what is the temp mark? california cold down here…headed out this morning and was in the 40s

our safety monitor (Oldtimer) beat me to the punch…take his advice, he’s right.

Floor drain? Plan foiled again. Guess I use a mop, rather, scrub brush. And 4 or 5 of the 20 different cleaners my wife has stashed under the kitchen sink. Cover me . . . I am going in. "Incoming!" don’t mix chemicals … that can be toxic to breathe. One cleaner is enough.

-27 windchill once in Michigan; and similar temps one day we were on Lake Michigan off Green Bay. We were on our way to help out a smaller Coast Guard ice-breaker that was capsizing from the ice. Crew had already abandoned ship--all survived. Funny, it was in the 40s this morning and i was freezing--i wouldn’t have been wearing more than a light coat back in those days.

well, i had already resolved to “do” more things in 2015; but, the doctor just gave me another one this morning. Sunday noticed some numbing in both legs around the knee. seems that there is some swelling in lower back that is the cause. Starting Prednisone today in hopes the swelling goes away because the doctor said “it’s a huge surgery…we’d have to cut open your back.” i told him surgery was out of the question anyway. So, i resolve to stop thinking I’m 21 (i'm really more than double that) and start doing the common sense stuff like proper posture and appropriate excersises to improve the health of my back. Physicals have always been fantastic and i very rarely get sick; but, 2014 was my least physically active year in awhile and weighed in this morning at 198 (that’s up from around 180 (two years ago). I’m just at the age where i have to take things a bit more seriously in this regard.

that’s why you have to be proactive … last year i showed my granddaughter (7 at the time) the Men Without Hats video for their song Safety Dance. She still remembers that and whenever I see her we do those hand gestures from that video. try it … it works.

when i said toes, what i meant were the bloody stumps remaining from having our toes sliced off with a butter knife.

Privileged? This is the first pair of shoes i’ve ever owned…we used to have to walk barefoot 5 miles to school, up hill BOTH WAYS, over hot coals and broken glass, just to have the principal stomp on our toes with army boots if we answered a question incorrectly.

purple barrel acid is what i took on the way to the airport…shrooms didn’t always make me sick to my stomach; but, it sure did that one time (after I’d came down). I’ve heard that upset stomach is common though--plus it probably depends on how much you take too.

we can laugh about it now; but, how stupid…back in my military days on the boat, red lights at night for vision reasons…shipmate had the top rack and i could see his silhouette and the red light behind him…looked like he was on fire. I lay there in my rack and thought, “oh man, he’s on fire…that must suck.” Thank God it was only my distorted imagination. But still more believable than my other shipmate who puked all over the floor and tried to get out cleaning up his mess by trying to convince us that someone came into the berthing area in the middle of the night and started throwing slices of pizza.
