  1. Dodge Challenger's one. Man's last stand, now in the lead. Just replace it with like some big ole Klipsch speakers, and it would be perfect!
  2. Doritos firmly in the lead! Keep your hands off my mama and my Doritos!
  3. Wow. I would have thought a train would be too heavy!
  4. While I was there, I had to tell 2 women that they were too sick to do surgery on. They would have never survived surgery. Both of them, with tears rolling down their faces, took my hand. They said: Thank you for coming to help our people. They knew that they would be dying soon. They did not complain. Or ask why I could not fix them. They were simply grateful. That is a strength that I have a hard time understanding really. Amazing really...
  5. As crazy as this may sound... I am already missing Haiti. The people are simply so wonderful. Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. Paul
  6. I also want to publicly thank Continental airlines. We were supposed to fly Delta, but the flight was cancelled at the last minute. So Continental squeezed us in. We rolled up with 19 big plastic containers of supplies, IV bags, food, water, diapers, etc. Gate agent looks at us. That is too much luggage. Well, yes, very true. It was supposed to be about 200 per extra box. Supervisor comes out. We tell her where we are going. She waives all the charges. So thank you Continental! We were able to take care of so many people and basically restock a small hospital on the small island with everything we brought.
  7. Just made it home! Was at the Haiti airport, going to take a military plane to somewhere, then make my way back here.... And a private jet pulls up. It's owner is from Waco Texas. Man who started Curves work out places. I kind of know him here in town. He is the owner of this jet, flies it too. So, me and 4 others on my team get a ride on his Citation all the way back to Waco! Even let me sit in the copilot seat for the final stretch! So what a wonder surprise that was! He has been flying doctors and supplies down there. The rest of the trip was very productive and wonderful. All of the surgeries went great in spite of the conditions. I am going to try to go back to this same island off Haiti in the next year to do some more cases actually. The people there are so great. Treated us like we were royalty. The media is of course, being the media... No huge riots all over. One area we were working in did have a rush on a food truck. So the soldiers fired in the air, and the rush was stopped. But, other than a ton of desperate and starving people, it is not just one big riot there. Some of our team got some food poisoning. I have avoided it so far. Hope it stays that way! I will have to load up some pics and things once I recover and rest. Back to the 'real' world tmrw! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. The trip was absolutely divinely blessed. I left feeling more blessed by the wonderful Haitian people than I feel like I helped them. And BTW, the antibiotics that were donated... Totally used and needed. Thank you again... Paul
  8. Hello all. I am on an island off the coast of Haiti now. We were brought by boat here today. No doctors have been able to get out here till now. Have been working in the 'tent cities' till now. Actually delivered a baby on the ground yesterday! He was not breathing at first, but after we worked on him a bit, he came around nicely! Tomorrow, I will be doing 7-8 surgeries at least. I will be working in a tiny hospital, part of which fell down during the quake. Thank God, the OR did not fall down. It is like stepping back in time. Way way back.... But, will make the best of it. People have started to flood over seeking surgery. So, should be a great day tomorrow! The destruction here is like it is on the news. Unbelievable horrible. Everyone you talk to has lost at least someone. Many have lost numerous people. But they are picking themselves up and going on. The Haitians are an unbelievably tough people. Amazing. We are staying with some missionaries here on the island who have a satelite internet setup and generator. So I was finally able to reach the 'outside' world for a short time! .So, it looks like we are going to be piggybacking a ride on a military plane on Sunday back to somewhere in the States. Then make our way back to Texas from there. It has so far been a wonderful trip. The destruction is terrible, but feel safe. The people are so amazingly grateful. Almost embarrassingly so! So, keep us all in your prayers. And, I have already used the Antibiotics that were gifted! The number of infections from the damage here is just non stop. Have given out thousands of doses so far. Take care, Paul
  9. We leave in an hour. Please keep our team in your prayers. I really appreciate that. Paul
  10. We were in NOLA several weeks ago. I have never seen a town with more excitement and pride in their team. Literally over 1/2 of the cars there have huge stickers or flags supporting the Saints!
  11. I saw that too! Lucky to have access to hydration!
  12. Spent today gathering supplies. We have filled 20 large plastic crates with surgical supplies, dressing materials, IV's, and medicines. We hope and pray that Delta Airlines gives us leniency when it comes the amount and weight of what we are bringing. And I hope they don't get upset that I mention this: A very well respected friend here on the forums and his son, whom we all know... They emailed me, asking if I could do something for them. They wanted to help. So, they helped buy some of the antibiotics that I am taking to Haiti. Their money bought about 4000 doses of antibiotics. I was able to find a great pharmacist who sold them to me at his cost. I don't want to embarrass them at all, but I want them to know just how much it is appreciated. I will be taking some pictures of some of the people who those go to. Thank you once again Bob and Michael. They along with others also offered to pray for me and the people there. Please continue to do so....
  13. http://www.kyte.tv/ch/329916-adamhousley/757733-help-haiti-orphans This is a video on Fox News about the team that I am replacing on Monday. My friend, Nick, a fellow doctor here in Waco, is seen in a red shirt setting a fracture on one the orphans. Please take a moment to pray for these precious souls. And all of the others suffering so in Haiti.
  14. dtel, at this point, all the doctors are doing a bit of everything. Orthopedists delivering babies. Obstetricians doing amputations right now. Things I would not have malpractice coverage for here. But right now, people are dying. There are not all types of specialists in all areas yet. That would certainly be ideal. So, we will do what we have to at this point. In this circumstance, in a country that has no functioning government or infrastructure, licensing issues are not important. They simply want help right now. I have a colorectal/ general surgeon, and an emergency doctor on my team going. So hopefully we can cover most issues as they come up!
  15. Ok! I got a call that I will be heading out on Monday. Flying most likely on someones private plane down to Haiti. Am very happy that transportation finally worked out. Several other doctors and some nurses are going too. Hoping there is room on plane to bring some supplies too! Paul
  16. I may have found a way! A church here in Waco does a lot of mission work around the world. They are trying to assemble a team that may be able to leave on Monday. It is not all the way certain, but looking possible. There is a possiblity that Ross Perot is going to let us use his jet to get us and supplies down there! Thank God for gererous billionaires. This would allow us to fly directly into Haiti, rather than thru the Domican Republic and then over land, which can take a very long time! So, keep me in your prayers that this will work out as planned. Paul
  17. That is a beautiful church. I wonder when the last time in recent history, that a church that intricate and beautiful, has been built? Are there people around who have those skills anymore? Paul
  18. http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/world/2010/1/14/34483/Cuba-sends-more-doctors-to-Haiti
  19. Just to play devil's advocate here. I am certainly not a Castro fan by any means... But, Cuba essentially has for years supplied almost all of the doctors in Haiti. They have a contract to do this. There are something like 500 doctors I believe I read in Haiti. And almost all are from Cuba. Now, they are paid to be there. Can't be much I would imagine. And I should imagine that Cuban doctors in Cuba don't make much either. Cuba was one of the first to send more doctors over there right after the quake hit. I found that very interesting. Like I said, I am not a sympathizer of the communist government in Cuba by any means. But, I did find it interesting. Paul
