happy that someone as nice as you and your family were able to win such a nice gift. Once again , I sure enjoyed meeting you, and hope to see you again sometimes. PS, once I hook up my speakers here in my room, I will let you now how they sound. God Bless, Paul
  23. Just got back from Hope... Heard a little story in Hope... A family had a set of Klipsch speakers set up for surround sound. A family member of theirs went thru some hard times. Being the generous type, this family gave the members of their family their own speakers, wanting them to have something to enjoy in the midst of their hard times. This must have been a difficult thing. My wife asked me if I would give my speakers to her sister in a hard time. Wow, I thought about it... I would hope I could, but I probably would have given them money instead, as everyone here can understand the unnatural and unreasonable emotional attachment that we all get in regards to all things Klipsch.... That's another issure that phychologists all over would love to do a study on.... Anyway, this special family gave to someone in need, leaving themselves without. Several years have passed in this here tale, and one late night, in the very hot and humid woods of Arkansas, a bunch of goofy audio nuts were gathered up under a tent. A drawing was announced. I thought cool, maybe I could win a hat. (SINCE THERE IS NO GIFT SHOP IN HOPE) HINT, HINT, HINT.... The first gift was a pair of current speakers to Daddy Dee. WOW, now that's a drawing. Congrats to him by the way... Another drawin comes up, I think, now here comes the hat and t shirt. NOPE IN HOPE.... THEY GAVE AWAY CORNWALLS!!!!! A big twinge of jeolosy rushed thru the tent. I know I thought, man I wish I could have won those suckers. I went to congradulate the teary eyed winner, where I heard of a tale of selfless generocity many years ago... You know, I figure God, sittin up in heaven, has him a big ole checklist, and somewhere on that list is a story of five speakers goin to someone who really needed them. I bet He made a note of that. Last night, He must of finished fillin out his list, and put another check in the column under: Good Deeds Not Unnoticed. Right about that time, I decided that I would not have been happier if I had won them myself. That give of generocity so long ago was finally repaid, not only repaid, but upgraded!!!! I'm so happy for you guys, and I hope that every time you listen to those big boys, you remember in your heart that What Comes Around Goes Around, and that ain't only for bad stuff either... Congrats, Paul.
