  1. Moray do you have any visuals showing your foam mod? I'm having trouble imagining it. And where do you find this specific foam? I may also try out your washer mod too, sounds easy enough. Bass hasn't really changed that I can tell since putting them up on the stands. I was hoping the heft of the stands might help keep that from happening. The "harshness", if that's the word I'm looking for, was there when they were on the stock risers. I have the bass turned up a bit and the treble slightly down some. Really haven't had time to listen much since I finished the stands. It's not so much a problem on a quite song or something like Nora Jones, but when you get something faster moving your ears start to fatigue pretty quickly.
  2. Thanks. I have the Crite's ti tweeter diaphragms and his crossovers. Stock mids. I've thought about titanium for those but hesitant. I already find they can be a bit harsh and worried they might get worse.
  3. I finally got around to building myself some stands for my Forte II's after being inspired by some I've seen here. Built them completely out of scrap from my kitchen build I have been working on the last year or so. 3/4 cabinet grade MDF for the box, poplar for the "legs". Glued and pocket screwed. I cut a hole and filled them with sand before screwing down the top. Sprayed two layers of a lacquer undercoater and one flat black oil based paint. They weigh almost 100 lbs with the sand in there. They really get the midrange up to ear level now. I'm pretty happy with them.

    Cornwall Pricing

The red directional "UP" arrows on the back indicate they are verticals. Gotcha. Thanks!

    Cornwall Pricing

Are you familiar with the ad or just guessing the are verticals? I can email the owner for more info but wanted to get a sense of price first. I know my brother won't be spending $1,500 on anything. Maybe $800. I've also been on the lookout for Corus II's for him. The cornwalls are on my route to his house which we are going to visit this weekend. These will be going in his basement which is very open. Not for critical listening, more for his kids to watch movies and us to play when partying. He has Heresy II's upstairs.

    Cornwall Pricing

Been on the lookout for some speakers for my brothers new home. Ran across some Cornwalls on Craigslist but I'm thinking they are overpriced. They claim to be 1966 Cornwall II. They are asking $1,500. Were CW IIs around in 66? I don't think id pay more than $1,000 for a pristine pair of CWs. Thoughts? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  8. So what are you using amp wise for you're 2 channel setup? I must have missed it? Didn't you have some tubes?
  9. Hey I just tried to buy something from you
  10. Unless you need the space for something else, I'd keep your dedicated listening room. And you don't have to have a bunch of stuff and money into it. I've got less than $700 into my 2 channel system and could be happy with that the rest of my life. Not that I don't want to upgrade, I do, but I look at my system more like a tool than "stuff" I own. It's more of an event. I grab a good beer, sit down with some good music and relax. It's very therapeutic. Now if your living room system can do that for you by all means, thin the herd. It's whatever you make of it really. If it's your passion then pursue it, but like any passion, don't let it get the better of you. If you do decide to continue on, look at going fully horn loaded. I've only heard all horns once, a pair of LaScalas in a store for about 20 seconds, and was sold. It's a whole different experience in my opinion.
  11. Mac mini all the way. Small package, affordable, easy to use, etc. Our server at work runs on one, zero problems. I'm a designer so have always worked and played on macs, it's the way to go. At least in this case. I'm actually looking for one myself to use as a music server. You can hook up external hard drives for tons of storage too.
  12. I have Heresy I's and Forte II's. The Cornwalls will sound like a bigger version of your Heresys with much more base. The Forte II or Corus II will sound quite different. The mid horn is much better IMO. You'll hear much more life-like music, better soundstage, etc. My understanding is the Corus has a "bigger" sound than the Forte. I've also owned the Forte I's and like the II's much better. Depends on what you're going for. You could also get a really good sub to go with your Heresys and that may do it for you. I'm not sure power wise what will match up best with your Fisher. Forte and Corus probably like a bit more power than Heresy and Cornwall. But I'm just guessing. I'm pushing my Fortes with an HK430 with 25wpc. I never turn the nob much more than a quarter of the way but I've heard people say more power brings the Fortes more to life.
  13. This was my thought. What's the use of expensive fancy cables if as soon as you connect to the speaker you go straight to plain ole copper? Unless you rewire the speaker itself I don't see how it would help.
  14. I've read the article on having them cross in front of you and have tried it with my Forte IIs. It does widen the sweet spot quite a bit for offset listening. If I had the khorns at 45 though, it would be WAY in front of me. If I ever got some I'd probably try them both ways. Max that's a sweet looking listening room you got there. I've seen it before. The thing about the Khorns to me is the WAF. They look like vintage pieces of furniture and being in the corners don't take up that much space. I think she'd be OK with them Jubs with 402.... never. I'd have to have a man cave for that and I really don't blame her.
  15. Let me try to explain better. First I don't have khorns, just would love a pair. Problem is I never figured my room would support them. My question is, if I had a pair and I inclosed the backs, would I be able to toe them out instead of putting them at 45 degrees? See the image below that shows my room and how they would face IF I had them and if they were at 45% in the corners. I think the sweet spot would be way to far in front of me no????
  16. I guess what I'm getting at is say they are still in the corners with 4 feet on each side, they are just not "tucked in" tight to the wall at 45 degrees. That may be what you're saying, I just want to be clear since I don't always type what I'm thinking very well. Thanks!
  17. I know they were designed for corners, but the inclosed backs we're not part of the original design. Didn't know if this was done to allow a looser fit and toe-in. From some of the talk on this forum I kind of got that impression. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Does inclosing the back allow you to move the toe-in outside of a 45 degree angle in the corners? I've always wanted khorns but 45 would not work in my room. The listening positions is way to far back for that. They would need to be toed out quite a bit.
  19. I figured they were rough. But if he doesn't know what's in them it's probably not worth it. I'd just assume build some from scratch. Thanks all. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. Isn't the k400 the horn in the La Scala? The point here would be to upgrade to something more like a 510. Wouldn't this basically be a Jub Scala? Since these are only the base bins you could build a top to house the 510. The K402 would be too big for my room. Of course I really don't know what I'm talking about. I have limited space and have dreamed of building a fully horn loaded system. Probably a horn sub in the future if I went this route. From what I've read here, the 510 and 402 are better than the old 400.
  21. I just ran across these on Craigslist and my brother is passing through there this weekend. He offered to pick them up for me if I wanted. Got me thinking what it would cost to put a 510 on top and get them up and running. Anyone have any ideas? I figure you'd need a custom crossover, etc. I know nothing on the horn and driver pricing though. Might make a cool project....

I'm not really even in the market for a sub, but it's close by and he wants $150 or best offer. And never having one for movies, might be nice to add to the experience.

It really would be mostly for movies, I've never had a sub actually. I tend to listen to 2 channel at lower volumes to not wake the kids and wife, thought maybe it would add to that.

What would the amp issue be? Totally blown or something I'd have to listen for?
